My Apocalypse System Awakened Five Years Early
Chapter 67: Familiar Voice But Unexpected Encounter
The night passed, and before the sunlight could paint the Golden City, Klaus and Clyde returned.
Klaus immediately took a taxi to his house; his five daily tasks got completed, but he still had to do five more, and it was yet another day when he didn’t have the time for that.
But he wasn’t worried about that, as he knew once he fulfilled his plans, he would have more than enough time, power, and influence to do anything.
He threw off his mask, hat, and clothes as he quickly freshened up and had breakfast before calling Trina.
He had the phone close to his ear as he waited for her to pick it up, and it was in a few moments.
<Hello?>
But the voice wasn’t of Trina... and it wasn’t unfamiliar either.
Klaus’s eyes turned wide, and he mumbled in disbelief, "Sarin...?"
<How do you kn... wait, that voice... Klaus? Is that you, Klaus? Why do you have Trina’s number, and why are you calling her so early... Don’t tell me...>
’Shit, shit, shit. Code red! Code red!’ He panicked.
"W-Wait! There’s nothing like that between us; she is just someone who works for me," he muttered with a troubled expression, his free hand already on his head.
<She works for you? What do you mean... Ah. I forgot to ask something: where are you right now?>
’Why do you wanna know, you crazy woman?!’ Klaus gulped and answered as a sweat drop rolled down his face, "I am at my house."
<What house? I already checked the hidden cameras of the house that I gave to you, and you haven’t come to that place for over three years now.>
He lowered his phone and mumbled, "Did she just agree to spying on me?"
[She did.]
"I swear this woman has some issue in her head."
<Did you say something?> The voice was louder and darker.
He took a deep breath, and his eyes sharpened as he answered, "Did you forget the call we had a few weeks after you left for your tour?"
<The call in which you were joking about wanting me to focus on my career and breaking up? Yeah, I do remember that prank—>
"It wasn’t a prank, and you know it," Klaus stated in a heavy tone.
Sarin didn’t say anything for a few seconds, and then her voice came: <I never agreed to leaving you, though.>
Her voice wasn’t weak or sad. Instead, it was sharp, clear, and unmistakably obsessive.
"You know that doesn’t matter," Klaus said, not intending for her to have her way.
<Why don’t we talk face to face? What place do you want me to book?>
He ignored her questions and said, "I am serious, Sarin."
<And you think I am joking? Babe... I won’t let you go. No matter what.>
Klaus’s expression darkened.
That was the reason he had broken up with her; she was far too obsessive and possessive.
Klaus was an ambitious man, and she wanted to keep him in her gilded cage. At first, he allowed it because he was a lovestruck teenager who had been asked by the person admired by every other student.
But once she left... once she took the big step for her own dream of becoming an idol, and when he saw that dream become reality, he understood that he needed to leave the cage, and he did.
What caged him wasn’t the love they had for one another but the way Sarin showed that love.
<Why are you not saying anything?>
Klaus stared at his phone and then said, "Give the phone to Trina."
<We are at a fast food joint, and she is at the counter right now. Why don’t we chat a little more until she comes?>
Klaus closed his eyes and took a deep breath. She really knew how to annoy him.
"I am not in the mood for this, so please hand over the phone to her."
<You just do not want to confront me, but alright, I’ll hand over the phone. Though I am very curious about how close you two actually are? What should I say when giving the phone to her? Hey, your boss is calling! Your friend? Your lover?>
Klaus rubbed his face and muttered, "Stop it."
<Alright, alright. Calm down a little,> she said with a chuckle.
A few moments later, another familiar voice spoke to him, <Hello. I was waiting for you to call me... Hmm? Ah, I work for him. I’ll tell you later, Sarin. Let me talk to him.>
’She really can’t keep herself from still butting in, huh?’ He shook his head and asked Trina, "Are you done creating the plan and list of trainers?"
<I wanted to ask you about it. Should I only do the ones that are taught in the city or all over the world?>
"All over the world, obviously."
<It’s not as obvious as you think, okay?>
"Alright, alright. Is there anything else you want to know or need help with?"
<Nope. I’ll send the plan and the list tomorrow or the day after.>
"Sounds good, bye."
His finger moved to the red hang-up button, and he pressed it as Trina responded in a flustered voice, <H-Huh? That’s all? By—>
He placed his phone on the table, rose from his chair, and rubbed his face.
"I hadn’t expected her to return so early, and from when do these two know one another? They sounded close..."
His expression darkened, and he mumbled under his breath, "She won’t do anything to Trina, right?"
"Nah, there’s no way. Trina is her friend. She maybe a bit obsessive and possessive, but she ain’t batshit crazy..."
He grabbed his head and muttered, "Who am I lying to? She is batshit crazy. Fuck I already have so much to deal with and now this."
"Hah... is my life any different than hell?"
Right then, his untraceable phone ringed.
His brows furrowed, and he checked who was calling him.
"Mercy?" He frowned and picked up the call. "What is it—"
<Boss! This is hell! That kid from the syndicate got caught by a detective called Marcel Levy!>
"...I jinxed myself, huh?"
