Chapter 202: Chapter 202: Liam Sloan’s Defense

Ethan Sloan was instantly furious.

He couldn’t believe that Nathaniel Sloan looked down on the Sloan Group. The company was currently at the height of its power, yet Nathaniel actually said he looked down on it. Ethan had poured his heart and soul into the business. Although the Sloan Group used to be unranked, in recent years, it had become one of the top conglomerates in Crestfall.

Yet everyone said that he was only able to develop the Sloan Group by riding on Nathaniel’s coattails. Ethan had never taken this to heart. These achievements were clearly due to his own abilities; what did they have to do with Nathaniel?

But now, Ethan felt as if he were choking on his own blood.

He wondered what right Nathaniel had to look down on the Sloan Group. It had to be a lie. There was no way Nathaniel wouldn’t care about a cash cow like the Sloan Group. But regardless, Ethan was determined to leave all of this to Theodore!

At the Sloan family villa.

Laura Jennings came downstairs. Seeing the visitors, her eyes instantly lit up. She hurried forward with a fawning expression. "Theodore!"

Theodore Lancaster had arrived with the Second Miss Lancaster, who was in her forties.

Yvonne Lancaster, the Second Miss Lancaster, was dripping in jewels. Everything she wore proclaimed how favored she was in both the Lancaster family and her husband’s family.

Yvonne looked Laura up and down. To be honest, she looked down on a shrew like Laura who would scream herself hoarse at the drop of a hat. But at the thought that the bitch Miranda Lancaster had actually died at Laura’s hands, Yvonne revealed a condescending smile.

"Mrs. Sloan, our Theodore is the proper heir of the Sloan family. The Sloan family shouldn’t chill Theodore’s heart just because you can’t bear to part with Nathaniel."

Laura hurriedly curried favor. "No, no, of course not. We all know that Theodore is the true heir. Nathaniel is just an illegitimate child."

Laura feigned sadness. "Speaking of which, I’ve wronged Theodore. If Nathaniel hadn’t instigated me into marrying Ethan back then, Theodore wouldn’t have lost his mother and been left out in the cold. Sigh!

"It’s all my fault. It’s my fault for ruining the marriage between Ethan and Miss Lancaster. It’s all my fault!"

Yvonne smiled faintly and comforted her, "Mrs. Sloan, how can you be blamed for this? You didn’t do it on purpose. Besides, you’ve repented for so many years; that’s enough."

Laura rubbed her hands together. Meeting Theodore’s cold eyes, she couldn’t help but want to please him.

Right at that moment, Liam Sloan pushed the door open while yawning. He spotted the people in the living room at a glance.

Before he could speak, Theodore looked up. "This must be Liam?"

Liam turned to look at Theodore, unable to recall who this was for a moment. Laura couldn’t wait to speak. "Yes, yes, he is Liam."

Saying that, Laura turned to Liam. "Liam, come quickly. This is Theodore. Say hello to your brother."

Liam was puzzled. Theodore Lancaster? The legitimate son who had just returned home? The biological son of his scumbag father’s first wife, Miss Miranda Lancaster?

Laura had already started to fuss over Theodore. "Theodore, what would you like to drink? Do you want some fruit? I’ll go get it for you."

"Whatever," Theodore said flatly.

"Okay, okay, I’ll go brew some tea for you right now," Laura hastily replied.

Liam was thoroughly dumbfounded, his head full of question marks. He wondered, "No, wait a minute. Isn’t my mother the mistress? Why is the mistress getting along so well with the first wife’s son? Anyone who didn’t know better would think Theodore is her biological son."

At this moment, Laura returned with a plate of fruit. "Liam, I’m talking to you. Why are you still spacing out?"

Suppressing the doubts in his heart, Liam played dumb. "Theodore."

Yvonne knew about Laura’s son. He had been intentionally raised to be a fool. Yvonne was very satisfied with this, and her smile widened.

"Mrs. Sloan, you’ve raised Liam quite well."

Laura was extremely excited. "You’re too kind, Second Miss Lancaster. This is all I should do. Liam, quickly thank Aunt Yvonne for the compliment."

Liam narrowed his eyes. The more he thought about it, the more something felt wrong. Suddenly, an idea came to him. He wondered, "I’m a well-known idle trust fund baby, so why is Yvonne praising me? Isn’t it just because she likes that I’m brainless and won’t compete with Theodore for the inheritance? Then I’ll show her just how brainless I am!"

Feigning surprise, Liam widened his eyes. "Aunt Yvonne? Mom, is this the lady from the Lancaster family?"

Yvonne instinctively raised her chin. Even though she was already in her forties and married, the thing she was most proud of in her life was her status as a daughter of the Lancaster family. "That’s right, it’s me."

"Is it really?" Liam marveled. He looked at Yvonne, then at Laura, before his gaze finally returned to Yvonne. "Second Miss Lancaster, you are Miss Miranda’s sister. Why are you on such good terms with my mother?

"Your Lancaster family hates Nathaniel to death. I thought you guys would want my mother dead too. After all, it was because my mother took her place that Miss Miranda died of depression!"

The living room fell dead silent.

The smile froze on Laura’s face. She wanted to hurl a torrent of abuse at him, but then she remembered that Liam had always been this stupid—and she was the one who had single-handedly raised him to be this way. The breath caught in her throat, unable to go up or down.

However, Yvonne’s smile remained intact, her expression unchanging. "You can’t put it that way. You weren’t even born at the time, so naturally, you wouldn’t know what Nathaniel did.

"Back then, seeing that Mrs. Sloan didn’t have the intention of taking the wife’s position, the Lancaster family thought about sending Theodore back. But who knew that five-year-old Nathaniel would oppose it so vehemently?

"He said that if Theodore dared to return, he would definitely find a way to kill him. How could we dare to risk Theodore’s life!"

Laura immediately chimed in, "Exactly! Liam, do you know why I’ve never been close to Nathaniel since he was young? I am his biological mother! If it weren’t for the fact that he went too far and harbored such vicious thoughts from a young age, how could I bear to distance myself from my own son?"

Liam’s inner sneer grew colder, but on the surface, he maintained his foolish and naive look. "Oh, so that’s how it is."

"Yes. Now that Theodore is back, it’s time for Nathaniel to atone for his sins," Laura said, looking at Yvonne hypocritically. "Mrs. Lancaster, although you said we should leave some shares and assets for Nathaniel, as his biological mother, I still feel that we absolutely cannot leave him anything. Otherwise, what if it fuels his ambitions?

"After all, Theodore is Ethan’s true heir. He has suffered too many grievances over the years. How can we treat him unfairly?"

Yvonne feigned being moved, but in her heart, she was unbelievably smug. She had already beaten Miranda in this life, and now Nathaniel... Hahaha! In an excellent mood and feeling that victory was within her grasp, she said, "We can discuss it further when Ethan returns. Mrs. Sloan, it’s enough that you have this intention."

Laura pretended to wipe away tears. "Yes, yes. Who asked Nathaniel to be an illegitimate child?"

Seeing the two of them putting on such a hypocritical act, Liam couldn’t help but sneer inwardly. He thought, "Heh. The Sloan Group? Inheritance rights? Shares? All these years, has my brother ever cared for anything from the Sloan Group?"

Just then, after Laura said something else, Yvonne smiled and said, "Yes, Theodore. When the time comes, if we do Mr. Lynch a favor, are you still afraid Mr. Lynch won’t support you?"

Liam pricked up his ears. Mr. Lynch?
