Chapter 422.1: Jin Li's Tenderness

Jin Li instinctively glanced at Qi Yuan, her eyes hardening with resolve. "I wish to renounce my status as Moon Maiden!"

Being a Moon Maiden of the Divine Moon Palace meant that she could never marry. Furthermore, once she stepped into the Yang Spirit realm, she would have to sever all worldly ties. No one understood better than she did what that meant.

Longyue let out a long, quiet sigh.

The rank of Moon Maiden was not something anyone could simply wish for and obtain. The privileges it carried rivaled those of a Yang Spirit. Jin Li’s family enjoyed abundant resources and favours because of it. Without the title of Moon Maiden and the Divine Moon Palace’s backing, her family would lose its resources, and she herself would find it far harder to ever reach the Yang Spirit realm.

Talent alone couldn’t carry someone to the Yang Spirit realm. Among the Sixth Heaven’s countless worlds, prodigies were as numerous as fireflies. Yet even among all those worlds, not a single one could produce a Yang Spirit. Jin Li would pay dearly for renouncing her status. In fact, in the entire history of the Divine Moon Palace, such a thing had happened only once or twice.

Finally, Longyue said, "This is not something I can decide. It must be brought before Lord Moon God. But Lord Moon God is currently in closed-door cultivation and cannot see you. For now, the matter will have to wait. That said, since your merit is already sufficient, Lord Moon God won't make things difficult for you. Until Lord Moon God emerges from seclusion, simply exercise some caution in the meantime."

Having suffered grave injuries, Lord Moon God went into closed-door recovery, with no telling when she would emerge. Longyue's meaning was obvious. Jin Li could renounce her title, but she would have to wait until Lord Moon God returned. Jin Li would have to keep a low profile and spare the Divine Moon Palace some face. Flaunting a marriage was out of the question.

Jin Li bowed gracefully, unable to suppress the joy welling up inside her. "Thank you, Heavenly Venerable."

Qi Yuan seemed to remember something and produced a token. “Could this Moon Token have come from the Divine Moon Palace?”

Once, he had climbed to the summit of the Seven-Colored Peak to seek an audience with his master. She was nowhere to be found. Instead, he chanced upon this Moon Token. According to his eyes, it was Lord Moon God’s token.

He asked earnestly, "My master, Ruan Yixi, gave me this token. It seems to have some connection to the Divine Moon Palace. Senior, has the Divine Moon Palace ever had someone by that name among its ranks?"

Jin Li frowned, lost in thought. She had never expected him to have any connection to the Divine Moon Palace at all.

Longyue’s expression turned grave as she narrowed her eyes. "T-this token belongs to the previous Lord Moon God!"

Qi Yuan was stunned. "The previous one?"

Longyue admitted, "I know very little about the previous Lord Moon God. I have also never heard of the name Ruan Yixi."

Secrets concerning powerhouses of the Major Principle realm, let alone one as great as Lord Moon God, were not something a mere Principle Yang Spirit like herself was privy to.

He appeared somewhat disappointed. "I wonder if I might be granted an audience with Senior Lord Moon God."

He wanted to learn the truth behind Ruan Yixi’s identity and her whereabouts.

Longyue shook her head. "That won't be possible any time soon. However, if it concerns the previous Lord Moon God, you can ask Heavenly Venerable Yuehua."

Yuehua was one of only two Major Principle cultivators in the entire Divine Moon Palace. With Lord Moon God absent, it was Yuehua who had been managing the palace's affairs all along.

Qi Yuan asked curiously, "When can I meet Heavenly Venerable Yuehua?"

A look of reverence crossed Longyue's eyes. "In a while, the Principle Symposium will start. Heavenly Venerable Yuehua will attend as the Divine Moon Palace’s representative. You may meet her then."

The gap between one Yang Spirit and another was equivalent to the gap between a Yang Spirit and a Yin Spirit, especially between the Minor Principle and Major Principle realms. The stronger one grew, the harder it became to climb even a single minor realm. Each step was as difficult as ascending to heaven.

He murmured, "The Principle Symposium, is it?"

It seemed he would have to attend this Principle Symposium after all. Holding Jin Li’s hand, he left the place, taking a leisurely stroll through the grounds of the Divine Moon Palace. Jin Li seemed like such a simple, unassuming girl. Her sharp chill had been replaced by a tender, affectionate warmth.

Along the way, many cultivators were astonished, whispering among themselves.

"Am I seeing things?"

"What am I even looking at?"

"The Moon Maiden is actually holding a man's arm!"

Everyone in the Divine Moon Palace knew that Jin Li was the ice queen who always killed, killed, and killed. None of them had ever seen her in such a maidenly, demure manner. Some cultivators wore looks of envy.

"So it turns out Her Highness the Moon Maiden isn't cold by nature. She's just cold to us."

"That man’s looks really do seem like a perfect match for Her Highness. I wonder who he is, though?"

"Is he even worthy of our Moon Maiden?"

"To have won Her Highness's heart, he must be extraordinary indeed!"
