Max Level Return—I'll Protect That Fragile One
Chapter 590 - 219: Journey to the Divine Martial Realm
At noon, Old Madam Ying hosted a banquet with all the elderly members of the Ying Family to entertain Ying Jing, showering her with compliments throughout the meal.
After the meal, Old Madam Ying brought out the treasures she had prepared in advance and gave them to Ying Jing. Among them was a piece of deep sea natural red coral shaped like a peach, the very gift Huo Wen’an gave her on behalf of the Huo Family during her ninetieth birthday celebration last year.
Ying Jing gazed at the natural red coral with a smile.
Natural deep sea red coral isn’t considered a rare or precious item; what is rare is its growth into the shape of a peach. In the Divine Martial Realm, Pan Rui also has auspicious connotations of blessings and longevity.
It’s a coincidence that the Family Head of the Ying Family is about to celebrate a birthday; if she could present this deep sea peach to the Family Head, she might curry favor and become more recognizable.
With satisfaction in her heart, Ying Jing’s smile became more pronounced. "Old Madam, what’s the meaning of this?"
Since the Ying Family’s Old Master passed away 25 years ago, Old Madam Ying has interacted with several envoys as the family matriarch. Counting Ying Jing, she is the third envoy she has received.
If gift-giving is what’s involved, naturally one must cater to the recipient’s interests. She knows that the esteemed Family Head of the Ying Family in the Divine Martial Realm is about to have a birthday, and she could discern that Ying Jing is a relatively low-status figure in the Ying Family.
Yet even if she’s only a small fry, she’s not someone to offend.
After considering, nothing seemed more fitting to give Ying Jing than this deep sea peach.
"Envoy Ying Jing has traveled from afar, you are an honored guest. As the host, I could not let you leave empty-handed. These are just some trifles, a small token of my regard. Envoy Ying Jing, please accept them, and when you return, you may display them at home as decor. When you recall this later, it serves as a memento of our acquaintance."
Old Madam Ying spoke eloquently, and upon hearing her words, Ying Jing smiled wider. "As Old Madam has stated, I will accept them." Ying Jing placed them into her storage bag.
Her storage bag was only palm-sized, appearing like a brocade pouch, but it could contain all the items Old Madam Ying had given. In the Divine Martial Realm, some super power users who have awakened their ability to manipulate space design storage devices for sale.
The storage bag Ying Jing used is one of the cheapest and most common types.
"Envoy Ying Jing, as you have seen, the youngest winner of this year’s Hundred Medicines Conference is a child named Ying Huai, he’s only ten, certainly very young. This child has good talent, and I think keeping him in the Mortal World to study would be a waste; hence, I’ve decided to send him to the main family for learning."
"Envoy Ying Jing, Ying Huai is still a child. Once he reaches the Divine Martial Realm, he will be alone and helpless, requiring some care and attention from Envoy Ying Jing."
Since Ying Jing received Old Madam Ying’s gifts, she would naturally agree to such a small request. "Old Madam, rest assured. Since Ying Huai has talent, when he arrives at our Ying Family, naturally he will be paid attention to."
"At our Ying Family, we regard children’s talent and character above all else."
Seeing Ying Jing agree, Old Madam Ying relievedly smiled, "Then I thank Envoy Ying Jing in advance."
"Hmm." Ying Jing looked at the time and said, "Time is almost upon us, we should embark on our return journey."
"I respectfully see off the envoy."
*
At dusk, the setting sun was like blood.
Ying Jing arrived under the Medicine King Tower, where Xu Xingguang, Ying Huai, and Ying Zhongmei had been waiting.
Her gaze swiftly swept across the three of them, not spotting the mysterious man who had stolen her pass; Ying Jing narrowed her eyes and asked them, "Is everyone here?"
Ying Zhongmei and Ying Huai both furrowed their brows.
Victors were only the three of them; besides them, could anyone else qualify to proceed to the Divine Martial Realm?
Seeing them remain silent, Ying Jing felt a sense of curiosity.
Someone had sneaked into her bedroom at midnight and stolen her pass; could it be they suddenly decided not to go to the Divine Martial Realm?
"Time’s up." Ying Jing nodded to the elders standing at the base of the tower, "The time has come, please open the tower door."
An elder of the Ying Family, over eighty years old, opened the tower door.
Two younger men then jointly pulled the heavy doors open outward; Ying Huai and Ying Zhongmei stood on tiptoe, curiously peering inside, but saw nothing.
Inside, it was pitch-black and eerie.
Ying Jing glanced behind them, coldly smiled, and handed Xu Xingguang and the others a rope. "Hold onto the rope, follow me into the tower, don’t get lost."
