Maybe I really am a Villian
Chapter 271: Worth
Eldric didn’t say anything for a moment, and then he replied, his tone calm,
"I see. Then I wouldn’t do anything in this war as long as you don’t do anything to me and my people."
Asher simply nodded without saying anything while continuing to sip his juice.
Then, after a short pause, he said,
"By the way, what about this identity of mine? Does anyone else know about it, or have you told anyone about it?"
Eldric replied, his tone flat,
"No one knows. Does it even matter if they know about this? You will leave behind this identity anyway."
Asher shrugged casually.
"Yeah, you are right. Well, keep it as it is, then. This place is good for fun, and it is also peaceful."
Eldric remained silent for a moment, creating an awkward silence between them.
Neither of them said anything for a few seconds.
Then Eldric finally broke the silence and asked, his tone curious,
"I heard you went out to have fun with those kids. You seem to be quite close to them. Don’t you even feel a little hesitation knowing that, because of what you are planning, they could die along with many other innocent people?"
Asher didn’t immediately respond.
Eldric paused for a moment before continuing, his voice becoming somewhat solemn.
"I don’t know what type of life you have lived or what you really are, other than the fact that you are much older than you seem, and this is not your first life."
Asher raised an eyebrow at this statement.
He looked at Eldric for a moment before saying in a slightly surprised tone,
"So that Lizard didn’t tell you everything about my past lives."
He paused for a moment, seemingly thinking about it, and then continued,
"That’s good, I guess. It wouldn’t really help you to know that much about me anyway."
Eldric didn’t say anything after hearing that.
However, he was now genuinely curious about Asher’s past lives.
After all, who wouldn’t want to hear about the life of someone who had lived in a completely different world—one that Eldric had never seen and could probably never even imagine?
And especially when that person was still alive and sitting right in front of him.
There were countless questions in Eldric’s mind, but he kept his curiosity to himself.
If the Dragon hadn’t told him about Asher’s past lives, then there must have been a reason for it.
Eldric had known the Dragon for long enough to understand that he didn’t keep information hidden without a purpose.
So, for now, Eldric decided not to ask any further questions.
And then Asher said, his tone calm,
"Yeah, they might die after this, or they might survive. It will depend on their luck and strength. And yeah, I don’t really care if they die or live. To me, everyone is the same. Everything that can die will eventually die someday, depending on their luck and strength."
Eldric listened to this, his face still calm.
However, there was a hint of disgust and anger in his voice, though it was almost negligible, when he finally said,
"I was wrong. You are even more heartless than I thought."
Asher looked at Eldric for a moment.
Then a smile slowly formed on his lips.
He seemed somewhat amused by Eldric’s reaction before saying,
"Really? No matter how much I live, humans are still the most complex creatures."
Asher paused for a moment, and his expression slowly became more serious.
"So, well then, let me give you an offer."
Eldric remained silent, listening carefully.
"Make everyone above Grandmaster Rank disappear, and I promise you that I will achieve everything I want without even a single being dying. None of them will die during everything I do."
Asher looked directly at Eldric before continuing,
"What do you think about this?"
His tone became amused again, as if he already knew what kind of answer he was going to receive.
Eldric didn’t reply.
Asher looked at him for a moment before simply scoffing.
"Don’t tell me your self-made righteousness. Don’t forget that I also have Beast Vessels, so my way of thinking isn’t like you humans."
He paused briefly before continuing.
"For you, other species might simply be food. But for me, everyone is the same."
Asher’s expression remained calm.
"And well, if I want, I could maybe actually save them. But I won’t. They aren’t important enough to be worth my attention."
Eldric simply listened to him.
He didn’t say anything, because there was nothing he could really say to argue with someone whose entire concept of thinking about other beings was so strange.
It was almost as if the man sitting in front of him viewed the world through a completely different set of values.
Eldric couldn’t understand whether Asher genuinely believed everything he was saying or whether he simply viewed life and death differently because of the countless lives he had already lived.
Either way, there was little point in arguing with him about it.
So Eldric didn’t say anything about that.
Instead, he asked the question he was actually curious about.
"Who is the other one who is manipulating things from outside the world? What connection do you have with him?"
Asher looked at Eldric and raised an eyebrow.
For a moment, he remained silent, as if considering whether he should answer the question at all.
Then he said,
"About that guy, that is really a long story. But if you want to know who he is, he is just a stupid guy who is only after me to take his so-called revenge because I killed his family or friends. Even though his revenge doesn’t really matter much, he is just stubborn and refuses to let it go."
And then Asher looked at Eldric for a moment before saying,
"So, you are free from his influence, I guess. Since you heard this much, well, that’s good enough for now, I guess. I should head back now. It’s dinner time right now, after all."
With that, Asher turned around and casually began walking toward the door.
