Chapter 202: A Death Match!!!
Chapter 202
Elder Ting appeared directly before the Spatial Tear, the terrifying attack being the very same one Li San had intended to use to end the lives of both Shi Gubing and his son, Shi Tian.
The moment Elder Ting appeared, he didn’t say a word, simply raising one hand as a brilliant golden light immediately condensed in midair, rapidly taking the shape of an enormous golden hand that emerged directly before the incoming Spatial Tear and caught the terrifying attack point-blank.
BOOM!
The entire space seemed to tremble as the destructive force of the Spatial Tear surged violently against the golden palm, attempting to tear it apart and continue forward.
But Elder Ting’s expression remained calm and composed, his fingers slowly curling... clasp!... as the golden hand tightened. In the next instant, the terrifying Spatial Tear was completely crushed, the destructive power that had been raging moments ago vanishing as if it had never existed in the first place, and the arena fell into a strange silence.
Elder Ting stood there calmly, his robes fluttering gently in the aftermath, making it look as though nullifying Li San’s terrifying attack had been nothing more than a casual gesture.
But that was far from the truth: it hadn’t been difficult enough to make Elder Ting struggle desperately, but it certainly wasn’t something he could dismiss without putting in any effort.
He had needed to exert quite a considerable amount of strength to suppress the Spatial Tear before concealing the effort he had used and completely crushing it, and that realization only made his assessment of Li San even more solid. Li San was truly powerful... powerful enough that even among experts of the same level, he was undoubtedly an extremely formidable existence.
Elder Ting had already suspected as much, and now, after personally receiving one of Li San’s attacks, that suspicion had been completely confirmed.
Shi Tian’s gaze didn’t change, not even slightly, his expression remaining as cold and emotionless as ever because all of this... was part of the plan.
Shi Tian had known from the very beginning that Elder Ting would never stand by and watch one of the major clans of the Night Region suffer such a loss by allowing both Shi Gubing and Shi Tian to be killed by Li San. The moment Li San’s killing intent erupted, Shi Tian had already expected someone to intervene, so he wasn’t surprised, not even in the slightest.
Li San’s gaze turned dark as he looked at Elder Ting, the anger within him barely being restrained. When he finally spoke, his voice carried the unmistakable tone of a warrior standing at the very edge of his patience: "I am telling you... get out of my way, or else."
The words were simple, but the threat behind them was anything but. Li San’s mind was completely clouded by anger. His expression might still appear composed and calm from the outside, but his mind was anything but: he had failed.
He had failed to protect his cousin... someone he had sworn to protect, someone he had promised to guard with his life... and now that person had almost been killed right before his eyes. How could he simply let that go? How could he possibly stand there calmly after watching Shi Tian attempt to kill Liyu? He couldn’t. There was no way.
Elder Ting could clearly see that Li San was ready to attack again at any moment, and he wasn’t going to allow that to happen. With a slight movement of his hand, a powerful force instantly descended upon Li San, his movements restrained and his body locked firmly in place.
Elder Ting suppressed him completely before turning his attention toward the two people he had just saved, barely paying any attention to Shi Gubing as his gaze fell directly onto Shi Tian.
Throughout everything that had happened, Shi Tian hadn’t lost his composure even once, his face still carrying that same cold, emotionless expression that seemed to say only one thing: everything is under my control.
Elder Ting’s eyes twitched slightly because he didn’t like this kid’s aura, not at all. There was something deeply unsettling about Shi Tian. The boy had just attempted what was essentially an assassination in front of the entire arena, yet even now he showed no fear, no panic, and no regret, simply standing there calm, composed, and unbothered.
Still, before Elder Ting decided what punishment should be handed down to him for breaking the rules, he decided to ask a few questions first, his gaze sharpening: "Why did you do it?" His tone was calm, but beneath that calmness was an unmistakable trace of annoyance.
Breaking the rules right in front of him... just how bold was this kid, or perhaps... how foolish? Elder Ting had personally witnessed everything: Shi Tian had deliberately attacked Liyu with an attack powerful enough to slice him apart, and yet now, after all of that, he still stood there without the slightest sign of remorse.
Shi Tian remained silent for a while, his expression unchanged as if he were carefully considering his answer and trying to come up with something satisfactory enough to explain his actions. After a short while, he finally spoke: "I didn’t try to kill him."
His tone was completely emotionless, with no hesitation, no nervousness, and no attempt to justify himself emotionally, delivered as casually as though he were discussing something completely unrelated. Yet that very tone made Elder Ting slightly uncomfortable as Shi Tian continued: "If I wanted to kill him... I would have drawn my sword."
Elder Ting’s eyes narrowed slightly as Shi Tian continued speaking: "I was only testing the waters. I wanted to see how strong his defenses were. After all, he managed to hold on for quite a while against Haoran while Haoran was in that legendary state."
There was no admiration in his voice, no excitement, no hatred, merely explaining his reasoning: "That is all I did. I wasn’t expecting him to be so fragile and so weak, and that he would be sliced apart so easily."
Elder Ting’s expression became slightly more serious. Shi Tian’s voice remained calm and emotionless from beginning to end as if he were simply stating a collection of facts, and the most troublesome part was... there was no trace of deceit in his voice. None.
