Modern: My Broken Sign In system

Chapter 34: Sub-Ability

  • Next Chapter

As Ben stared at his system screen, Amanda spoke.

"What are you so dazed about? Just look at your new sub-ability and see what you awakened."

She assumed that Ben was simply distracted because she and the others couldn’t see his system screen.

Ben nodded.

"Well, I was just thinking about how powerful my new sub-ability is."

Amanda smiled.

"Given how powerful your innate ability is, it’s only natural for your sub-ability to be powerful as well. Anyway, show us what you awakened."

Maya and Morbius also looked at Ben with curiosity.

Meanwhile, Lumi, the little glutton, was still busy digesting the Star Grass.

Ben nodded and raised his hand.

White, hazy energy began flowing out of his body before gathering in front of him. The energy slowly condensed into a small, fluffy, and beautiful white rabbit with bright blue eyes and a small horn on its forehead.

"Huh? A White Horn Rabbit?" Amanda asked with surprise. "Your sub-ability can summon such a cute creature?"

She seemed slightly confused because the creature didn’t look particularly strong.

"Yes, although it’s not an ordinary Horned Rabbit. It’s a White Horn Rabbit."

Ben smiled before looking at the rabbit.

"Use Ruination Ray on that training dummy."

The White Horn Rabbit immediately raised its head.

A small amount of White Ruination gathered around its horn before a thin white ray shot toward the training dummy.

The moment the ray struck the dummy, its entire body began to erode.

Within seconds, the training dummy turned completely white before crumbling into ash.

"What!?" Maya and Amanda exclaimed at the same time.

Ben smiled proudly.

"I know, right? Who would have thought a rabbit could be this cool and powerful?"

Amanda shook her head.

"That’s not what surprised us."

She pointed toward the remains of the training dummy.

"That dummy was made to withstand attacks from First Stage Silver Realm cultivators, yet your White Horn Rabbit destroyed it almost instantly."

Ben raised an eyebrow.

"Really?"

Maya nodded.

"Yes. That attack you just demonstrated can kill an enemy who is an entire major realm above you."

Ben looked at the rabbit with renewed interest.

"That’s actually pretty impressive."

Morbius shifted slightly before speaking.

"What are you two so surprised about? We already knew this kid’s innate ability was absurd. Since his sub-ability is directly related to his innate ability, it’s only natural for it to be absurd as well."

He looked at Ben with a dismissive expression.

However, deep inside, even Morbius was shocked.

This kid is becoming more and more absurd.

He quickly suppressed his thoughts.

As the Death Flame Cerberus, he couldn’t let these humans see him being surprised so easily.

Amanda looked at Ben.

"Can you summon another one?"

Ben nodded.

"Yes. I can summon a dog as well."

He raised his hand and activated his Ruination Beast ability again.

White, hazy energy emerged from his body and gathered in front of him. A moment later, it condensed into the shape of a small white dog covered in faint white mist.

The White Mist Dog looked around curiously before turning toward Ben.

Ben pointed toward another training dummy.

"Show us your ability."

The White Mist Dog immediately moved.

White Ruination spread across its body before transforming into thick white mist. The mist rapidly expanded throughout the room, surrounding the training dummy from every direction.

The mist began eroding the dummy.

Within moments, the entire training dummy turned white and crumbled into ash.

Maya looked at the result with interest.

"It seems like both of them have different strengths."

"That’s right," Amanda replied. "The White Horn Rabbit seems to specializes in speed and ranged attacks, while the White Mist Dog is better suited for direct combat and attacks that cover a large area."

Ben nodded.

"Hmm, you are right."

Amanda looked at him seriously.

"Just like your White Ruination ability, you should keep your Ruination Beast ability hidden as well."

Ben nodded.

"I understand."

"Your abilities are too unusual. If other races learn about them, they may see you as a potential threat and target you before you have enough strength to protect yourself."

Ben nodded again.

"I’ll make sure to keep them hidden."

Amanda was satisfied with his response.

"As for today, we’ll focus on something else."

Ben looked at her curiously.

"What?"

Amanda glanced toward Morbius.

"We’re going to see if you can learn how to use some of Morbius’s Death Flames through your soul connection."

Ben’s eyes lit up.

"His Death Flames?"

Morbius immediately looked toward Amanda.

"You’re teaching him that?"

Amanda nodded.

"His soul is connected to yours, so he should be able to borrow some of your power. Since his current cultivation is still low, learning to control the Death Flames could give him another useful combat method."

"After all he can’t show his true abilities easily " she said.

Morbius sighed.

"I suppose there’s no harm in trying."

Amanda then turned toward Ben.

"First, you need to understand how your soul connection works. Since Morbius is your familiar, a portion of his power can flow through the connection between your souls."

"Don’t try to force the connection open. Instead, focus on sensing it."

Ben closed his eyes and followed her instructions.

He slowly focused his consciousness inward, searching for the connection between himself and Morbius.

After a few moments, he could sense something faint connecting their souls.

"There."

Amanda nodded.

"Good. Now carefully extend your consciousness through that connection."

Ben followed her instructions.

The moment he touched the connection, he felt a powerful energy on the other side.

Morbius’s Death Flame.

"Don’t absorb it directly," Amanda warned. "You need to draw out only a small amount and guide it through your own energy channels."

Ben nodded and carefully began drawing a small strand of Death Flame through their soul connection.

A faint black flame appeared around his hand.

Ben looked at it with interest.

"So this is Morbius’s Death Flame."

Morbius watched him carefully.

"Control it with your celestial energy. If you let the flame run freely, you’ll have a difficult time controlling it."

Ben nodded and began circulating his celestial energy around the Death Flame.

The black flame slowly stabilized in his palm, and his eyes lit up with excitement. However, the moment his concentration broke, the flame disappeared, leaving only a few fading embers.

Amanda shook her head.

"You’ll need to practice a lot more before you can properly control the Death Flames. Eventually, you should be able to keep the ability active even subconsciously, allowing you to shift your focus to other things."

Ben nodded.

"Understood."

And so, his training for the day began.
