Chapter 829: Chapter 814: That’s Not Me

Link.

When the Demon King shouted this name, most of the Imperial Soldiers below didn’t react right away; that former Hero who’d long since died was far too distant from their lives.

But not everyone had forgotten this name.

Darean’s gaze was locked on the figure walking out from the ruins of the city wall; the outline in his memories overlapped with the young man before him, and his scarlet pupils trembled violently.

Then he suddenly swung his hand, and a massive tide of blood surged up from beneath his feet, spreading out horizontally between him and the Demon King.

Facing Link, this Blood Race Prince’s first instinct was defense.

Down below, the amnesiac Hero had to think for quite a while before he finally remembered that Link was his own name.

Long time no see?

That Slime Man up there with the Demon King Title knows me?

His curiosity about his own past kept Link from attacking the first moment; instead he looked back, puzzled.

Seeing him silent, the Demon King lightly patted Darean on the shoulder; the blood tide parted, and the Demon King dropped from the sky, landing right in front of Link.

He had no guard up at all; instead he looked like an old friend finally reunited, that hastily adjusted face even wearing a hint of delight.

"Since you’ve already revived, everything is in place."

"Last time, a God overstepped the rules and made a move, and was bitten back by the Ark. Now what means remain to Them are limited and not worth worrying about."

"There are still a few little problems They left behind, but with your help, this time, no one will be able to stand in our way."

"Next, all we need to do is kill every intelligent living being when the next harvest phase arrives."

As he spoke, the Demon King extended his hand toward his partner standing before him.

Link looked at that outstretched hand, hesitated for two seconds, and just as the Demon King began to feel a bit confused, Link reached out and gripped it—the touch was soft and jelly‑like.

As their hands clasped, Link suddenly asked, "Kill... all living beings?"

Hearing this question, the Demon King frowned slightly, but still tried to persuade him: "I know doing this feels bad, but only this way can we achieve our goal."

Link’s extended hand suddenly tightened its grip.

"What goal? Destroying the world?"

The Demon King finally sensed something was wrong: "Link, what’s the matter with you? Don’t tell me your memories..."

Before he could finish, a tremendous force came through their joined hands.

Link gave a brutal yank, and the Demon King’s right hand, along with most of the arm, was ripped straight off; viscous slime laced with Magic Power starlight splattered in all directions.

The Demon King clutched his severed arm and staggered back; in that instant he thought of a possibility.

"Don’t tell me you... made a wish? You made a wish again, didn’t you! After I was sealed! Link, you stu—"

His answer was the club that Link flashed in front of him!

The jelly body was completely smashed, exploding from where he stood as the center, slime fanning out and splashing far away.

"Lord Demon King!"

Everything happened too fast; only now did Darean cry out in alarm. The blood tide rolled down from his side as he dove from on high, a scarlet flood wrapped around him, crashing down toward Link.

Link stood where he was and swung his club into the blood tide.

The staff’s shaft swept across, and under the boost of immense force, it cleaved that surging blood tide cleanly in half, the blood droplets exploding into red mist in midair.

Only when he truly crossed blows with Link did Darean clearly grasp just what kind of monster he was facing.

Facing that swinging Magic Staff, a ridiculous sense of helplessness surged up in his heart.

Thud—!

The Magic Staff landed on his shoulder; he grunted, but didn’t get knocked flying the way he’d imagined.

This top‑tier Magic Staff he’d picked up from Seren had endured far more force along the way than any staff ever should; no matter how good the material of the shaft was, it had finally reached its end.

The instant it touched Darean, the Magic Staff broke apart into a skyful of wooden splinters, the dust plastering Darean’s face.

Darean’s face lit with wild joy; Link’s weapon was broken, his guard wide open before him, and he could see this fleeting opening!

Darean clenched his teeth, a Blood Blade condensing from his palm as he thrust straight at Link’s face. And then his hand ran into Link’s incoming headbutt.

A dull impact sounded from his arm, a sound no normal flesh and blood should make; before he even felt pain, Link spun and kicked him hard in the stomach, blasting him back into the ranks of the Imperial Army behind him and throwing everything into chaos.

