Chapter 1610 - 1597: Wherever I Look, It’s Everlasting—Big Brother Says You’re Not Feeling Well

This morning’s breakfast was somewhat late because we were taking care of Emily Zimmerman’s family.

At the dining table, Lorelei Howard and her husband were still enthusiastic, as was Joseph Lancaster, while Joseph’s face remained cold and indifferent.

Violet Zimmerman didn’t come for breakfast, pretending to be unwell, and Daxton Lancaster didn’t force her. Before coming over, he specifically called the old master’s room, instructing the chef to prepare a special meal for Violet.

After breakfast, Daxton personally drove and took Augustus Zimmerman and his wife to the station with his brother. Lorelei Howard brought Emily Zimmerman back to her place, growing increasingly fond of her new daughter-in-law.

Seeing both sons in the main house settled with partners, Eva Hayes couldn’t help but feel envious again. Upon returning home, she began to scold her two sons, "Michael, Gabriel, what’s the matter with you two? Even Joseph, that bookworm, has a girlfriend, yet you two are always out running around with sales and haven’t even gotten yourselves a girlfriend!"

Gabriel Lancaster seemed helpless, "Mom, why are you so anxious? Joseph is already twenty-two, while my brother and I are younger. Besides, with our Lancaster Family’s status, shouldn’t we be picky when choosing a partner?"

Eva Hayes shot her son a dissatisfied look and said stubbornly, "I understand your reasoning, but I still feel uneasy! The girl’s father is just an office director, yet look how the main house boasts about it, acting like they’re so high and mighty!"

Then she turned to her sons, "In the future, you two need to find wives who are leaders too. Our family can’t let the main house outshine us!"

Daxton Lancaster was meticulous, buying plenty of snacks at the station for Augustus Zimmerman and his wife to eat on the bus.

It’s not far from F City to T City, just a two-hour bus ride. Only after watching the bus with Augustus Zimmerman leave the station did the two brothers depart. Inside the Red Flag car, Joseph Lancaster finally had the chance to speak to his elder brother Daxton Lancaster alone.

"Big brother, why didn’t you inform me in advance about such an important matter?"

"Why? Are you dissatisfied with this engagement?" Daxton Lancaster glanced over briefly and continued without waiting for Joseph’s answer.

"Joseph, you’re not young anymore; it’s time for you to date. Emily Zimmerman was your college classmate. You both should have things in common, and her family background is decent, suitable for our Lancaster Family."

"Big brother, I don’t want to start dating so early. I’ve only just entered society."

"These two things don’t conflict, starting a family and a career shouldn’t interfere with each other." Daxton Lancaster said nonchalantly, "You two should date for a period and see. If you don’t get along, I’ll find someone new for you."

What Daxton Lancaster said was reasonable, and Joseph couldn’t find a reason to argue. It seemed he could only compromise for now, waiting for the right moment to find an excuse.

Joseph Lancaster got off halfway and waited until his brother Daxton’s car drove away before boarding a bus.

Originally, Lorelei Howard planned to take Emily Zimmerman to the department store in the afternoon. Suddenly she remembered Emily hadn’t brought any toiletries, so she called the driver to prepare to head to the department store to buy her some daily essentials.

The car passed by Violet Zimmerman’s residence, where Violet was sitting under the big willow tree in the courtyard feeding rabbits.

Lorelei Howard instructed the driver to stop, rolled down the window, and asked with a smile, "Violet, Emily and I are going to the department store. Do you need anything? I’ll bring it back for you."

Violet Zimmerman smiled, "No need, Mom. I don’t need anything."

"Okay then, don’t sit outside too long. Rest more in bed."

Lorelei Howard gently reminded her, but as Violet watched the car leave, she felt a bit lonely.

Married for over a year, her mother-in-law had never taken her to the department store. As a daughter-in-law, she inevitably compared herself.

Pulling her gaze back, Violet continued feeding her rabbits, and a few minutes later, the car returned.

Hearing the engine, Violet looked up, puzzled. She thought her mother-in-law had changed her mind, maybe intending to take her along to the department store.

The passenger door opened, and a man in a white shirt stepped out, carrying a bag of fruit, approaching Violet directly.

"Joseph? Why are you back? Didn’t you go to work?"

"Big brother said you were unwell this morning, so I bought some fruit and brought it for you."

Standing in front of Violet, Joseph Lancaster’s eyes held emotions she couldn’t comprehend, as he handed over a package, "Here’s a freshly cooked chicken leg, eat it while it’s hot."

Violet gulped as she reached for the chicken leg, saying, "Mom took your girlfriend to the department store."

Violet had not realized how aggrieved she sounded when she said that.

A hint of a smile appeared on Joseph’s face, "Want to go?"

Violet said nothing, merely opened the package to look, not in a hurry to eat.

Joseph saw through her small thoughts, extending his free hand, "Come, go inside and change clothes."

Violet...

Looked up puzzled, "Why change clothes?"

"I’m taking you to the movies."

Violet Zimmerman and Joseph Lancaster sat in the back seat, with Joseph’s driver from his company in front.

Violet held the chicken leg, and Joseph thoughtfully brought her an insulated water cup.

"What movie are you taking me to see?" Violet asked curiously, gnawing on the chicken leg.

Joseph had been busy with work; he didn’t have as much free time as before.

"Not sure, whatever’s playing at the cinema, we’ll watch."

"Oh." Violet continued gnawing, suddenly remembering something, she glanced warily at the driver and then leaned closer to Joseph to whisper.

"If Daxton finds out, he’ll be mad. I don’t want to go."

Joseph mimicked her, raising a hand to shield his lips and whispered in her ear. "No worries, we won’t tell big brother, he won’t find out."

Violet felt anxious, bored of staying home all day, yet worried Daxton might get upset if she went out.

"I don’t want to go anymore, take me back please."

Joseph nonchalantly eyed the driver, speaking in a normal tone, "Big brother sent me to fetch you."

He knew what Violet was worried about, deliberately saying this.

They arrived at the cinema just in time, with under twenty minutes before the movie started, though most tickets were sold, only a few seats remaining in the last rows.

Joseph told his driver to return to the company and come to pick them up after the movie.

At the vendor, Joseph bought some sunflower seeds and guided Violet into the cinema with the crowd.

Their seats were in the second-to-last row. Violet hadn’t rested well the night before and had just eaten chicken, so she started feeling sleepy not even ten minutes into the movie. Leaning into the chair, when Joseph pulled her over, she didn’t even notice.

Throughout the movie, Violet slept on Joseph’s shoulder while Joseph watched the screen, his mind elsewhere.
