Monsters Die When Killed
Chapter 643: Dragon Slayer
Chapter 643: Chapter 8: Dragon Slayer
A tendency to reminisce is a hallmark of old age. Even with a face younger than his years, Zhou Buyi was, in truth, an old man. He was immersed in memories of the past. “It’s just that I, the one who survived, have a small regret… In the end, they can’t see this world of Taiping that I can.”
As he came out of his reverie, Zhou Buyi raised his head to look at Su Zhou. A small, gratified smile touched his lips. “Thankfully, you are still alive, Young Hero Su. This means the fruits of all our efforts have at least a second witness.”
“Then, is there anything I can do to help? I’m not good at many things, but when it comes to vanquishing demons and purging evil, that is my field of expertise.”
Su Zhou asked calmly, Spiritual Light flashing in his eyes as he stared at the man before him. “You can tell me everything. Now that I’m here, I don’t mind taking action. When it comes to Evil People… one can never get tired of killing them.”
The office fell silent for a moment. Then, Zhou Buyi slowly shook his head. “No.”
He spoke slowly, his tone firm. “The Tianzheng Alliance may have significant underlying issues, but it is quite stable at present… Besides, why would we need you to intervene in matters we can resolve ourselves? There is no longer a Demon Dynasty or a Demon Emperor in this world.”
“…Is that so.”
Su Zhou was silent for another moment.
After a moment, he spoke again. “Zhou Buyi, I have a favor to ask.”
“What is it?” The man sounded puzzled, even a little wary.
“Take a picture with me.”
The Divine Wood World had not developed camera technology, as they had crystal recordings and mirror-image preservation. Still, a word like “group photo” was self-explanatory, and Zhou Buyi understood it quickly. He rubbed his beardless chin and smiled. “What’s so difficult about that? Why is that a favor to ask?”
Hearing Zhou Buyi’s reply, Su Zhou turned his head. He looked at Shao Qiming for a moment, then said, “Qiming, help me take a picture with him!”
“…What’s going on? How come even in an Otherworld, I still get this feeling that I’m the useless one… Azhou, did you really bring me here just to take pictures for everyone?”
Muttering to himself, Shao Qiming, despite his complaints, moved quickly. He raised his wrist, and the camera on his proxy personal terminal aimed at Su Zhou and Zhou Buyi, who were already standing together.
CLICK. The photo was taken. The two men stood smiling in front of the desk—one dashing and heroic, the other dignified and handsome.
“It’s about time to get going. As the director, they say I’m busy, but I’m actually quite idle. After working for so many years without a break, it’s time to give myself a few days off…”
Then, just as Zhou Buyi was about to call for a Flying Airship to show Su Zhou and Shao Qiming around, Su Zhou reached out a hand and stopped him.
“Young Hero Su, what…?”
Zhou Buyi paused, slightly taken aback and confused by Su Zhou’s gesture.
But the young man only narrowed his eyes in silence, gazing at him. Within his cyan-purple Dragon Pupils, flames of black and white burned, leaving the other man stunned.
But it seemed to be a minor illusion. The feeling of being stunned vanished as quickly as it appeared. The flames of sin flickered and died without igniting anything.
“Let me tell you a simple little story.”
Withdrawing the black and white flames, Su Zhou’s expression eased a little, but his tone remained somewhat cold. “In the mountains, there was an Evil Dragon. It exploited the mountain folk, devoured lives, and its evil was so great that Heroes from all over the world came to slay it.”
“Of course, how could an ordinary Hero stand against the might of the Evil Dragon? The vast majority of Heroes became food in the Evil Dragon’s belly. Their weapons and treasures also became the Evil Dragon’s property. For a time, it even seemed as if the Evil Dragon would rule the entire world.”
“But in the end, the most powerful Hero, one who could contend with the Evil Dragon, appeared. He finally slew the Evil Dragon, pacified the chaotic world, and became the last Dragon Slayer, and…”
—grew Dragon Scale.
Zhou Buyi was no fool. Hearing this, he already understood the unspoken meaning of that last sentence.
‘Just when did you start to change, Zhou Buyi?’ Though Su Zhou hadn’t spoken the words aloud, his meaning was unmistakable.
In response, the man first frowned, then took a few steps back and sighed.
“Young Hero Su, I understand what you mean. There’s no need for such veiled insinuations.”
In an instant, the entire office was filled with the auras of the two Commander Tier Powerhouses. Had he not been sitting, Shao Qiming would have been forced several steps back by the sudden clash of Spiritual Pressure. Even so, he frowned from his chair, feeling a sense of discomfort.
And Zhou Buyi’s tone became calm. “So? What is it you’re really trying to say, Su Zhou?”
“There is no ‘so.’ And what I want to say is very simple.”
Releasing a sliver of his power to shield Shao Qiming, Su Zhou clasped his hands behind his back, showing absolutely no intention of fighting. He ignored Shao Qiming’s frantic gestures from the side and stated bluntly, “I have only one question—Zhou Buyi, when did you start to specialize in Wood Element Internal Power, and even use it to reach the Celestial Spirit Martial God Realm?”
For a moment, the entire office fell into complete silence.
But the silence was soon broken by the sound of laughter.
“When? Naturally, it was when I realized that all the Spiritual Qi in this world had been corrupted by the Divine Wood, and that the entire world was about to turn into the Celestial Wood Land.”
Letting out a soft laugh, Zhou Buyi also clasped his hands behind his back, showing no signs of preparing for battle.