"Wait, Link."

Link turned toward the voice; the Demon King, splattered all over the ground, had already re‑coalesced his body. After casually killing a Puki lurking in the shadows that was trying to touch him, he raised a hand to signal for a pause.

"I already understand that you’ve lost your memory, but that’s fine. Once you watch this, you’ll understand everything." As the Demon King spoke, his fingers formed an Array in front of him, slicing open a tiny spatial Rift, from which he took out a Memory Crystal.

However, Link was utterly unmoved.

"I don’t know what deal I had with you in the past, but that doesn’t matter. That was the Link of the past, not me!" Saying so, he glanced back at Oath City, burning behind him. "You’re bringing death and sin, and I’m going to stop you. It’s that simple."

"As for what happened before..." Link casually picked up the Longsword Darean had dropped from the ground, the blade pointing at the Demon King. "Once I’ve beaten you until you can’t resist, I’ll figure it out then. No rush."

Hearing Link’s words, the Demon King’s body couldn’t help but tremble.

Not from fear, but from rage.

"You’re doing it again... Link, you reckless brute!"

The next second, Link blurred into an afterimage and charged straight at the Demon King, while the Demon King extended countless pseudopods and unleashed dozens of spells.

The roar of Magic never stopped as the two fought from ground to sky; every collision blasted out a shockwave, rubble lifted into the air, the ground spider‑webbing with cracks. The soldiers around them couldn’t see their figures at all, only hear a rapid barrage of explosions and catch the occasional spray of slime that flew out and then snapped back.

The Demon King was getting pummeled nonstop.

Although Link now had no memories, no past combat experience, and the Titles he’d once carried had vanished with his death, how much better off was the Demon King?

Two portions of his Power were still sealed even now, and his soul had been wounded twice by Lin Jun and had yet to recover.

Compared like this, the Demon King’s disadvantage was actually greater.

Darean tried several times to help the Demon King, but only managed to worsen his own injuries.

As for the Imperial Soldiers, their eyes couldn’t even track Link’s speed, much less land their ordinary attacks on him; against a monster of Link’s level, they were utterly powerless.

However, after his initial flare of anger, the Demon King had calmed down.

Though Link held the advantage, he lacked experience; with no specially prepared counters, he couldn’t inflict truly serious damage on the Demon King, who could still cope.

The ones that genuinely threatened him were instead the masses of shadows underground—every last one of them Puki waiting to rip apart his soul.

Although, up to now, he’d perfectly neutralized every Puki ambush, things couldn’t go on like this.

He looked at Link, rampaging like a berserk bull—he had to find a way to change venues and talk.

First the Demon King sent out a wave that lifted the soil from the ground, flinging it up along with the Puki lurking in the shadows clinging to it; then he deliberately exposed a glaring opening, which promptly drew an inexperienced Link into swinging a sword at him.

The next instant, the Demon King actually voluntarily shed his humanoid form, wrapping around Link like a Slime devouring prey, dodging the attack as he coiled over him. At the same time, beneath the two of them, a temporary Teleportation Array flared into being.

However, the Demon King had overlooked that Oath City still held another Hero, even if she was the weakest and least threatening of them all!

On the far edge of Oath City, at the very limit range of even the Demon King’s Perception.

Sofia’s Eye of the Star floated high in the sky, taking in everything happening over there.

After observing for a long time, she finally found that single chance to act.

Sofia drew her bowstring back to the limit, her last Golden Arrow aimed at the distant battlefield.

"De! Mon! King!"

A line of tears flowed down her face as the Arrow left the string, turning into a streak of golden light that crossed the entire ruined city, reaching the Demon King in an instant.

The window for this shot was gone in a heartbeat; no one could, in such a brief span and across such distance, coordinate with it—no one but Lin Jun, with his global view.

Of the two Puki that had been blasted back by the recoil, one detonated in Self‑Destruction, blowing the other half‑to‑pieces and shoving it back toward them, its tentacles stretching toward the Demon King on Link’s body.
