Mommy, Daddy Has Already Regretted It
Chapter 175: Christian Slams the Green Tea
Chapter 175: Chapter 175: Christian Slams the Green Tea
Everyone present knew Thea York’s identity. Seeing her casually drop Estelle Lockwood’s name, the bystanders couldn’t help but be taken aback. Did this Miss York, who was supposedly about to enter into a marriage alliance with Mr. Sloan, actually know Mrs. Sloan?
After speaking, Thea feigned nonchalance and continued walking forward, though she kept catching glimpses of Nathaniel Sloan’s expression from the corner of her eye. Seeing that Nathaniel remained silent for a long time, she felt as if she had been snubbed. She bit her lip. "Nathaniel..."
"Miss York, our Madam has her own work to tend to," Luke White stepped forward with a polite smile. "Your suggestion is nice, but it lacks practicality."
Thea’s face stiffened, her complexion alternating between pale and flushed. After a couple of seconds, she reverted to her persona of an understanding, "one of the boys" friend, feigning a carefree attitude. "Oh, I know. You just can’t bear to see Estelle work so hard.
"Sometimes, I really envy Estelle. She has such a great husband like you. She doesn’t have to work and has endless money to spend, all while being pampered and provided for. It’s not like me when I was abroad, having to struggle so much..."
At this, Thea seemed to recall some sad memories and hastily shook her head.
"Never mind, never mind. Why am I even bringing this up? I’m like one of the guys anyway, so it’s only right that I endure a little more hardship. I’m not a delicate girl like Estelle. Everyone has their own destiny, and it’s not something I can envy anyway."
Luke immediately looked as if he had swallowed a fly.
He thought about how weird her words sounded. She was calling the Madam a delicate, spoiled woman while labeling herself a "man" and a "good bro." While claiming it was only right for her to endure hardship, she was subtly implying that the Madam couldn’t handle any suffering. Furthermore, calling herself a "brother" to a married man was just... Luke couldn’t even find the words to describe it.
Nathaniel cast a faint, downward glance at her. "A man?"
Thea flashed a smile. "Yeah, I’m a rough guy, and I’m used to—"
"Miss York might have some cognitive dissonance regarding her gender. I’ll be sure to bring this up with Chairman York," Nathaniel interjected.
Thea’s smile faltered slightly. "Nathaniel, what are you saying? What cognitive dissonance? Alright, alright, I wasn’t comparing myself to Estelle anyway. I was just making an offhand remark..."
"Mia, what kind of green tea is this? It smells so good."
Suddenly, a sweet, milky little boy’s voice interrupted Thea.
Thea frowned instinctively, but upon seeing who had arrived, she immediately put on a smiling face.
Nathaniel quickly walked over, his joy evident. "Christian, Zachery, Mia. Did you come looking for Daddy?"
Zachery, who had just spoken, nodded before seamlessly picking up his previous topic. "Mia, do you smell it? It’s super fragrant. It must be top-tier green tea."
The crowd hadn’t quite processed this. What top-tier green tea? Where was the green tea?
Mia feigned curiosity. "I see the green tea, but why do you say it’s top-tier?"
Zachery shook his head with an expression that screamed that she just didn’t get it. "The scent is subtle, lingering just out of reach. This green tea disguises itself as something perfectly normal, but when you get close, you can catch a whiff of its uniquely manipulative aroma."
"Wow, Zachery, you’re amazing! I get it now!" Mia exclaimed.
After speaking, the three little ones cast a subtle glance at Thea.
At this point, even those who didn’t want to understand caught on.
Accompanying Nathaniel on his inspection was a female executive, who had two department managers under her, followed by their assistants and secretaries. More than half the people here were female employees. Upon hearing Zachery’s words, how could they not realize what was going on? Thinking back to the things Thea had just said... what was all that about? Calling herself a "brother" to a married man and belittling Mrs. Sloan just to show off her own "independence"? That kind of trick had gone out of style a decade ago!
Thea’s face froze. She bit her lip hard, her hands involuntarily clenching into fists. "Nathaniel, are these your children? I finally get to meet them. They’re so cute... Oh, right, did Estelle not come?"
She offered a light smile. "The children are still so young. How could she let them come to the company all by themselves? As a mother, isn’t Estelle worried?"
Mia smiled. She wondered what was wrong with this woman. It was one thing to badmouth their mommy in front of their daddy, but now she was trying to stir up trouble with the three of them, too?
Just as she was about to speak, she saw Christian calmly shake his head. "Aunt York, Mommy is very busy."
Mia was rendered speechless. She took a step back, yielding the stage to the little young master.
Thea’s eyes flickered. She maintained her carefree, "good bro" persona and voiced her disapproval.
"Nathaniel, I don’t mean to pry, but how busy can Estelle really be? No matter what she’s working on, the children should always come first. You really should talk to her about this. Don’t blame me for speaking out of turn—I’m only saying this because I’m your good brother."
Mia spoke up sweetly, "Daddy, Grandma Kendrick brought us here. Mommy knows about it, too!"
Nathaniel nodded. His gaze turned cold and displeased as he looked at Thea. "How Estelle handles things is not for you to criticize."
"Nathaniel." Thea shook her head helplessly. "Forget it. I’m just an outsider anyway. The more I say, the more mistakes I make. If you think it’s fine, then it’s fine.
"Speaking of which, I really do envy Estelle. She doesn’t have to worry about a career, nor does she have to stress over the family. You give her whatever she wants. She doesn’t have to do a thing; she just gets to enjoy life every day..."
"Aunt York, my mommy actually envies you, too," Christian suddenly interjected.
Knowing that their very own little "green tea" was about to obliterate the competition, Mia and Zachery took a half-step back.
Christian lowered his head and sighed. "My mommy is so busy. She has to fight for her career and build everything from the ground up. It’s not like you, Aunt York. You have your family’s support. Grandpa York has practically handed you the entire York family’s resources. But my mommy... sigh..."
A hint of amusement flashed in Nathaniel’s eyes.
Christian continued, "I heard Aunt York registered a company abroad, right? You work so hard, Aunt York, documenting your strenuous efforts on Weibo every day. It’s really enviable how you got such a big company without lifting a finger. Not like my mommy. Boo-hoo, she has to do everything herself."
Mia nodded along.
Thea wanted to mock their mommy for being idle and getting things for nothing? Who was the real one getting something for nothing here? Thea threw her weight around using the York family’s power, pretending to be a busy, strong career woman. In reality, all of Thea’s achievements were handed to her on a silver platter by Chairman York. Estelle, on the other hand, was the real deal. She had founded Star from scratch and personally led its design direction.
The surrounding employees also caught on, their gazes toward Thea growing increasingly veiled with mockery.
Thea’s smile became utterly rigid. She was screaming internally, wishing she could strangle all three of these brats to death! Just they wait. Once she secured her marriage alliance with Nathaniel, she would get rid of them sooner or later!
But for now, she had to maintain her "good bro" persona. She forced a nonchalant smile. "Christian makes a lot of sense. Nathaniel, my godson is just too cute."
Little did anyone know, she had practically ground her back teeth to dust while saying that.
Zachery curled his lips. Godson? Who was her godson?
Sure enough, Christian started unleashing his ultimate move again:
