Mo Yuxin looked at her.

"You want to."

"Maybe."

"Then we help."

They stepped off the road and entered the forest.

The fight was larger than expected.

A merchant caravan of about thirty people had been attacked by a pack of Stoneback Boars. The demonic beasts were huge, each one with a thick stone plate growing along its spine. There were more than forty of them, and the weakest was at the third stage. Their leader was a fifth-stage beast with a horn that looked like black jade.

The caravan guards had formed a defensive ring around the wagons.

Several cultivators were wounded.

A woman in purple robes stood at the front, holding a long spear.

"Protect the herb wagon!"

She shouted.

The Stoneback Boar charged.

The woman thrust her spear.

A bright spiritual beam shot forward and struck the beast’s head.

The fifth-stage boar staggered.

The woman was knocked backward by the recoil.

Three ordinary guards rushed forward to catch her.

Then another boar charged.

Mo Yuxin stepped between them.

She did not use a sword.

She did not release spiritual pressure.

She simply raised her palm.

The giant boar stopped a finger’s width from her hand.

Its hooves scraped the ground.

It tried to push forward.

It could not.

Mo Yuxin stared at it.

"Go away."

The boar blinked.

Su Yubing stood behind her and whispered, "You are talking to it like a dog."

"It looks like it will listen."

The boar snorted.

Mo Yuxin moved her hand slightly.

A harmless wave of force sent the boar backward into the dirt.

The rest of the herd stopped.

The fifth-stage leader looked at Mo Yuxin.

Mo Yuxin looked back.

For a few breaths, neither moved.

Then the boar lowered its head.

The other beasts followed.

The entire herd turned around and disappeared into the trees.

The caravan was silent.

A young guard stared at Mo Yuxin as though he had just watched a mountain move.

The woman in purple climbed to her feet.

"Senior, thank you."

Mo Yuxin shook her head.

"It is fine."

The woman looked toward the retreating beasts.

"You defeated a fifth-stage Stoneback King without using any weapon."

"Did I?"

Su Yubing laughed.

"She did."

The woman bowed.

"My name is Qin Lian. I am the head escort of the White River Merchant Caravan. We are traveling to Thousand Dao City."

Mo Yuxin raised an eyebrow.

"So are we."

Qin Lian’s eyes lit up.

"Then our paths are the same. Would you like to travel with us?"

Mo Yuxin looked at Su Yubing.

Su Yubing looked at the caravan.

"It might be more comfortable than walking."

Mo Yuxin nodded.

"Fine."

Qin Lian immediately smiled.

"Thank you, seniors."

Mo Yuxin corrected her.

"Do not call me senior. It makes me feel old."

Qin Lian hesitated.

"Then... fellow cultivator?"

"Better."

The caravan resumed its journey.

It turned out to be less boring than Mo Yuxin had expected.

There were twelve wagons, six spirit beasts pulling them, and twenty-eight merchants and guards. The main cargo was a batch of medicinal herbs grown in the White River region. Some were common healing plants, while others were rare herbs that could be used in pills for Core Formation and Nascent Soul cultivators.

Qin Lian explained that the merchant caravan had been traveling toward Thousand Dao City for almost two months.

Su Yubing looked surprised.

"Two months?"

Qin Lian laughed.

"Yes. We cannot travel as fast as you two. We have to stop in towns, negotiate road fees, avoid beast territories, and sometimes wait for weather. Also, the central roads are crowded."

Mo Yuxin nodded.

That was one of the things she liked about traveling slowly.

Cultivators often believed speed was everything.

They rushed from one secret realm to another, chased opportunities, fought for resources, and treated every journey as a race toward some higher realm.

Mo Yuxin had no interest in that.

She had spent enough of her life chasing power.

Now she wanted to walk beside her wife and see what was on the other side of the mountain.

At sunset, the caravan stopped near a stream.

The guards prepared a fire.

The merchants started cooking.

Su Yubing sat beside the fire with a wooden bowl of soup.

Mo Yuxin sat beside her.

She had been staring at the soup for several minutes.

Su Yubing noticed.

"What?"

"It smells good."

"Do you want some?"

"Yes."

Su Yubing lifted her spoon.

Mo Yuxin leaned forward.

The surrounding merchants looked over.

Su Yubing quietly fed her.

Mo Yuxin smiled.

Qin Lian watched them, then looked away.

One of the younger guards whispered, "Are they always like this?"

Qin Lian answered, "Apparently."

Another guard said, "I thought powerful cultivators were supposed to be cold and distant."

Qin Lian looked at Mo Yuxin, who was currently trying to convince Su Yubing to eat more meat because she thought her wife had eaten too little.

"Apparently not all of them."

After dinner, Mo Yuxin and Su Yubing walked toward the stream.

The moon was bright.

The water reflected the stars.

Mo Yuxin sat on a flat stone.

Su Yubing sat beside her.

Mo Yuxin rested her head against her wife’s shoulder.

Su Yubing smiled.

"You are tired?"

"No."

"Then why are you leaning on me?"

"Because I like this."

Su Yubing gently ran her fingers through Mo Yuxin’s hair.

"You really like being pampered."

"Only by you."

"What if I stop?"

Mo Yuxin immediately lifted her head.

"Why would you do that?"

Su Yubing laughed.

"I was joking."

Mo Yuxin narrowed her eyes.

"Do not joke about serious things."

"Serious things?"

"You not pampering me is serious."

Su Yubing smiled and leaned closer.

"Come here."

Mo Yuxin immediately moved closer.

Su Yubing kissed her forehead.

"Better?"

"Much."

They stayed there until the camp grew quiet.

The following morning, the caravan encountered its first real problem.

A bridge ahead had collapsed.

The bridge crossed a canyon that was nearly two hundred meters deep, and the river below was filled with spiritual mist.
