Chapter 177: Chapter 131: Do Decent People Need a Whole Night for a Date?
Sting Litt and two Knights escorted Nancy Stuart out of the Gate of Black Rose Castle.
A luxurious carriage from Green Shade Territory was parked right at the entrance.
This was not the carriage that had brought Nancy Stuart here, but Lian’s personal one.
The dashing young Lord was currently chatting with a Guard at the Gate.
He gave off an approachable air, as if he could strike up a conversation with anyone.
The moment he saw Nancy Stuart, a smile bloomed on his face.
"Oh, my dear, you’ve kept me waiting for so long. Were you catching up with old colleagues?"
Lian said goodbye to the Guard and strode over.
Nancy Stuart froze for a moment. She hadn’t expected Lian to come pick her up in person.
’Is Lian waiting here because he was worried I’d be exposed and run into danger?’
’But if I were exposed, this place would be a deathtrap for him. For my sake, he’s completely disregarding his own safety.’
A sudden warmth flooded Nancy Stuart’s heart, and her eyes reddened slightly.
Realizing his "mistress" seemed to have been wronged, the smile on Lian’s face gradually faded.
Sting Litt and his two Knights, on the other hand, looked painfully constipated.
They hadn’t expected Lian to be here either.
Trying to snatch a woman right in front of Lian would surely get them in trouble with Mary.
Because Lian’s current status was special; he was someone Mary was trying to win over.
Bullying the tool used to curry favor with Lian was one thing—they could always find another tool—but they couldn’t bully Lian himself.
Not unless they could prove they were more valuable than Lian, this descendant of the Moria Clan and new noble of the Empire.
Even so, Sting Litt was unwilling to give up on the beautiful Nancy Stuart. He decided to invent an excuse, one that Lian couldn’t possibly refuse.
"Oh, Lord Lian, you’re here as well. We were just about to take Nancy on a secret mission. My apologies. While Miss Nancy is your mistress, she is also our colleague. We will personally return her to you after the mission is complete."
"I have no mission with them," Nancy Stuart said, her expression filled with disgust.
"Oh, Nancy, have you forgotten? The Rose Thorn you personally trained, Jillian Mora? She’s twelve years old now, an age where a flower is just about to bloom."
Sting Litt leaned in close to Nancy Stuart’s ear and threatened in a low voice.
Jillian Mora was an orphan Nancy had found. Mary had turned her into a Heartless, and she was now training in the Assassin’s Path at Rose Thorn.
The color drained from Nancy Stuart’s face. She couldn’t bear the thought of the girl she considered a sister coming to harm.
With his superhuman hearing, Lian Moria could hear any whisper within a thousand meters.
He smiled and snapped his fingers. From the carriage window, a cute girl with a freckled face and a touch of baby fat peeked her head out.
"Lord Nancy, why aren’t you getting in the carriage? Lord Lian said he’s taking us out to have fun today."
The speaker was none other than Jillian Mora, who had just turned twelve this year.
She wasn’t beautiful, but she was cute. As she spoke, her large, lively eyes blinked, seeming to retain a child’s innocence.
She had been well-protected by Nancy Stuart.
Nancy Stuart looked at Lian in astonishment.
"Sorry, I did some research on you. You’re my mistress, after all. I can’t have you doing anything that might be detrimental to me, can I?"
Lian said casually, "Now, my dear Miss Nancy, are you ready to leave with me? The carriage has been waiting for quite a while."
Nancy Stuart was filled with gratitude.
’As expected, Lian Moria never disappoints.’
Seeing that he could no longer threaten Nancy Stuart, Sting Litt’s brow furrowed so tightly it looked like you could wring water from it.
He was furious. Not just because of Lian’s inopportune arrival, which had ruined his plans, but because Lian hadn’t once looked him in the eye from start to finish. It was as if he were nothing but air, an insignificant nobody.
He was the Minister of War for Rose Territory! His position there was comparable to the third-in-command. He was a true, old-guard noble. Even Mary Frank had never treated him with such disdain.
And yet, this country bumpkin from the impoverished Green Shade Territory—originally just an uncouth Illegitimate Child, a real nobody—had shot up to become a new noble of the Empire thanks to a marriage alliance with the Jackson Family. He’d even won the approval of Duke Moria. Now this upstart was standing before him, acting as if he didn’t matter at all!
Stealing all the pretty girls from the pastry shops was one thing, but now he was trying to steal a top-tier woman like Nancy Stuart.
He couldn’t accept it. He simply couldn’t accept it.
He believed himself to be a hundred times better than Lian Moria.
He wanted to draw his Treasure Sword right now and run this eyesore through.
But he couldn’t do that.
Because doing so would bring him no benefit other than venting his anger.
He was not a man whose judgment was easily clouded by anger. As lecherous as he was, he was also quite rational.
Sting Litt gave the Knight beside him a look.
The Knight nodded, stepped forward, and drew the sword from his hip. He said to Lian,
"I am Yubel Grama, a Four-star Glory Knight and Second Knight to the Minister of War of Rose Territory. For the sake of Nancy Scalia, I hereby challenge you. If you lose, you will permit me to spend one night with Nancy Stuart."
