Chapter 294: Chapter 294: The Funeral Is About to Begin! Estelle Finds Liam Sloan

Ever since Estelle Lockwood returned to the Lockwood family seven years ago and married Nathaniel Sloan a year later, Laura Jennings had been waiting for her to die!

She didn’t even know why she harbored such intense hatred for the girl, but what did it matter? As Mrs. Sloan, she was Estelle’s mother-in-law. If she wanted her dead, then she had to die!

Although Estelle was still alive right now, who would ever know? In the eyes of the world, she was already dead!

As for Theodore...

"Mrs. Sloan, please accept my condolences," a voice interrupted Laura’s thoughts.

Laura’s eyes darted around, and she instantly put on a look of deep sorrow. "Sigh... How can I possibly contain my grief? I used to be too strict with Estelle, which made her resent me. I wanted to reconcile with her, but now she’s...

"Never mind. The dead deserve the utmost respect. Now that Estelle is gone, saying these things just makes it sound like I’m trying to make myself look good.

"Sigh, I just feel so terrible for the child. As her mother-in-law, I’m truly filled with guilt..."

Laura looked as though she was about to burst into tears.

The bystanders hurriedly comforted her. "Mrs. Sloan, please don’t be so hard on yourself. Although you were strict with Mrs. Sloan, she surely understood your good intentions.

"Now that Mrs. Sloan is gone, you must take care of your health. If she knew you were crying day and night, it would definitely break her heart!"

Laura sniffled and finally revealed a fragile smile.

Standing off to the side, Liam Sloan was completely speechless. His eyes were glazed over, utterly numb to the entire spectacle.

Over the past few days at the Sloan family estate, he was the only one who had shed genuine tears for Estelle.

He thought, "SOB! Estelle, why did you have to die?! SOB! Did my mother and that bastard Theodore Lancaster get you killed?! SOB! I will definitely avenge you!

"These people are complete scum. You’re already dead, yet they’re still using you to put on a show! They’re exploiting your death to salvage their own reputations. How shameless! They won’t even let you rest in peace!

"And then there’s Auntie. She used to dote on you the most, but when I went to cry to her, she just rested her chin on her hand and told me not to be sad because you’re still alive."

Liam felt even more heartbroken. She had been knocked right into the river. Even if the car crash hadn’t killed her, she had surely drowned by now. How could she possibly still be alive?

The more Liam thought about it, the more devastated he felt. Tears couldn’t help but well up in his eyes once again.

He thought, "ARGH! They’re so shameless! I really want to ruin this funeral! Estelle definitely wouldn’t want a funeral hosted by people with such malicious intentions! But this is undeniably her funeral... SOB..."

COUGH, COUGH. Suddenly, a coughing sound rang out from behind him.

Liam froze in confusion. He looked around. He was currently in an empty, unoccupied room. After all, it would be far too humiliating if the young master of the Sloan family was caught crying in front of outsiders. He also didn’t want to cry in front of Laura and Theodore Lancaster, lest he be ridiculed. Because of this, he had to sneak away to cry in secret.

There was clearly no one else in this room, yet he had just heard a woman’s cough...

Liam was utterly shocked. He thought, "Damn it, am I seeing a ghost?! SOB... I knew my mother was crossing the line! See, even the wandering ghosts can’t stand to watch this anymore!"

Crying, Liam muttered to himself, "Don’t come after me. Go find my mother and Theodore Lancaster. Yes, especially Theodore! He’s definitely the one who killed Estelle. Go get your revenge on him! Good ghosts get good karma, and I’ll burn plenty of incense for you..."

Estelle was speechless.

She had absolutely no idea what was going on in Liam’s head. Quietly poking her head through the window, she whispered, "Hurry, give me a hand."

Liam paused. His eyes widened in absolute shock. "E-Estelle?!"

Estelle nodded. "I can’t trust anyone else, and Auntie is busy probing Laura right now, so I could only come to you."

Liam’s eyes were blank, his lips parting in a daze. "Oh my god, Estelle’s ghost has manifested! I knew you were murdered!"

Estelle was speechless once again. She was losing her grip on the window frame. "Just pull me up already!"

Liam suddenly snapped back to reality. "Oh, right."

He grabbed Estelle’s wrist to help her climb inside, briefly wondering why a ghost would still need to use the window. But then, he felt the warmth of her skin.

Liam’s eyes bulged. "Huh?"

He thought, "Holy crap, she has body heat! She’s alive!"

Still stunned, Liam asked, "Did you come back from the dead?"

Estelle was quiet for a moment before asking, "Is it possible that I just never died in the first place?"

Liam froze, falling silent for a moment before it finally clicked. What his aunt had said was true! Estelle wasn’t dead!

But... if Estelle was still alive, why was the Sloan family throwing a funeral for her? Liam’s face suddenly paled as a terrifying speculation surfaced in his mind.

"Your ’death’ was Theodore’s doing, but the Sloan family played a part in it too?"

Estelle let out a soft chuckle. "Probably."

Knowing this wasn’t the time for idle chatter, Liam asked, "What do you need me to do?"

Considering Estelle was supposed to be a dead woman, she must have gone through immense trouble to find him.

Estelle nodded, her expression turning serious.

"Theodore brought me out to attend my own funeral. Whether it’s the Sloan family’s hypocrisy or the rumors of my death, as long as I show up, everything will be resolved.

"However, he has been keeping a very close eye on me, so..."

Liam had a sudden epiphany. "So, in order to lower Theodore’s guard, you need to go back in a bit. Then, I’ll help you escape so you can make an appearance at the funeral?"

Estelle was speechless. She looked at him in disbelief. "Where am I right now?"

"My room," Liam answered without hesitation.

"So haven’t I already escaped?" Estelle asked.

Liam nodded. "Right..."

"Then why would I go back?" Estelle raised an eyebrow slightly. "Even if Theodore discovers that I’m missing right now, what can he do? Can he find me? Even if he guesses what I’m planning, does he have the guts to abruptly cancel this funeral?"

If Theodore realized she was gone, he could only take a gamble—betting that she wouldn’t have the capability to cause a stir at the funeral. But in reality, Theodore wouldn’t notice a thing. He was simply far too arrogant. The more arrogant a person was, the more overconfident they became. The possibility of Estelle escaping simply wasn’t within his realm of consideration.

Estelle continued, "But I do need a favor from you."

"Tell me, just say the word," Liam urged.

"When the funeral starts later, you need to play along with the Sloan family. If someone praises them once, you praise them ten times.

"If they claim they’ve exhausted themselves organizing my funeral, you agree with them and exaggerate it even further. If they say Laura has been weeping day and night over my death, unable to sleep, you agree with that too."

Liam’s eyes lit up. "Oh... I get it."

The more they hyped up the Sloan family now, the harder it would be for the Sloans to explain themselves once Estelle finally appeared.

The crowd would surely think, "The person isn’t even dead, yet you’re throwing a funeral for her?"
