Chapter 289: Chapter 288: A Must-See

Gu Qingyin finished her meal at a leisurely pace, put on a thick coat, and went with Huo Yunjing to the VIP area where the Song Family was staying.

Three people from the Song Family had arrived in total. Despite it being the middle of the night, they were all dressed in suits, their hair slicked back with pomade, and their faces full of vigor. Anyone who didn’t know better would think they had just woken up refreshed, not just gotten off a long-haul flight.

The man in the lead looked a bit like Song Chengyun. He was most likely one of his two older brothers. A man and a woman followed behind him, probably his assistants.

Manager Wang led Gu Qingyin and Huo Yunjing in from outside. The man on the sofa didn’t even shift his gaze. The two assistants behind him followed his lead, their faces full of arrogance.

A vein throbbed on Manager Wang’s temple. He forced a smile and reminded them in a measured tone, "Mr. Song, Mrs. Huo has arrived."

Song Cheng’an acted as if he hadn’t heard, taking off his glasses and starting to wipe them.

Gu Qingyin wasn’t about to indulge him. She sat right down on a nearby sofa. And, yes, she made sure to pull Huo Yunjing down with her.

The couple squeezed onto a single armchair, a clear display of their intimacy.

"I find the matter concerning Song Chengyun deeply regrettable. However, this incident has also had a negative impact on our resort. I hope Mr. Song can provide us with an explanation," Gu Qingyin said with a solemn expression, giving no hint that she was turning the tables on him.

Song Cheng’an’s movements paused. He finally put on the glasses he had been wiping over and over again and spoke with a smile that didn’t reach his eyes. "My brother had an accident on your territory, and Mrs. Huo is demanding an explanation from me?"

Gu Qingyin’s smile was flawless. "I heard that Third Young Master Song was quite the flamboyant player. It’s not impossible he offended someone he shouldn’t have, and they found the perfect opportunity to make a move." She sighed. "We’re just innocent victims in all this. Otherwise, with so many guests, why was he the only one to meet with disaster?"

Manager Wang nodded to himself. The more he listened to Mrs. Huo, the more sense she seemed to make.

The smile on Song Cheng’an’s face faltered. He wasn’t particularly grieved by his third brother’s death; he had come on this trip mainly to squeeze some benefits out of the Huo Family. He hadn’t expected that after putting on airs for just a moment, he would completely lose the upper hand.

He took a deep breath. "My brother may not have had much ability, but he knew his limits. He was clearer than anyone about who he could and could not afford to offend." Otherwise, they wouldn’t have indulged him for so many years.

Gu Qingyin raised an eyebrow. "That’s strange, then. How did he manage to provoke a Heavenly Master? It couldn’t be someone hired by one of your rivals, could it?"

Song Cheng’an remained expressionless. "If we’re speculating, wouldn’t it be more likely that it was an enemy of the Huo Family?"

Gu Qingyin hummed in agreement. "An enemy of our family, who curses your family instead of ours. When they’re found out, they’ll not only have to face our retaliation but also endure the Song Family’s revenge. How clever of them."

Song Cheng’an: ...He felt like he was about to be convinced. ’Could it really be an external enemy of the Song Family?’

He pinched the bridge of his nose, feeling a little out of his depth. He knew they wouldn’t get anywhere tonight; he would just be led around by the nose by this woman. He sighed inwardly and said, "I want to go see my brother. We can discuss everything else after we meet the Heavenly Master tomorrow."

Gu Qingyin, having won a resounding victory, rose to her feet feeling refreshed and invigorated. "Alright, then we won’t disturb you any longer. If you have any issues, feel free to contact Manager Wang."

After seeing Gu Qingyin off, Song Cheng’an followed Manager Wang to see Song Chengyun.

At first glance, Song Cheng’an didn’t recognize him. Only after a closer look did he realize that this bloodless figure did indeed resemble his younger brother.

In a daze, he recalled the last time he had seen Song Chengyun a few days ago. The little fool had been smiling radiantly, full of anticipation for this trip to Huaxia.

Who would have thought that a rare trip abroad would end with them being separated by death forever?

Song Cheng’an’s expression turned cold and grim. "Don’t worry. Your second brother will definitely find the real killer and get revenge for you." He paused, his tone growing more solemn. "No matter who it is."

Manager Wang glanced at him impassively, but inwardly, he was rolling his eyes. ’Who is he putting on this show for?’ Outwardly, however, he adopted a serious expression and said, "We will certainly cooperate fully."

The next morning, Liu Ergou found out that the people from the Song Family had arrived, but he was in no hurry to meet them. He waited for Miao Yan to return, and they went to find Gu Qingyin first.

"I’ve identified the female ghost. Her name is Zhao Xiaowei, a sales associate at a jewelry counter. She’s been missing for several days," Miao Yan said. "I looked into her social connections. She has no ties to either the Song Family or any Heavenly Masters. It seems like she was just unluckily chosen to be the ’Human Ink’."

The so-called "ink," of course, refers to blood. Judging by the curse runes on the wall of Song Chengyun’s bedroom, the amount used was far from small.

When too much blood is drawn, a person naturally dies.

Gu Qingyin frowned, her disgust for the killer growing. "When she wakes up, get the full story from her. Then see if she has any unfinished business. Once that’s taken care of, we can help her pass on properly."

Miao Yan acknowledged her and continued, "Zhao Xiaowei’s family had previously reported her missing to the police. I sent them an anonymous tip last night, so her body should have been recovered by now."

Gu Qingyin nodded and stood up. "Let’s go. We’ll head over to the Song Family’s side and consolidate our information."

A night had passed. Song Cheng’an must have found something out by now, too.

To make things official, the meeting today was deliberately moved to the resort’s conference room.

The two parties sat on opposite sides of a long, rectangular conference table. After introducing themselves, they got down to business.

As the host, Miao Yan summarized the clues they had gathered so far and gave a brief presentation.

Song Cheng’an and his people listened quietly to the end, but after he finished, Song Cheng’an let out a sharp "Ha!" and said, "Are you kidding me?"

Miao Yan frowned, a hint of disdain in his expression. "I never joke with strangers."

"Then what is this? You can’t find the killer, so you blame it on ghosts and spirits? Is this the Huo Family’s attitude toward solving problems?" Song Cheng’an’s expression grew uglier as he spoke. "Are you playing us for fools?!"

Gu Qingyin blinked, a little thrown off.

’As a top chaebol from Country H, do they really have zero understanding of the hidden world? Back in our country, the existence of ghosts and Heavenly Masters is practically an open secret among the rich and powerful!’

"You guys really don’t know?" Miao Yan caught on as well, eyeing them suspiciously. "You’re not messing with me, are you?"

A vein pulsed wildly on Song Cheng’an’s temple. Suppressing his anger, he nodded. "Fine. Since you say my brother’s... soul..." He gave a sarcastic smirk as he said the word, "...has been collected by you, can you let me see him now?"

Miao Yan hesitated, offering a kind warning, "Are you sure? His current appearance is very different from when he was alive. It’s a bit frightening."

Hearing this, however, Song Cheng’an thought Miao Yan was bluffing out of guilt. He immediately straightened his back and nodded with absolute certainty. "I’m sure. Right now, I want to see my brother’s soul!"

"Sigh." Miao Yan sighed. "If you insist, then fine."

With that, he picked up the remote for the curtains from the table. With a BEEP, the conference room was gradually enveloped in darkness.

Song Cheng’an’s heart skipped a beat. He was suddenly overcome with a bad feeling.
