Chapter 254: Chapter 251: A Chance Encounter, Su Qinghe’s Nervousness
Gu Yifan opened his car door and walked over to his dad’s car window.
"Son, go check on that guy. See if he needs help."
Gu Jiaguo said.
"Okay!"
Gu Yifan nodded and walked over to the man in sunglasses.
"Hello, is your... car broken down?"
He asked.
"Yeah, my car suddenly broke down. It won’t start!"
The man in sunglasses said with an embarrassed look, "And my phone just fell into a ditch and broke... Sorry, but could I possibly borrow your phone? I need to call a tow truck."
Gu Yifan was slightly taken aback by what the man said.
’This... this guy’s luck is really terrible!’
But Gu Yifan didn’t think he looked like he was lying, so he nodded and said, "Yeah, no problem."
After speaking, he took his phone out of his pocket and handed it to him...
After taking the phone, the man in sunglasses quickly called his assistant.
Then he handed the phone back to Gu Yifan with a grateful expression.
"Thanks, man. I’m really grateful!"
The man in sunglasses said, putting his hands together in a gesture of thanks.
He was truly grateful to Gu Yifan. He had been waving for help for so long, but only Gu Yifan was willing to stop and help. Everyone else had ignored him, probably afraid he was a scammer, especially since the area was so desolate.
Gu Yifan saw that he was covered in sweat and looked exhausted. After all, it was the middle of the day, and the October sun was incredibly harsh.
So he went back to his car, grabbed a bottle of water, and handed it to him.
"It’s too hot. Have some water. Be careful not to get heatstroke!"
Gu Yifan said.
"Thank you!"
The man in sunglasses reached out and took the water Gu Yifan offered. After they chatted for a few more moments, Gu Yifan’s phone rang.
"I travel north, leaving the season of you..."
Hearing the ringtone, the man in sunglasses froze, then gave him a deep look.
But since he was wearing sunglasses, Gu Yifan didn’t see his strange expression.
Gu Yifan took out his phone and glanced at it, seeing it was an unknown number.
’It’s probably for the guy in front of me.’
So he handed the phone to him and said, "It’s probably for you."
"Oh, oh, thanks!"
Without hesitating, the man in sunglasses took the phone and answered the call.
Sure enough!
The call was from the roadside assistance team. After confirming the exact address again, he handed the phone back to Gu Yifan and thanked him once more, "Thanks, man. Sorry for all the trouble!"
"It’s no problem. It was nothing."
Gu Yifan waved his hand, not minding at all.
After chatting a bit more, Gu Yifan said, "Well, I’ve still got things to do, so we should get going."
"Okay, okay. Hey man, give me your number. When I get a chance, I’ll treat you to a meal."
The man in sunglasses said after a moment of thought.
"That’s alright, no need to be so formal. It was really nothing."
"If we’re fated to meet again, then we’ll see each other!"
Gu Yifan refused without hesitation. After all, they were just strangers who had met by chance. You never know who you’re dealing with, so it was better to be cautious when you’re away from home.
"Er..."
Seeing Gu Yifan’s refusal, the man in sunglasses was taken aback for a second, but he quickly recovered.
He wasn’t angry. Thinking about it, he realized his request had been a bit sudden. He nodded and smiled slightly, "Alright then. See you around, if fate wills it!"
Seeing this, Gu Yifan didn’t say anything more. He gave a nod, went back to let his dad know, then got into his own car, started the engine, and drove off.
The man in sunglasses, however, stood there lost in thought as he watched the two cars disappear into the distance.
Once Gu Yifan’s car was completely out of sight, he silently turned, went back to his own car to get a notebook, and wrote down Gu Yifan’s license plate number.
Meanwhile, Gu Yifan was now following his dad’s car again, continuing on the way to his maternal grandmother’s house.
"Why was that guy wearing sunglasses the whole time?"
Su Qinghe asked quietly after a moment’s hesitation.
Gu Yifan thought about it. It was true. Now that he thought about it, the man had seemed a bit familiar.
Then he shook his head and said, "Maybe he forgot to take them off, or maybe there was some other reason. It doesn’t matter. We were just strangers passing by. We probably won’t ever see him again, so don’t worry about it."
"Oh, okay."
Hearing this, Su Qinghe nodded and didn’t dwell on the matter.
After all, it was just a small incident on the road. What she needed to think about now was what to do when they arrived at Gu Yifan’s grandmother’s house.
Honestly, she was extremely anxious. With her slightly socially anxious personality, this was exactly the kind of situation she feared the most...
Gu Yifan also noticed Su Qinghe’s uneasiness.
He glanced over at her, guessing that this silly girl was probably getting a little nervous.
So, he steered with one hand and used his free hand to gently take her soft one.
"Hm?"
Su Qinghe froze for a moment.
She turned to look at Gu Yifan and asked in a small voice, "Wh-what is it?"
"Well... Su Hanhan, are you nervous?"
Gu Yifan asked.
"Ah?"
"W-well... a little."
Su Qinghe nodded and said quietly.
’Just as I thought!’
Seeing Su Qinghe nod, Gu Yifan understood immediately.
"Hah!"
"You don’t need to be nervous. My grandma and all my relatives are really nice people. They won’t give you a hard time."
"Besides, you’re so pretty and cute, they’ll be too busy liking you!"
"And anyway, I’ll be there, right? Don’t worry, no one will dare to bully you."
Gu Yifan smiled slightly and comforted her.
Feeling the warmth from his palm and listening to his words, Su Qinghe, though still a bit nervous, felt much better than before.
"Mhm."
She nodded lightly, her mood relaxing a little.
* * *
As the car sped along, they soon left the paved asphalt road, and a country lane came into view.
Sunlight shone down on the country path. The rice in the fields swayed in the wind, as if welcoming a wanderer returning home.
On the quiet country path, sunlight pierced through the clouds, casting rays on the bluestone-paved walkway. In the distance, an old Western-style house sat beside a field of green rice paddies.
"Su Hanhan, that’s my grandma’s house up ahead!"
Gu Yifan pointed to the old Western-style house in the distance and turned to Su Qinghe with a smile.
As the car drew closer, the nervousness that had subsided in Su Qinghe began to rise once more...
