Chapter 253: Chapter 253: Director Carson Is Willing to Tell the Truth

"Do you remember now, Director Carson?" Estelle asked with a sweet smile.

Director Carson more than remembered. Her face was filled with terror. She kept backing away until she finally let out a scream, suddenly turning around to run outside!

Estelle slightly raised her hand, and Luke White, who was guarding the door, blocked Director Carson’s path.

Estelle smiled radiantly. "Director Carson, why are you running? After all, I’m a child you raised. What is there to be afraid of when I’ve just come back to visit you?"

Director Carson’s lips were trembling. "Estelle, Estelle, I don’t know! I really don’t know who your biological parents are! Back then... back then, when Chairman Lockwood brought you here, he warned me not to speak out of turn. I didn’t dare offend him!"

Estelle was speechless. Was this what gamers called baiting out an ultimate move with a basic attack? She hadn’t even said anything yet. She had only come to ask if Austin had intentionally abandoned her at the orphanage. To her surprise, Director Carson just spilled everything, even revealing the most crucial point—she wasn’t Austin’s daughter, and Director Carson didn’t know who her biological parents were.

Estelle raised an eyebrow. "It seems you know quite a lot, Director Carson."

Director Carson suddenly realized what she had done, her face instantly darkening. "You tricked me—"

Estelle shook her head. "You were just too nervous, Director Carson. After all, I only suspected that Austin harbored ill intentions and deliberately abandoned me. I never expected you to tell me that I wasn’t the biological daughter of the Lockwood family."

Tilting her head, Estelle continued, "Now this is getting interesting. Since I’m not Austin’s biological daughter, why was I sent to the orphanage by him and Rose Lowell? Oh... don’t tell me they were trafficking infants?"

Director Carson became exasperated. "That’s not what I meant! Don’t talk nonsense!"

Estelle chuckled softly. "Then what did you mean, Director Carson?"

Director Carson choked on her words. "I-I mean, you and Chairman Lockwood aren’t father and daughter. He sent you to the orphanage just because... because..." She stammered for a long time but couldn’t bring herself to finish the sentence.

Looking at Estelle with a mix of terror and resentment, she suddenly seemed to find her courage. "I opened this orphanage and saved thousands of orphans! I do good deeds! You have no right to interrogate me!"

Estelle nodded calmly. "Yes, Director Carson, I don’t deny that you’ve done good deeds, which is why I don’t want to blow this out of proportion. I just want to know the truth about my background. Why did I end up in Austin’s hands? And why did he dump me in the orphanage and swap my identity with Noelle Lockwood’s?"

"I... I..." Back then, Director Carson had accepted the money and had been threatened by Austin. Naturally, she didn’t dare say anything. After all, how could a lowly orphanage director dare to go up against the chairman of the Lockwood Group?

Inside the orphanage, some of the older children were curiously looking outside. Upon seeing Estelle, they stared at her multiple times.

One of the girls gasped in surprise, "Wow, it’s Estelle!"

Director Carson’s expression stiffened.

Estelle was a bit surprised. "You know me?"

The girl was around ten years old but looked incredibly petite, a result of malnutrition. Even though the orphanage received donations from caring individuals, it still couldn’t compare to the lives of children with parents.

"Yeah! Didn’t you donate a lot of things to us, Estelle? I’ve secretly seen you before!"

Estelle paused. She had indeed donated supplies to this orphanage, but since she never wanted to show her face, she had always arranged for her assistant to handle the deliveries. She had only visited in person once. She hadn’t expected it to be such a coincidence that the children had spotted her.

Rubbing the little girl’s head, Estelle turned to Luke White. "Let’s bring the supplies in first."

Only then did Director Carson realize that Estelle had brought several truckloads of supplies!

A lawyer stood next to Luke White. "Hello, Director Carson. Miss Estelle is donating twenty million to the orphanage. Do you have a financial officer and a legal representative to coordinate with me?"

Director Carson was stunned.

Estelle had come to the orphanage with a black card and multiple trucks filled with supplies. Her children even mentioned that Estelle had visited several times before, donating a great deal of items. Come to think of it, the orphanage had had a mysterious benefactor over the years. Director Carson had always wanted to thank this enigmatic woman, but she had given up after being told that the lady lived abroad. And now, Estelle... That’s right! Hadn’t Estelle been living abroad for the past few years?

More and more children surrounded Estelle, incessantly calling out to her. Estelle patted each of their heads one by one.

The supplies consisted mostly of items for girls, as the orphanage had significantly more girls than boys. Most of these girls had been deliberately abandoned—their families wanted a boy, so what could they do when a girl was born? They could only secretly leave them at the orphanage’s doorstep in the dead of night.

Director Carson had also been abandoned by her family when she was little. There were too many girls in her family to feed, so they tossed her away. At the time, she swore that when she grew up, she would do everything in her power to give these abandoned children a home.

As for Estelle... In truth, Estelle hadn’t been "abandoned," but her situation was even more sinister. Estelle was right—Austin had indeed stolen someone else’s child! She wanted to give all abandoned girls a home, but did that have to be built upon another girl’s suffering? Estelle didn’t even know who her parents were... She had only lived in the orphanage for half a year, yet she had consistently donated to it year after year. She... she... For a moment, Director Carson felt entirely lost.

"Director Carson, I presume you didn’t spend the money Chairman Lockwood gave you back then on yourself."

After the children dispersed, Estelle said, "More than twenty years ago, Austin gave you a substantial sum of money, yet you still live simply. Instead, the orphanage’s buildings were renovated. You took that money for the orphanage."

Estelle knew that a director capable of caring for so many orphans couldn’t be bad at heart. She said, "I only want the truth from you. As for whatever happens between me and Austin afterward, I promise I won’t mention your name, nor will I bring up this orphanage."

Director Carson vaguely sensed that something was amiss. "Estelle, what do you mean? What happened with Chairman Lockwood?"

Estelle gave a brief explanation. "As his supposed biological daughter, Chairman Lockwood wants to marry me off to the eldest son of Britain’s Prince Avery."

Director Carson was taken aback. "But... aren’t you already married?"

"I am," Estelle replied languidly. "But Chairman Lockwood said that marriages are arranged by parents and matchmakers. So what if I’m already married? I’m his daughter, so I have to obey him."

Director Carson didn’t dare speak for a moment. What kind of mess was this! She knew the truth. She knew that Austin and Estelle weren’t father and daughter, and that Austin had even stolen this child from someone else. And now he was forcing Estelle to marry some prince’s eldest son?

The more Director Carson thought about it, the more her conscience plagued her. "Estelle... how about this. You two... go wait inside for a moment. I’ll show you something."
