Mercenaries, I Will Be King
Chapter 599 - 543: The Attack of the Los Zetas Organization
"Boss, they are coming, only 3 kilometers away."
In the forests on the hillside beside the road north of the Madre Mountains, a Los Zetas member leaned over to Lascano and reported quietly.
"Expected to enter the ambush zone within five minutes."
Lascano's brows furrowed, but he made no response.
Unable to restrain himself, the subordinate said, "Boss, they are about to enter the ambush zone, should we..."
Lascano felt somewhat conflicted.
His methods in past operations had been thunderous; this time, however, he hesitated as he approached the crucial moment, unable to explain why even to himself.
The Ten Million Dollars was secondary.
For this operation, the elite of Los Zetas had all been deployed.
Just counting the elites with codes starting from Z3 to Z15, along with some newly recruited elite members, they were all positioned within this three hundred meter stretch of road inside the ambush zone.
With just one command, a fierce battle would erupt in five minutes.
Song Heping had just left the airport when their informants had already sent back information — 10 armored vehicles, accompanied by Shorty's most capable enforcer, Santini, along with Song Heping and several of his core subordinates, were all in the vehicles.
It could be said that Song Heping's entire Mexican crew had assembled.
If the operation succeeded, Shorty would fundamentally lose his most crucial support.
It would also be a heavy blow to the CIA.
The Balrot Organization, now taken over, was estimated to be supported for at least three more months due to the outcome of this operation.
These three months were enough for a lot to happen.
The four major families could use this period to launch a comprehensive encirclement against the Sinoloa, forcing Shorty to surrender, and his own boss, Sanchez, was likely to get the biggest piece of the pie during this process.
And his own Los Zetas Organization could also seek to claim greater power by taking advantage of the situation, strengthening itself in the process.
From any perspective, it was a high-stakes gamble for him.
If he won, he'd switch from a bicycle to a motorcycle.
Over the years, Los Zetas had been aiming to gradually free themselves from the Gulf Group.
This had been the ambition of his once close brother and superior, the first generation Z1, Arturo.
To control the Los Zetas Organization, the Gulf Group would always plant a crucial person in the leadership, akin to a director.
He could oversee all actions and revenues of the Los Zetas Organization, which had been a consistent practice since the establishment of the organization by the Gulf Group, given its fierce nature; well controlled, it was a sharp knife at their disposal, but if it rebelled, it could bite back.
If the mission succeeded this time, when the four families joined forces to redistribute Shorty's territory, Lascano planned to ask Sanchez for a new territory, one where he could develop independently away from Gulf Group's control.
After all, not all of Shorty's men would submit to the Gulf Group; there would definitely be resistance, and by using the pretext of suppression, he could definitely secure his own sphere of influence.
"Tell them, as soon as the convoy enters, initiate the attack immediately, follow the plan we discussed earlier."
"Okay."
"Tell everyone, don't let anyone escape."
Lascano raised his hand and made a throat-slitting gesture.
"Understood."
"Rocket launchers on alert, once you see the convoy, fire rockets at the fourth armored vehicle, that's the primary target!"
"Understood."
Rocket launchers positioned in the middle and front sections of the ambush zone immediately responded.
To ensure a hit.
Lascano had arranged three teams of rocket launchers this time.
Located at the beginning, middle, and end of the ambush stretch.
When the lead vehicle of the convoy entered the middle section, the rocket launchers there would fire first at the fourth armored vehicle.
Three rockets fired simultaneously, ensuring at least one would hit.
No matter how impressive the armored vehicle was, it was still just a modified vehicle, powerless against anti-tank rockets.
Just one hit would be enough.
According to the informants, Song Heping was in the fourth vehicle.
If Song Heping's vehicle was hit and exploded, the entire operation would already be half accomplished.
Other personnel were just minor details, not a real threat.
As a former Army Special Forces officer, Lascano operated under the principle of expecting the most from the enemy; if the middle group of rocket launchers failed to hit car number 4, the convoy would definitely continue to charge forward trying to break through the ambush zone.
At this moment, the rocket launcher team positioned at the rear would provide backup and launch a second attack on car number 4.
These rocket launchers were manned by members who were best skilled in weaponry; two rounds of fierce attacks, and Song Heping wouldn't survive.
Once car number 4 was attacked, the group at the front end of the ambush zone would fire rockets at the rear vehicle of the convoy, destroying it and blocking the highway, cutting off Song Heping and his group's escape route.
As long as the convoy is forced to stop on the highway, we will have the advantage in terms of both numbers and terrain, and what follows will surely be a battle of annihilation.
This tactic has been used before, but this time the firepower configuration is the most fierce, and Lascano is determined to make this operation a success.
Soon, the convoy appeared in Lascano's binoculars.
Members of the Los Zetas Organization, lying in ambush on the hillside, all switched off the safety on their weapons, made final adjustments, and entered combat readiness.
In Car 7, Song Heping looked through the night vision goggles at the continuous mountain ranges outside the window, and then at the mountain road with two turns.
He picked up the walkie-talkie and notified the other vehicles.
"The mountain road here has many turns, so the convoy will definitely slow down. Be cautious, there might be enemies nearby."
"Understood."
"Understood."
"Understood."
Replies came through the walkie-talkie.
"Prepare for confrontation, don't panic if we are attacked or if anyone is killed. Remember, five minutes! Five minutes!"
"Understood!"
Before White Bear's reply was finished, suddenly flames appeared on the hillside ahead, followed by something trailing a long tail of fire spurting out of the forest about sixty meters away from the hillside.
"RPG!"
The warning roar echoed throughout the channel.
Then, in less than 0.5 seconds, the second flame burst, another one.
And quickly, a third one!
Three rockets headed straight for Car 4.
Jiang Feng shouted, "They're coming!"
Song Heping shouted, "Launch smoke bombs!"
Boom—
Boom—
Boom—
Three rockets exploded in succession.
The first rocket hit the rear of Car 4, causing the entire vehicle to bounce.
Then the second rocket hit the front, blasting the engine out and onto the ground.
The third rocket missed, grazing the roof of the car, a narrow escape.
Even so, Car 4 was wrecked.
After shaking for a moment, it crashed into the mountainside, burst into flames, and lit up the whole highway.
People inside the car, their bodies on fire, screamed as they opened the doors and rushed out.
Bang bang bang—
Ratatat—
Gunfire erupted from the surrounding woods, sounding off like popping beans.
Several members of the Sinoloa Group who had just alighted from the vehicle were riddled with bullets.
"Full assault!"
Lascano, seeing Car 4 engulfed in flames and the people emerging being taken down, was thrilled.
The job was half done!
Even if not all were killed, and a few escaped, it wouldn't matter much.
Song Heping is dead!
Ten Million Dollars secured.
The territory seemed like it was beckoning him from just ahead.
However, sparing lives was not the typical practice of the Los Zetas Organization.
Their style was total annihilation.
Fierce assault team members, as if mad, set up various types of guns and unleashed a torrential barrage on the convoy.
Boom boom boom—
Boom boom boom—
Boom boom boom—
As the assault team members of the Los Zetas Organization fired crazily, smoke bombs were shot out from the vehicles using grenade launchers, all landing on the highway and in the woods.
In a short time, thick smoke covered the entire forest and the whole highway, making it impossible to see anyone.
