Chapter 283: Chapter 282: Resort Opening
Her body hadn’t had a proper meal in a very long time, so Huo Yunjing only prepared some congee, and he didn’t dare make it too thick. Even so, Gu Qingyin could only finish half a bowl before she was full.
Huo Yunjing’s eyes filled with heartache as he comforted her. "It’s okay. You’ll get better, little by little."
Gu Qingyin smiled and nodded. She leaned against the headboard and chatted with them for a bit before growing tired and falling asleep again.
Huo Xinghai didn’t make it to the hospital until after ten that night. He tiptoed in, afraid of disturbing his mother’s rest.
On the way over, he had already gotten an update on his mom’s condition from Huo Xingye and Huo Xingchen. Seeing her now put his mind at ease, so he wasn’t in a rush to speak with her.
Huo Xingye and Huo Xingchen had already gone home, leaving only Huo Yunjing in the hospital room. He let Huo Xinghai stand by his mother’s bedside for a while before saying softly, "There’s a bed in the next room. Go get some sleep."
Huo Xinghai nodded. He turned and hugged his father. "Thank you, Dad." ’Thank you for bringing Mom back.’
A vein throbbed on Huo Yunjing’s temple. "I’m not old."
Huo Xinghai couldn’t help but laugh. "Right. You don’t look much older than me." He released his hug. "Get some rest. Don’t stay up too late."
As he watched Huo Xinghai leave the room, Huo Yunjing shook his head with a smile. "That rascal."
When Gu Qingyin woke up the next day, she felt significantly more energetic. The most noticeable change was a feeling of intense hunger.
Fortunately, Huo Yunjing had already gone and made food to bring over—though not from their villa, of course.
Huo Xingye had bought a condo in a complex near the hospital yesterday and had it cleaned up overnight. It was now pristine, so cooking wasn’t an issue.
It was congee again, but she ate more than the day before, and this time it was served with a few small side dishes.
After eating her fill, Gu Qingyin felt much more comfortable all over. And then... she felt sleepy again.
She forced herself to stay awake and chat with Huo Xinghai for a bit. Noticing her lack of energy, he lowered his voice, and before long, he had lulled her to sleep.
When she next opened her eyes, it was already evening.
Between eating and sleeping, supported by a deep well of Spiritual Power and the aura constantly emanating from the Divine Artifact, Gu Qingyin recovered at a remarkable pace.
The doctors had predicted a full recovery would take three to five months, but in just over a month, Gu Qingyin’s checkup results came back completely normal.
The doctors found it incredible, almost wanting to pull Gu Qingyin back for more tests. However, this hospital was owned by the Huo Family. Unless they wanted to be fired, no one dared to openly express their curiosity about her.
On the day Gu Qingyin was discharged, her whole family came to get her—even Gugu and Mao Mao tagged along.
Gugu had visited three times during her month-long stay in the hospital.
During the first visit, Gu Qingyin had been genuinely surprised. The child was growing up so fast! It had been just over a year, but he was already taller, and he had lost so much of his baby fat that his chin now had a defined point.
With tear-reddened eyes, Gugu had thrown himself into her arms, crying his heart out. Anyone watching would have thought he was being bullied, but he just really missed his grandma.
Gu Qingyin had to console him for a long time and even promise to never get sick again—she had no choice; the boy insisted.
As for Mao Mao, its anxiety only lasted a few days. Through their spiritual connection, it sensed that she had just gone to a place it couldn’t follow, so it stopped worrying so much.
So, when they saw each other again, its happiness was pure and simple, completely free of worry.
At the time, Gu Qingyin had grabbed Mao Mao, ruffling its fur affectionately as she laughingly scolded, "You little ingrate."
It was clearly her contracted spirit beast, yet now it trotted after Gugu all day long, as if it had acknowledged a new master. Even though she was the one who had given the order... Tsk, she couldn’t help but feel a little jealous.
When they arrived home, Aunt Hua had the household staff lined up at the gate to welcome her back, even setting off a pair of confetti cannons.
Inside the villa, everything was sparkling and festive, decorated with lanterns and streamers as if for the New Year. There was even a large cake.
Gu Qingyin didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. "Isn’t this a bit much?"
"A joyous occasion like this must be celebrated properly," Hua Xin said with a gentle smile. "I made the cake myself, so you must have a big slice."
Gu Qingyin smiled, thanked her, and gave Hua Xin a hug. "I’m sorry for making you worry."
Hua Xin’s eyes reddened slightly as she patted Gu Qingyin’s back. "As long as you’re all right."
After the lively celebration, Gu Qingyin found a moment to go upstairs and see her master. She told him about the Gu Ziqian from the other world, and it was only then that she learned the full story from him.
The other Gu Ziqian had come over because of an accident that occurred while they were trying to eliminate the Candle Dragon.
Speaking of which, Gu Qingyin couldn’t help but ask, "Has there been any news about Xian Yu Fei and the Candle Dragon?"
At the mention of those two, Gu Ziqian’s gaze turned cold. "They’re in deep hiding. The entire Mystical World has a warrant out for them with an absurdly high bounty, but there hasn’t been a single lead."
"Did they flee the country again?" Gu Qingyin asked with a frown.
Gu Ziqian shook his head. "The Rote Family put out a bounty as well, but they haven’t heard anything either."
Gu Qingyin raised an eyebrow. "Chad Rotter?"
Gu Ziqian nodded. "He may be a foreigner, but he knows how to repay a debt of gratitude."
Gu Qingyin pondered for a few seconds before suddenly suggesting, "Is it possible they escaped to another dimension?"
"If that’s the case, finding them would be next to impossible," Gu Ziqian sighed. "We can only wait for them to reveal themselves."
"That’s fine," Gu Qingyin said with a smile. "We’ll just be ready for them when they walk right into our trap."
After the welcome party, life returned to its normal rhythm. Everyone went back to their jobs and their usual assignments.
Gu Qingyin and Huo Yunjing were hardly idle, either. When they weren’t cultivating, they were researching ways to deal with the Candle Dragon.
Their first choice was naturally Arrays. Her experience in the parallel world had shown Gu Qingyin just how powerful they could be. And while she still wasn’t fond of them, that didn’t stop her from using them.
After spending a little over a week upgrading and reinforcing the Array at the old family home, Gu Qingyin received a party invitation from Huo Xingye.
Gu Qingyin was surprised. "What party? Why the sudden invitation for me?"
"Remember that resort?" Huo Xingye asked with a smile. "The one in your name that you had me manage? Construction finished two months ago, and the grand opening is in three days. As the owner, you have to be there for the ribbon-cutting."
It dawned on Gu Qingyin. "I’d completely forgotten about it." She waved the invitation in her hand and glanced teasingly at Huo Yunjing. "Can I bring a plus-one?"
Huo Yunjing chuckled.
Huo Xingye couldn’t suppress a grin either. "Of course you can."
Gu Qingyin nodded, satisfied. "Then it’s settled. We’ll treat it like a vacation."
The resort was a long way from Yun City, so they took a flight that very evening, arriving at their destination around noon the next day.
By then, some of the other guests—those with plenty of time and money—had already arrived as well.
As the owner, Gu Qingyin naturally had her own private villa. It was a rustic, log-style cabin nestled by the mountains and water, with enormous floor-to-ceiling windows and a terrace that offered a spectacular view.
Gu Qingyin fell in love with the place the moment she stepped inside and decided on the spot to extend her stay by a few days.
She never expected, however, that an accident would occur at the resort before the grand opening ceremony even had a chance to begin.
