Modern Cultivation : The Strongest Couple Bonded by Vampire System
Chapter 739: Noblesse?
Adam had many sons and descendants. Throughout the war, he had lost many of them.
After finally winning the Progenitor War, he had decided not to father any more children. Only a few of his descendants remained, and Andrew was one of his favorites.
’I gave you those eyes!’
At the sound of his voice, Andrew stopped moving through the void. He turned his gaze toward Adam, trying to see through the universe.
He smiled, then opened his palm. The Asura Progenitor’s core appeared in his hand.
BANG!!!
The connection was severed, and the Human Progenitor recoiled.
His gaze turned cold. He had been through many things, and this was far from the first time his own kin had betrayed him. It was another reason he no longer wanted children.
His aura flared, cracking the palace floor. The Dao Immortal woman fell to the ground, her face pressed against the stone.
The pressure lasted only a moment before subsiding.
Adam opened more communication screens.
"Continue sending support. I want to hear from the first force that reaches Proxima."
"Yes, Your Majesty."
"Mobilize all our other forces within this system to contain Mars. Ignore the requests from the other systems."
The officer bowed and closed the connection.
Adam stared at the spreading warnings. Proxima had drawn the first response. Mars now demanded attention close to Earth. Other prison worlds were calling for forces that had their own territories to guard.
The Dao Immortal woman pushed herself onto her knees. She did not dare stand.
"Your Majesty..."
He didn’t look at her.
"My family’s world is beside that one."
She pointed toward a new warning, then lowered her hand when his eyes followed it.
"They’re your family, aren’t they? Shouldn’t they have another Dao Immortal? They should be able to protect themselves."
Adam turned toward her.
She tried to smile, but the fear remained on her face. The others were watching him too. The man who had complained about comfortable officials had stopped offering his opinions. He was staring at the map as if he might find his own home among the warnings.
Adam felt his anger rise.
He had given these people wealth and cultivation resources. They had enjoyed everything without a care. Now that trouble had come knocking, each of them was thinking only of themselves.
The throne’s armrest cracked beneath his hand.
The woman heard it and drew back.
"Your Majesty?"
Power burst from the throne.
She turned to ash before she could stand. The people behind her followed as the force passed through them.
The man opened his mouth. No sound came out.
The bottle struck the floor where the woman had been standing. Wine spread across the stone beneath the falling ash.
Adam sat without moving.
The projection flickered, then steadied. Another warning appeared on it. Adam watched several more turn red.
Almost half the map was marked now.
"So you really want to take my throne, Andrew. You should have just come to me instead of doing this."
His gaze grew colder. He swept his hand through the air, opening a passage into the void.
He was about to step through when he sensed a powerful force approaching Earth.
"Misfortune truly never comes alone."
He turned his gaze toward the sky.
"It’s been a while, old friend."
Beneath Proxima’s ruined capital, Alex’s green fire struck a red-eyed vampire as it crossed his rune line. Behind it, the others kept coming, while Mingyue stood between them and the wounded Sovereigns.
Flames entered the wounds across the vampire’s chest. Its body twisted, but it kept reaching forward until its legs failed beneath it.
The next one stepped on its back.
Alex changed the runes. Fire rose higher along the line, catching the second attacker before it could jump across. Behind them, more bodies were already spreading to either side.
They had no fear of death. That made them easy to lure and difficult to stop without destroying them completely.
"Mingyue, the right."
"I see them."
Her sword swept past his shoulder. A purple slash crossed the broken platform to their right and cut through the legs of a vampire trying to reach the wounded Sovereigns.
It fell, then dragged itself forward with its hands.
Ice closed around its head. Mingyue tightened her grip, and the frozen head shattered.
Marcell flinched behind her.
Alex noticed, but he couldn’t spare the time to comfort him. These attackers had once fought beside Marcell, facing life and death together. Now they were trying to kill him and the others, their bodies moving like puppets.
Thepes watched from beyond the fire.
"Is this all you can do?" he asked.
Alex raised another layer of runes. A blood spear struck before the formation was complete.
BANG!
The outer runes shattered. Alex stepped aside as the broken spear passed his face and buried itself in the stone behind him.
Thepes had advanced behind the first spear. A second shot through the broken formation toward Alex.
Mingyue brought one sword across Alex’s front and cut the spear apart. Blood scattered over the ice at their feet.
"Vesa," Alex called. "Bring Dorian and Selene. Everyone who’s ready to fight."
Thepes’s blood rose from the floor.
Alex recognized the movement and threw a rune barrier between Mingyue and the rising blood. Spikes hammered into it, forcing him to feed more power into the barrier.
Thepes didn’t need to defeat them immediately. As long as they were busy protecting the wounded, his followers could keep attacking from every side.
A spatial opening formed behind Mingyue’s barrier.
Vesa appeared first, her four wings carrying her small pink body above the broken platform. Her gaze swept over the ruined cocoon and stopped on Thepes.
"What is that abomination?"
"An artificial Progenitor," Alex said. "They used Alucard’s artifact to make him. Protect the wounded Sovereigns. We’ll deal with him."
Vesa bared her fangs.
"They used Master’s artifact for this?"
A blood blade swept toward the platform. Mingyue intercepted it, scattering purple ice across the broken stone.
Vesa turned toward the wounded. Her wings stilled for a moment when she saw the man lying nearest Mingyue’s ice barrier.
"Marcell?"
He lifted his head at her voice.
"Noblesse?"
His arm shook as he tried to push himself upright.
"Stay where you are," she said. "You can explain after this is over."
Marcell sank back onto the ice, still staring at her.
Dorian came through the connection to Edonia with armed vampires behind him. His gaze passed over the wounded Sovereigns, then settled on the red-eyed bodies advancing toward them. His lip curled.
"Protect those old fogies. These things have disgraced our race enough."
He moved to the front of the formation, and his soldiers followed, meeting the attackers coming from the left.
CLANG!!!
Weapons clashed, and stone cracked beneath their feet.
Selene followed through the opening. She checked the wounded, then pointed the nearest soldiers toward the exposed flank.
"Close that gap. Let nothing through."
Another wounded Sovereign tried to rise. Selene caught his shoulder and pushed him back onto the ice.
"Stay down. You can fight when you can stand."
Vesa’s gaze followed a red-eyed corpse as it threw itself against Dorian’s line. Her fangs were still bared when she looked back at Thepes.
"King, we should kill that thing."
Alex tightened his grip on his hammer and moved to join Mingyue.
