Mr. CEO's Substitute Bride
Chapter 1695 - 1669: Wherever the Gaze Falls, There Will Be Everlasting Love—You’d Better Not Play Tricks with Me
Following behind Daxton Lancaster on the stairs, Violet Zimmerman felt a bit uneasy.
Although Daxton was chatting with the little guy all the way, Violet could tell he wasn’t in a good mood.
The doctor said she had a cold constitution, making her chances of conception lower than ordinary women... otherwise, the mother-in-law wouldn’t be so unhappy, complaining all the way back.
Walking into the room, Daxton sat on the sofa holding his son, and Violet carefully stood in front of him.
Ever since Robert asked "Dad" for snacks that day, almost every day after work, Daxton would bring something tasty for his son, but today he hurried back and didn’t have time to buy anything.
Not seeing any snacks, Robert relentlessly searched Daxton’s suit pockets, frowning and muttering, "Where’s my snack? Where’s Robert’s snack?"
The little guy’s serious search was quite adorable, and Daxton lifted his son up gently, saying, "Son, today Dad came back in a hurry and didn’t buy it for Robert, I’ll buy it tomorrow, okay?"
The little guy stared at Daxton, blinking incomprehensibly, and after a while, he seemed to understand his words, then pouted in grievance.
A child’s tears come quickly, and his eyes reddened.
"Snack, Robert wants a snack..."
Violet knew Daxton had something to say to her, so to avoid their son interrupting, she turned to the dressing table, pulled open a drawer, and took out two candies prepared for her son.
"Robert, don’t cry, look, Dad bought candies for Robert."
Seeing the milk candies, the little guy immediately grinned, tears coming and going quickly, happily clapping his hands, "Candy~"
With candy in hand, the little guy stopped crying and sat obediently on Daxton’s lap, playing with the candy wrapper.
"Violet, what did the doctor say? Didn’t they say why we haven’t conceived?" Daxton turned to his wife sitting behind him.
Violet’s hands kept rubbing her knees, not daring to look Daxton in the eye.
"The doctor said... that I have a cold constitution, and my chances of getting pregnant are lower than normal."
"Nothing else?" Daxton stared intently at Violet’s face, seemingly unwilling to miss a single expression.
Violet shook her head, "No,"
"Then why hasn’t your period come?"
"The doctor said it might be due to stress, advised me to take some herbal medicine, and it would get better."
Daxton looked down, raising his hand to stroke his son’s little head, he said blandly, "Understood."
Violet turned around, understood? What does that mean? Should they continue in the future or not?
As she was confused, she heard Daxton continue, "After dinner, call Joseph, ask him to come over, I’ll be home, the servants won’t think much."
...
At eight in the evening, Robert Lancaster was already asleep on time, and Violet took out the pacifier her son was holding, pulling down her lapel.
On the bed, Daxton leaned against the headboard reading a newspaper, and Violet, while buttoning her shirt, tentatively asked, "Should I call Joseph now?"
"Yeah." Daxton responded indifferently, his cool face not showing extra emotions.
"Then... if Joseph asks if you’re home, what should I say?"
"Just say I stepped out to take a call."
Violet took a deep breath silently, got off the bed hesitantly, and behind her, Daxton’s phoenix eyes fell on her, pondering something unknown.
...
In less than ten minutes, Joseph Lancaster arrived, bringing with him a small bag of White Rabbit candies.
"Sister-in-law, did big brother ask me over for something?" Joseph thought it was really his big brother Daxton looking for him, without thinking too much.
Violet took a secret glance at Ms. Zhang who was closing the door, "I’m not sure either, Daxton is waiting for you upstairs."
"Oh," Joseph handed over the small bag of White Rabbits, "keep it for Robert, don’t eat too much, just give him a few each day, eating too much will cause cavities."
"Oh, thank you." Violet accepted the small bag of milk candies, her heart felt warm, her brother-in-law always brought snacks for her son, even though it wasn’t much, it showed he thought of her son.
"Why be polite between us?" Joseph smiled, it was just a casual remark, but it made Violet’s ears burn.
Placing the White Rabbits on the coffee table, "Let’s go, don’t keep your big brother waiting."
Joseph followed Violet up the stairs, seeing her heading directly towards the guest room, furrowing his brow in confusion, "Didn’t you say..."
Instinctively, Violet glanced toward the master bedroom, "Keep your voice down, Robert just fell asleep, don’t wake him."
As she said this, Joseph immediately understood, softening his steps as he followed Violet inside, quietly asking, "Why not go to my place?"
