Linia’s POV

Four months prior. The intersection between Red Dragon’s Lower Jaw and Shiron Kingdom. Originally she and Pursena were terrified after being sent to a foreign place; however, they realized that people are afraid of their grandfather and became arrogant.

At the peak of their arrogance, they picked a fight with a young man for not obeying them. The plan was that Linia would catch his attention while Pursena used howling, and with the opponent stunned, they would gang up on him.

That was the plan. And it had worked, at least up until the point where howling had stunned the opponent. But not a single attack had worked on him.

“Ah. Right. Voice magic. I never saw Ghislaine using it before, so I forgot it even exists."

What was he shitting about? Somehow, Linia’s intuition was telling her it wasn’t good.

“I think I can do something similar. Hold on, let me try.”

With Linia and Pursena constantly attacking him, the man, unmoved and unharmed, opened his mouth.

[Roar]

A loud and terrifying roar like that of a beast came from his mouth. Linia’s knees buckled the moment she heard it. It wasn’t howling. It was more like the sound of a dragon roaring. She needs to move. She had to move. She had to run. Or else she'd—

“Oops. Whatever. Where were we?”

Linia’s eyes met the young man’s gaze. Deep, glaring purple eyes stared back at her. Die. She was going to die.

“… Uh… Guys?”

“Kya! Don’t eat me! We’ll do anything! You can do whatever you want to Linia!”

“Right, mew! You could—Hey!"

A moment of silence passed as they watched the man wash their pee-soaked panties. And one way or another, they got themselves enslaved to the boss. Well, Linia heard it was called a contract or something.

Pursena’s POV

“… So, after seeing the impaled animal skull flag, you immediately jumped in the cave side.”

“…”

“IGNORING why the flag was there, not noticing the intersection, you got ambushed by goblins and nearly got yourselves violated. Did I leave anything out?”

“It was Linia! She’d gotten excited trying to end the mission and jumped in!”

“Hey, meow! You were the one; you said that the boss would be happy if—"

SIT.

The two plop down on the floor of the throne room of the goblin cave. Blood stained every part of the floor, and heads were rolling all around their vicinity. It was a massacre, one so fast and terrifying that the fear of goblins didn’t even linger.

In front of them was not a goblin king but the one who smashed through the ceiling and instantly reaped all the heads off the goblins. It was the demon king—ah, no. It was their violent and scary boss. He was just so scary that he looked like Pursena’s imagination of a demon king.

Despite the light of the afternoon shining upon their heads from the hole above, the vicinity of the throne did not have a shred of light entering. With darkness exerting pressure and evil black tentacles flowing around, the boss stared down at them from the throne.

Silence ensued. Then the boss started to say really strange things.

“Ah. Right. Medieval education. Tribal at that too. Hah. That explains a lot… Speaking of… How old are you?”

“Ah... Uhm… Ten, sir.”

“Right. I see.”

Ever since that point onwards, the boss has been giving them this weird-looking stare that feels insulting. The boss got a lot less violent and was willing to accept their individual flaws while planning to ensure problems would never occur.

… They talked a lot about the boss’s bad side, but the boss had a lot of good sides. And by that she meant a LOT. Sure, the boss was naggy at times, and there were times when Linia’s idiocy rubbed him the wrong way, resulting in him telling her, "Because I said so."

Seeing the boss's black tentacles flying around and decapitating monsters was terrifying, but at most he’d smack them on the butt for causing trouble. But he didn’t abuse them, harass them, or do anything inappropriate; he didn’t even bother them in their free time.

The boss wasn’t a fool. He was anything but a fool. He was someone who was willing to listen to others' ideas, question possibilities, and calculate risks. He was also someone who was both daring and dependable, willing to jump into danger to save them if necessary.

Linia might not have known, but he had been secretly interfering and watching over them during quests at first, and only after feeling like they wouldn’t die easily did he leave them with protective magic circles, healing circles, and such.

And he taught them a lot too, from writing and algorithms to silent magic. Especially the last one, it could be said he had shared something very valuable with them. And then there’s that incident as well.

Linia, unable to handle having to work all day every day, decided to cause trouble for the boss. Pursena was coerced into it as well. So that night when they saw no light coming out of his room, they sneakily entered.

It was earlier than usual, but it’s probably just the boss getting more tired than usual. The plan was Linia throwing a book at him, and they ran away… Except the lights weren’t turned off, and the boss had only veiled the room with his black mana.

“Can I help you with something?”

“Ah. Um… Boss?"

After staring at them squirming around like idiots, the boss suddenly said a line that confused them.

“Did you want to hear a bedtime story or something?”

“Eh?”

He pointed at the book Linia was holding. It happened to be one of the books Jerome read to his younger sister every night.

"Right, you girls are kids too. Lie down."

After surviving with that as an alibi, they ended up on his bed.

“Ah. Damn, this was a first. Where do we begin? Alright. How about the princess and the frog?”

“???”

And so the two kids lay there beholden to the sparkling mana show dancing on the air as they changed colors and their boss’s mimicry of voices as he told the tale. After that, a few more heads poked into the room, and more than ten kids slept in his room that night.

All in all, Pursena liked the boss, and Linia was the same. He was both a good leader and a strong, reliable leader. If they had to consider him as a potential mate, then it’s likely that there aren’t many who could be better, whether in looks, competence, or his other softer aspects.

The boss especially has a soft spot for cute things. He coddles cute girls… Well, he coddles anything that’s cute. She could get out of most trouble by acting cute. If she whined a bit, he would indulge in her gluttony with food while patting her and calling her a good girl.

“Well, he puts plenty of good stuff in my mouth, so no complaints there. Right, Linia?”

“Yup. As long as you are obedient, the boss won’t get violent, and he’d even coddle you, mew.”

He’s probably bringing chicken drumsticks for dinner tonight. Pursena drooled over the thought. Right. She was such a good girl for taking care of this maroon-haired girl maid. Surely, the boss would feed her lots of yummy chicken drumsticks.

Pursena thought as she stared at the tiny maid. Her expression was a bit strange. Was she also thinking of yummy food? But those are Pursena’s… No. Considering it’s the boss, he would simply buy more for everyone.

Ehehe… Just thinking about the boss feeding her yummy food while patting her head and calling her a good girl makes her wag her tail.
