Mom's Back. The Villain Triplets Are in Trouble.
Chapter 181 - 180: Su Yi
Chapter 181: Chapter 180: Su Yi
Huo Xingye drove. Gu Qingyin was nestled in the back, leaning against Huo Yunjing, feeling drowsy.
Huo Yunjing carefully shifted, trying to make her more comfortable.
Half an hour later, the car arrived at the entrance of the temple on the mountaintop.
Huo Xingye turned off the engine and got out. He looked up and saw a man and a woman at the temple entrance. The man had a travel backpack on, and they looked like they were waiting for a car. But waiting for a ride at a temple gate was just too strange.
’It can’t be this much of a coincidence, can it?’ At that thought, Huo Xingye glanced back at their car.
Just then, Gu Qingyin and Huo Yunjing got out of the car. When they saw the people at the entrance, they both raised an eyebrow.
Seeing their reaction, Huo Xingye understood. These were the people they were here to find.
"Get in," Huo Xingye said calmly. "We can talk on the road."
Song Qiweng and Yuan Shuyi exchanged a look, then glanced down the mountain, uncertain if these were the people the abbot had said could help them. The problem was, the three of them didn’t look anything like Heavenly Masters.
"Let’s get a move on. Once we solve your problem, we need to get back home and sleep," Gu Qingyin said, unable to stifle a yawn.
Only then did Song Qiweng and Yuan Shuyi walk over. "We’re sorry to have troubled you to come all this way."
Gu Qingyin smiled, her attitude exceptionally friendly. "You get what you pay for. It’s all part of the job." She looked at Yuan Shuyi. "Sorry to make you squeeze in the back with us."
Yuan Shuyi shook her head, got in the car and sat down by the right-side door.
Gu Qingyin sat in the middle, with Huo Yunjing by the left door.
After everyone buckled their seatbelts, Huo Xingye started the car and drove down the mountain.
As they drove away from the temple, Song Qiweng, in the passenger seat, felt a growing chill on his back. He reflexively reached up to touch the back of his neck, only for his fingers to brush against a lock of damp, slick hair.
Song Qiweng jolted upright, his face a mask of terror.
Huo Xingye shot him a look. "Stay seated," he said in a low voice.
Song Qiweng swallowed nervously again and again, his voice holding a faint tremble. "Hey, man... is there something behind me? Like a doll or something?"
Huo Xingye glanced over. There was nothing behind him but the standard headrest.
"There’s nothing there. You..." Huo Xingye trailed off.
Song Qiweng wouldn’t ask a question like that for no reason. He must have felt something.
Huo Xingye’s Adam’s apple bobbed, but he said nothing more.
In the back, Yuan Shuyi realized what was happening. Her face went white, and she instinctively tried to shrink away, but in the confined space of the car, where could she possibly go?
Gu Qingyin patted her hand, signaling her not to be afraid, but her eyes were fixed on the passenger seat.
"...You can see me."
An ethereal, cold female voice, audible only to Gu Qingyin and Huo Yunjing, filled the car.
Gu Qingyin offered a faint smile. "A pleasure to meet you. And you are?"
The female ghost, draped over Song Qiweng’s back with her head twisted around to face the rear seats, froze for a second. She tilted her head, as if puzzled why this person wasn’t afraid of her.
After two seconds of silence, she said, "My name is Su Yi."
Gu Qingyin raised an eyebrow. "Shuyi, Su Yi... your names sound kind of similar."
"What Su Yi?" Song Qiweng whipped his head around. "Who are you talking to?"
Gu Qingyin offered some sincere advice. "It’s better if you don’t ask. Just turn around and sit tight."
Song Qiweng stared at her for two seconds before stiffly turning back around.
Yuan Shuyi stared at the back of Song Qiweng’s head, lost in thought as her eyes began to redden.
No one spoke after that. Su Yi remained motionless on Song Qiweng’s back, appearing surprisingly docile.
The car drove into the city and entered the underground garage of an upper-middle-class apartment complex.
Everyone got out of the car in silence, took the elevator, and entered Song Qiweng and Yuan Shuyi’s home.
Once inside, Su Yi finally detached herself from Song Qiweng. She floated over to the sofa and plopped down with a practiced ease.
Gu Qingyin watched, her expression unreadable.
Song Qiweng set his backpack on the floor by the wall, and Yuan Shuyi brought out slippers for her three guests.
They all took seats on the living room sofa.
Gu Qingyin noticed that Song Qiweng sat down right next to Su Yi, not too close, but not too far. As if it were second nature, Su Yi stretched her legs out and draped them over his.
To her, the scene looked exactly like a cuddly, lovey-dovey couple. But Song Qiweng couldn’t even see Su Yi. How did he end up sitting in that exact spot by pure chance?
After thinking it over, Gu Qingyin could only chalk it up to habit.
Su Yi was used to lounging there, and Song Qiweng was used to sitting beside her. Yuan Shuyi, on the other hand, while sitting next to Song Qiweng, kept a noticeable, un-intimate distance.
It was obvious that Yuan Shuyi wasn’t used to being close to Song Qiweng, and he didn’t seem to notice anything amiss.
This, too, was a kind of habit. Of course, it was also possible they were just being reserved in front of guests.
But one thing was certain: Su Yi and Song Qiweng definitely knew each other and must have lived together for a long time.
At this thought, Gu Qingyin frowned. Back in the car, when she had mentioned Su Yi’s name, Song Qiweng had reacted as if he didn’t know her at all.
She looked up at Song Qiweng. "You have amnesia?"
Song Qiweng froze for a second before nodding. "Yes. I was in a pretty bad car accident six months ago. I hit my head and forgot everything that happened before."
At this, his gaze fell on Yuan Shuyi, his expression softening. "It’s all thanks to Shuyi for sticking by my side. She even helped me recover a lot of my childhood memories, but I still can’t remember the last few years."
Song Qiweng said guiltily, "I even forgot how we fell in love."
Yuan Shuyi forced a smile. "It’s okay. We have the rest of our lives. This time, you just have to make sure you remember everything. You can’t forget again."
Song Qiweng smiled gently and nodded.
All this time, Su Yi had been quiet, but now she suddenly exploded.
"Lies! She’s lying!" Su Yi pounced on Song Qiweng, shouting in his ear, "She’s not your girlfriend! She’s lying to you! Don’t believe her!"
Song Qiweng couldn’t hear her voice, but he could feel the cold radiating from her. He froze, not daring to move, his expression pleading as he looked at Gu Qingyin and the others.
Gu Qingyin sighed, rising and walking over to Song Qiweng. She raised her hand and held it just above his shoulder—and just above Su Yi’s head.
Su Yi didn’t dare move. She had a gut feeling that if she so much as twitched, she’d find her head separated from her body.
Gu Qingyin didn’t look at the ghost, but kept her eyes on Song Qiweng. "You have no memory of Su Yi at all? After you woke up from the accident, did no one ever mention her to you?"
Song Qiweng looked bewildered. He shook his head, then instinctively turned to Yuan Shuyi. "Do I know a Su Yi?"
Yuan Shuyi instinctively shook her head, about to deny it. But when she met Song Qiweng’s lost, confused eyes, she suddenly couldn’t bring herself to do it and looked away.
Sometimes, when you tell a lie enough times, it starts to become its own truth.
"Shuyi?" Song Qiweng’s eyes widened in shock. "I really know a Su Yi? A girl? What was she to me? Why... why would you all hide this from me?"
