Mercenary’s War
Chapter 2705 The Sunset Is Beautiful
Two servings of Georgian dumplings were brought out, followed by two goblets, and then the waiter poured wine into the glasses.
The dumplings are Georgian dumplings, and the wine is Chacha, both of which are Georgia’s most famous specialties. Although Sochi is not part of Georgia, it’s so close that it’s very influenced by Georgia.
Recalling his dumpling-eating experience in Kiev, Gao Yang looked at the object in front of him, which resembled mini buns, with great caution. Cheese-stuffed dumplings are not something everyone can handle.
"Teacher, may I ask, what’s the filling in these?"
Yarebin laughed and said, "The round ones are meat-filled. If they’re vegetarian, there are many varieties like cherry, cheese, potato, you name it."
Gao Yang let out a breath of relief. As long as it’s not cheese-filled, that’s fine.
But when the waiter put a small saucer in front of him, Gao Yang couldn’t stay calm. He looked at the white liquid in the dish and said with difficulty, "Is this cheese?"
"Yes, it is cheese."
The waiter answered Gao Yang, then put another glass on the table, poured a little wine into it, took out a match, lit it, and tossed it into the glass.
With a whoosh, the flame shot up, startling Gao Yang, because the burning wine was poured from the same bottle as the wine he was going to drink.
The waiter bowed slightly and smiled, "Enjoy your meal, gentlemen."
The waiter took away the burning glass. Gao Yang exclaimed in surprise, "This wine is really strong, huh."
Yarebin picked up his glass and said solemnly, "This is premium Chacha."
Yarebin took a small sip, and immediately started coughing. Gao Yang was startled, but Yarebin waved his hand, coughing, saying, "I’m okay, it’s just that this wine is really strong."
"Have you never had it before?"
Yarebin paused, finally nodded, and said, "Never had it. When I was young, my father wouldn’t let me try it. Well, let’s eat the dumplings."
Gao Yang followed by eating a dumpling, and then he discovered that it was pretty good, much tastier than he imagined, provided he didn’t dip it into that cheese.
He let out a little sigh of relief, slowly enjoying the decently tasty dumplings, occasionally taking a sip of Chacha. This meal was quite satisfactory.
A plate of twenty dumplings, Gao Yang finished without any pressure, while Yarebin ate eight, which wasn’t little considering his usual appetite.
Putting down the fork, Yarebin exhaled and said, "Not quite like I remembered, but somehow the same. I can’t figure it out. Are you full?"
"Just about. These dumplings are good, much better than the cheese ones."
"Don’t waste food; wasting is not a good habit."
Yarebin raised his plate, intending to give his leftovers to Gao Yang. Naturally, Gao Yang offered his plate, letting Yarebin transfer the rest over. Then he said to Yarebin, "You should drink less; this wine is too strong, just taste it."
Yarebin didn’t finish his glass, as Gao Yang didn’t want him to drink too much. Gao Yang’s own glass was also not finished, as he couldn’t drink much.
"I’m done eating."
He picked up a napkin, wiped his mouth, and burped, laughing, "Honestly, these dumplings are good."
Yarebin pulled out a few bills from his pocket, placed them on the table, and pressed them down with the glass, smiling, "I promised to treat. Since we’ve finished eating, let’s go for a walk with me."
The restaurant was by the sea, and within a few steps, they reached the beach.
An old man and a young man walked at a leisurely pace, but Yarebin seemed less talkative, as they walked quite far until Gao Yang thought they shouldn’t go further.
"Teacher, shall we take a break?"
There was a bench for tourists under the shade of a tree. Gao Yang helped Yarebin to the seat, and they both gazed out at the sea.
"It’s beautiful here."
"Yes, it’s truly beautiful. Teacher, do you want to go out on the sea for a bit?"
Yarebin waved his hand with a look of disgust, then whispered, "No, I hate the sea."
"What?"
"I hate the sea. Once, during training, we encountered big waves, and I swam far on the sea. Since then, I started hating the sea. I fear the sea; during a diving training once, my companion’s breathing apparatus malfunctioned, and he died. From then on, I feared the sea."
Yarebin shook his head with a bitter smile and said, "Don’t tell anyone that the captain of the Black Demon is scared of the sea. I’ve hidden it well all these years, haha."
Yarebin fell silent again, though Gao Yang wanted to chat with him more.
But sitting quietly also felt nice.
They sat from afternoon until dusk, watching the sun slowly dip westward, and slowly descend until it fully submerged into the sea, leaving a red glow on the water.
"The sunset, ah, it’s beautiful..."
Yarebin suddenly whispered and then said softly, "It’s getting dark, let’s go back."
"Alright, let’s go back. I’ll call a taxi."
"No, let’s walk back slowly."
They began their slow walk back. This time, Yarebin occasionally talked to Gao Yang about the buildings they passed, what they were used for back in the day, or paused in front of an ice cream stand, reminiscing about how the ice cream from his childhood wasn’t like this, but even tastier.
Under the glowing streetlights, Gao Yang and Yarebin returned home and knocked on the door. When the door opened, a sweaty Nicola, excited as ever, asked, "Are you satisfied with how it looks now?"
Just in one afternoon, the interior was entirely rearranged.
"Actually, most of the furniture was left when we moved in. Some were in the storeroom, and we brought them back out. Everything was restored as much as I remember. I remember clearly. Look at that gramophone, it still works; it’s considered an antique now, but nowadays, everything uses electronic devices, so I kept it well. I took it out again today. Ah, today was exhausting. It took a dozen of us all afternoon, but we finally got everything set up..."
Nicola proudly explained while Gao Yang smiled and said, "Thank you for your hard work."
Gao Yang looked at Yarebin, who took a long look around the living room and said in a daze, "Really, it’s almost like it used to be..."
Gao Yang nodded, gesturing to Joseph, who then took out a stack of bills and placed them in Nicola’s hand, saying, "Thank you for your help. This is your payment. Thank you, goodbye."
Yarebin slowly walked over to a rather simple-looking sofa, sat down, and whispered, "It’s still here..."
He nostalgically touched the armrest of the sofa, and Yarebin suddenly said, "The gramophone still works, right? Then play some music."
