Mercenaries, I Will Be King

Chapter 718 - 659: Torture

Familiar Spanish entered his ears.

Barrett recognized it immediately, these guys holding him were Lao Mo's.

He was, after all, a professionally trained agent.

He reacted quickly, thrusting his hand desperately into the noose to avoid the rope tightening around his artery and causing his brain to pass out from temporary ischemia.

Once he fainted, it would be all over for him.

"I...I am...Barrett...from Song's..."

At that moment, Song Heping suddenly became his lifeline.

After all, Song Heping had become quite famous among the drug dealers in Mexico over the past couple of years.

Everyone knew he was a ruthless character who could even wipe out the entire Los Zetas Organization.

Using that reputation, as long as one was part of this circle, they would have some apprehensions.

But he was mistaken.

The other side had no intention of stopping.

They continued speaking in Spanish.

"Morado, press down harder, this guy is struggling too much."

"Torres, what are you standing there for, pour water on his towel!"

"Damn it! Tighten it!"

"The boss said he can't leave this room alive!"

Barrett was very familiar with Spanish.

Upon hearing this, his heart turned ice cold.

The other party was after his life.

"Who's your boss...who is..."

Finally, his hand managed to slip into the noose; it was extremely painful, but it bought him a brief respite to speak a complete sentence.

"Who?! Ha! You know our boss!"

Then someone said: "His hand! Pry it off!"

"Sure thing!"

Someone immediately responded.

Barrett suddenly felt a sharp pain in the hand that he had thrust into the noose.

A blade had been plunged directly into his palm...

No.

It was slicing through his fingers!

"Ahh—"

He began to scream.

"Shut him up!"

Someone was yelling angrily.

Suddenly, the towel over his face was removed and then stuffed into his mouth.

"Mmm mmm mmm—"

At this moment, Barrett felt the impending threat and proximity of death.

The Grim Reaper seemed to spread its wings above his head, circling, ready to descend and snatch his life away at any moment.

However, he had also gotten a clear look at the people in front of him.

Typical Lao Mo.

Clearly gang assassins.

Each one with a menacing look in their eyes.

These people had no mercy.

To them, killing a man was no different from slaughtering a fish.

Severe pain came again.

A killer standing by the bathtub actually used a knife to break off Barrett's middle finger after prying his hand.

But the job was crudely done, the finger was hacked rather than cut, and then snapped off...

Barrett was screaming, but no sound came out; he struggled, using up every ounce of strength in his body.

"Damn, fingers are so hard to cut..."

The assassin seemed to comment on his knife skills in the kitchen as if evaluating a piece of pork bone, examining the severed finger and expressing a similar sentiment.

"Don't worry, I've got experience now..."

He even grinned, reassuring Barrett as if he were a surgeon who accidentally leaves a scalpel inside a patient's abdomen during surgery, telling the agonizing, unanesthetized patient, "Sorry I left the surgical knife in your stomach, but don't worry, I've got experience," in a comical manner...

"Mmm mmm mmm—"

Barrett's pain receptors once again suffered a hurricane-like assault.

Because that guy really took that dagger and started to carve into his index finger...

But this time it really went much smoother than before.

The assassin immediately peeled his index finger out of the loop of the rope and then violently snapped it...

Crack!

Barrett heard the sound of his finger bones breaking.

"Ugh—"

His eyes bulged out an inch, as if they were about to pop out of their sockets.

But his cries were still low.

These assassins seemed to be very experienced.

Their skill in gagging was first-class, too tight indeed.

After breaking the finger, the assassin responsible for cutting it off smiled with satisfaction, looking at Barrett's index finger that had now drooped uncontrollably and boastfully said to his accomplice, "See, it's much easier to cut like this."

Having said that, he sliced along the joint and quickly took off Barrett's index finger with ease...

Barrett finally couldn't bear such inhuman torture and fainted.

The assassins, seeing the target pass out, let out a sigh of relief, took out ropes to tightly bind Barrett like hog-tying, lifted him from the front and back together, and carried him out of the garage, tossing him into the trunk of the Lexus.

The garage door rose, and the Lexus SUV slowly drove out, pausing outside the courtyard, with one person getting off and returning indoors, only to get back on the vehicle about five minutes later.

The car quickly headed west in the twilight, disappearing in the direction of the setting sun.

Boom—

Not long after the assassins left.

Barrett's house exploded in a loud blast, with both the second floor and the first turning to debris.

Then, thick smoke rose from the first floor.

Followed by fire.

The blaze grew fiercer and fiercer.

Neighbours screaming and running out watched from a distance as the detached villa turned into a fireball in the twilight and eventually into ashes.

Two hours later, Song Heping's mobile phone vibrated in the remote desert of Illiguo.

"Dwarf?"

"That's right, it's me."

The Dwarf sounded somewhat proud.

"Barrett's already hanging from the streetlamp."

"Hmm..."

Song Heping looked at his watch.

Less than five hours had passed.

"Your efficacy isn't bad."

He praised the Dwarf like a teacher complimenting a student.

The Dwarf said, "This is going to make big waves. If he's CIA, then I'll also be in trouble; I must say, I've taken a big risk this time."

"No risk, no meat?" Song Heping said, "There's no such good thing in the world. Dwarf, if you really want to break free from CIA's control, if you really want to sit at the table and negotiate with those agents, this might be your last chance."

The Dwarf fell silent on the other side.

After a long while, he finally said, "You're playing big, aren't you afraid of being assassinated by the CIA in the end?"

"Assassination?"

Song Heping suddenly burst into loud laughter.

"Hahaha! Do you know when they started trying to assassinate me? Remember when I went to your villa to discuss an alliance with several other families? Have you forgotten that your helicopter crashed? Who do you think provided the Stinger Missile to Los Zetas?"

The Dwarf was shocked.

He remembered that incident.

And cold sweat broke out on his back.

"I think I should hide for a while."

"No problem, go hide, wait for my message."

"By the way, what about moving the goods during this time?"

"Don't worry, with Barrett dead, the transport network is now in your hands. If you're concerned about issues, I can send someone to take over."

The Dwarf hesitated.

Taking over the Balrot transport network now was a great opportunity.

But he dared not.

Really dared not.

Starting a war with the CIA, it's better to let Song Heping be in the forefront.

Taking over the entire drug trafficking network would certainly enhance the strength of the organization a great deal, something he had always dreamed of.

But once doing so, he would become the brightest target in the Mexican Drug Lord circle, everyone watching him, be it the CIA or those scheming colleagues.

"Forget it, you send someone to take over... I don't want to catch this hot potato."
