Mommy, Daddy Has Already Regretted It
Chapter 475: Oh~ Come In
Chapter 475: Chapter 475: Oh~ Come In
And the root cause of the Yeats family’s ungenerous behavior was Claire and Old Mrs. Yeats. Old Mrs. Yeats was Quentin’s elder. No matter how dissatisfied he was as a junior, he couldn’t scold her in front of outsiders. But Claire...
Quentin nodded. "Please suit yourself, Young Mr. Kendrick."
Henry Kendrick’s lips curled up as he looked at the CEO. "Come in."
The bystanders, reading the room, quickly noticed what was special about this man—he had just been insulting Claire! Although his insults were tactful—just a couple of passive-aggressive remarks—they worked! Thus, one by one, they all began to follow suit.
"I don’t know where Claire gets the nerve. The Yeats family’s home isn’t even her home, yet she really acts like she’s the master of the house."
"Exactly. Old Mr. Rhodes and Mr. Summers both came for Miss Lockwood’s birthday, but she actually thought they were her guests. Oh my, it’s hilarious just talking about it."
"And that so-called celebration banquet? Winning that award was three years ago! Doesn’t she find it ridiculous to host a celebration for it now?"
"She clearly wanted to compete with Miss Lockwood and set up a rival stage, but she lost so terribly. If I were her, I’d be too embarrassed to show my face!"
The Tidal Pavilion was right opposite, and these people were speaking so loudly that Claire could hear every word crystal clear. Her hands balled into fists, wishing she could march over and kill them all!
Satisfied, Henry met Claire’s murderous gaze and smiled, curling his lips. "Visitors are guests. Today is Estelle’s birthday, and I don’t want to make things too ugly. Wouldn’t you all agree?"
"Yes, yes."
The wealthy businessmen and CEOs wiped their sweat and instructed their assistants to buy birthday gifts as fast as possible. They only breathed a sigh of relief once they stepped into the Tidal Pavilion.
Henry asked with a smile, "Are you happy receiving so many birthday gifts?"
Estelle’s eyes flashed with a sly glint. "Yes, I’m happy."
Thinking of something amusing, Henry blinked mischievously. "Estelle, did you see Claire’s face just now?"
Estelle replied nonchalantly, "I saw it. She looked like she was so angry her soul was about to leave her body."
"It’s best if she leaves in a huff so she won’t disturb your birthday," Henry said. "But even if we invited her, she probably wouldn’t come anyway. It’d be too humiliating."
However, Estelle curled her lips into a smile and shook her head meaningfully. "That’s not necessarily true."
Henry was stunned for a couple of seconds. "...No way? We completely dragged Claire’s pride through the mud today. If she still comes to the Tidal Pavilion, uh... I can only wish her luck..."
Yet, to Henry’s utter surprise, the moment his voice fell, a commotion rang out from not far away. Turning his head, Claire’s distorted, ferocious face fell into his line of sight.
Henry was speechless. He had to admit, it was a little terrifying.
Estelle raised an eyebrow at Henry, her expression practically screaming, *See? I told you so.*
Henry remained silent. Indeed, Estelle had quite a talent for reading people.
"Estelle." Claire’s smile was stiff, her lips twitching as she forcefully suppressed her fury and indignation, trying her best to soften her tone. "It wasn’t convenient for me to come over just now. Now that my guests have left and the banquet is over, it’s time for me to celebrate your birthday with you!"
Henry fell silent once more. This woman really knew how to swallow her pride when needed.
Old Mrs. Yeats scoffed with a long face, "Your birthday is quite a grand affair, even grander than my own birthday celebrations. As expected of the eldest young lady that the old man went through so much trouble to bring back. Fine, I’m still your grandmother, after all. I’ve come to celebrate your birthday, so don’t ever say I treated you poorly in the future."
The bystanders curled their lips in disdain. How did Old Mrs. Yeats have the nerve to say that? How could they, the guests, not be completely aware of what had actually gone down at the Seaview Tower? They had originally intended to slap Estelle’s face but failed, thoroughly embarrassing themselves instead. And now, they were eagerly cozying up to her. The problem wasn’t even them trying to cozy up—it was their attitude. Were they acting like Estelle owed them something?
Third Uncle Yeats also hurriedly chimed in, "Oh, Claire was just worried you’d be too lonely hosting a banquet all by yourself. She was afraid no one would come, which is why she wanted to hold it with you. We didn’t expect you to have so many connections! Haha, you absolutely mustn’t misunderstand Claire!"
Listening to this nonsense that wouldn’t even fool a three-year-old, Estelle let out a soft laugh.
Claire sighed softly, her eyes brimming with tears, as if she had suffered a monumental grievance.
"Estelle, I’m truly sorry. I did know your birthday banquet was at the Seaview Tower, and I was genuinely afraid no one would come to celebrate with you, so I resorted to such a drastic measure...
"But I never expected the boss of the Seaview Tower to be so greedy and snobbish. Just to curry favor with me... he actually kicked you out.
"I’m sorry. I’m so, so sorry. I only found out about this today. Estelle, can you forgive me?"
The entrance of the Tidal Pavilion fell silent. The crowd was utterly dumbfounded.
Liam Sloan’s head was full of question marks. He instinctively looked at Nathaniel Sloan and whispered, "...Is she really this shameless?"
Nathaniel gave him a faint glance, his dark eyes cold. He scoffed at Claire, then turned his head back. "Yes."
Liam nodded slowly. "It feels like everyone here keeps hitting new lows."
Claire’s face flushed red, then turned pale. If her teacher hadn’t just called and instructed her to do something... she would never have come over here to invite ridicule!
But Liam hadn’t expected someone even more shameless. Old Mrs. Yeats sneered coldly, her gaze filled with contempt and disdain, as if she were looking at trash.
"Claire just had good intentions! She was worried you wouldn’t have any guests, but she was also afraid your pride was too strong to accept her kindness, which is why she went to such lengths! Do you have any idea how exhausted we are from organizing your banquet? Are you still not going to let us in?"
Liam was stunned. Wait, what did you just say? Say that again??
Third Aunt Yeats hurriedly slapped her thigh in distress. "Oh! My daughter meant so well! She was just worried that you’d be all alone without any companions after returning to the Yeats family, so she wanted to help you. Sigh..."
The doorway remained dead silent; no one dared to speak. After all, saying anything right now would be inappropriate. On a smaller scale, this was their family business. On a larger scale, even if it wasn’t family business, they couldn’t afford to offend Old Mrs. Yeats, the highly-connected Estelle, or Nathaniel.
Estelle looked calmly at Claire for a while, staring so intently that Claire bit her lip. Finally, Estelle chuckled softly and said nonchalantly, "Since you said you’re guests here to celebrate my birthday, how could I shut my guests out?"
She nodded faintly. "Come in."
Claire’s eyes flickered. She hadn’t expected Estelle to fall for it so quickly. She probably had no idea what kind of surprise was waiting for her next, did she?
...
Claire entered the Tidal Pavilion and acted as if she were genuinely there to celebrate Estelle’s birthday. She sat in a corner the entire time, showing no intention of stealing the spotlight. Third Uncle Yeats and Third Aunt Yeats also sat quietly, and even Old Mrs. Yeats didn’t utter a single word.