If Shi Tian had been lying, then Elder Ting’s treasure... already activated and quietly monitoring the boy... would have picked up on it almost immediately. But it hadn’t.
The treasure had detected nothing, which meant... Shi Tian was telling the truth. He genuinely hadn’t believed that Liyu’s body would be so fragile, and to him, those attacks really had been nothing more than a test.
Elder Ting looked at Shi Tian for a long while, his gaze cold and emotionless, making one genuinely wonder whether the kid had any emotions left inside him at all with no fear, no regret, no guilt, nothing.
After a while, Elder Ting finally released a slow breath before turning his gaze toward Li San, giving him the answer: "The kid is telling the truth. He didn’t mean to try and assassinate Liyu.
And since that wasn’t his intention, I can’t allow you to hurt him anymore, much less try to kill him. As the mediator of this tournament, I have to stop you. If you don’t step down willingly... then I will consider stopping you the hard way."
Li San’s gaze dropped slightly, a small scowl appearing on his face as he glared at Elder Ting, rage burning deep within his eyes, yet his expression didn’t change much: "And you believed that kid’s lie? We all saw it. That was clearly his intention."
Elder Ting slowly shook his head, his tone remaining even: "No. I interrogated him right before you . Trust me, he can’t tell a lie without me catching a glimpse of it. He is telling the truth."
Li San remained silent longer than usual, the reason for his silence being simple: he was certain Elder Ting wasn’t lying to him. The elder had absolutely no reason to lie, which meant... this really had been a mistake, a stupid mistake on Shi Tian’s part that had nearly cost Liyu his life.
But Li San couldn’t simply let it slide because that wouldn’t be fair to Liyu. If someone nearly killed his cousin, regardless of whether it was intentional or an accident, there still had to be consequences, so Li San made another demand:
"Alright. I will spare his life, but he has to forfeit the match. He has already broken the rules and nearly ended up killing someone. He should be chased out of this tournament."
Li San’s voice was absolute, with no hesitation in it, making it more than clear that he wasn’t joking. Whether Shi Tian had made a mistake or not didn’t change the fact that he had launched an attack capable of killing Liyu, and Liyu had almost died because Shi Tian had pushed his attack to such an extreme.
There was no way Li San was simply going to let something like that slide. Never.
Shi Gubing immediately rose to oppose him: "No! There is no way we are allowing that to happen." His gaze hardened as he faced Li San: "It is your candidate who was too reckless and too unobservant to have been wounded like that.
That is absolutely not my son’s fault! You can’t abuse your authority and disqualify my son when it is more than clear that he is far more powerful than your clan heir! If this match were allowed to continue, my son would have won! So don’t try to play any dirty tricks, Clan Lord Li."
His accusation was loud and clear for everyone to hear, accusing Li San of trying to manipulate the tournament and force a disqualification so that Liyu could win by default, which immediately stirred the surrounding crowd.
At the leaders’ seats, Guan Ju also spoke in support of Shi Gubing, because whether Shi Gubing was right or wrong didn’t matter to him...he would support him since the Guan and Shi clans had only one common enemy left, and that enemy was none other than the Li clan.
Li San’s gaze darkened, and he was about to speak and argue against Shi Gubing’s accusation, but before he could say anything... Shi Tian spoke, his voice still cold and emotionless: "Clan Lord Li... I believe you don’t need to fight for Liyu’s sake. He is a grown man. Let him defend himself. Am I not right, Liyu?"
Shi Tian’s gaze locked onto Liyu, and it was only then that everyone noticed something: Liyu had been staring directly at Shi Tian for quite some time, his eyes fixed on him, unmoving and studying him.
Liyu slowly lifted his gaze away from Shi Tian and looked toward his uncle, then toward Elder Ting, and after a moment, finally spoke: "He is right. I let my guard down, but it is also true that he tried to kill me."
A small silence descended upon the arena as everyone waited for what Liyu would say next, and after a moment, Liyu continued: "The match hasn’t been concluded yet, so disqualifying him isn’t reasonable, and it doesn’t follow the procedure of the selection tournament. So... let us have a rematch."
The crowd stirred, but Liyu wasn’t finished: "This time, however, I would like to remove one rule... and add another."
Every gaze immediately turned toward Liyu, trying to understand what exactly he meant. Elder Ting looked at him for a moment before finally nodding: "Alright. Let’s hear it."
Liyu didn’t hesitate: "First of all... the rule about killing not being allowed should be replaced with a rule that killing is allowed."
His words were simple, but the weight behind them was enormous: "And no one will be burdened by it or have it held against them as a crime. In one simple word... I want this next match to be a death match."
The entire arena went silent once more... not the kind of silence that came from anticipation, but the silence of people trying to understand what the hell was wrong with Liyu. A death match? After what had just happened?
After everyone had watched Shi Tian slice him apart? Was this kid insane? Had surviving that attack somehow made him fearless, or had he completely lost his mind? Even the leaders were momentarily stunned, as no one had expected Liyu to make such a demand.
Meanwhile... Shi Tian’s mouth moved slightly, a tiny smile appearing on his lips. It was so faint that almost no one noticed... small, almost imperceptible smile, cold, devoid of warmth, completely lacking any joy, and with his eyes remaining emotionless.
But inside... Shi Tian was satisfied: *He has fallen into my trap.*
