My Crazy Upgrade System
Chapter 676: Killing the Chicken to Scare the Monkey
After flying down, Yi Tianyun stopped his slaughter. Just when the others thought they could escape, they had barely taken two steps before a sudden chill washed over them. In the next instant, they lost consciousness completely. They had been sliced in two; it was impossible for them to remain aware.
“Did I say you could go?”
Yi Tianyun gazed coolly in their direction. Many of them froze, not daring to flee any further. If they tried, their fate would be the same as the others before them: a slash from the void would instantly cleave them in two.
“I… I’m from the East God Divine Kingdom! I-If you kill me, our Ancestor will…”
“VMM!”
A flash of sword light shot out, cutting the man in two. Blood splattered, dyeing the nearby ground red.
“I’ve said it before: I don’t respond to threats,” Yi Tianyun said calmly. “You’re welcome to have your Ancestor come in person. If anyone can defeat me, I’ll gladly hand over the inheritance.”
They thought that mentioning a Divine Kingdom’s backing would force a compromise, but it was utterly useless.
The onlookers shivered, especially those who were trapped. They were filled with a despair that left them beyond tears. They wanted to slap themselves silly. ‘Why did we make that choice? We must have been out of our minds!’
“THUD!”
Someone dropped to their knees and began to kowtow repeatedly. “My lord, I was wrong! I was just blinded by greed, that’s why I did it… I was only watching from a distance, I never attacked!”
“VMM!”
Another flash of sword light slashed down, cutting the man in two.
“I remember every single one of you. I hardly think the killing intent you aimed at me was a simple case of being ‘blinded by greed.’ Even if it were, that’s still a capital offense. If I were weaker, if I’d truly needed the Ascension Divine Altar to suppress you, wouldn’t I have been utterly doomed?”
Yi Tianyun sneered. “I must say, you’re not even fit to be called idiots. If I had to rely on the Ascension Divine Altar for protection, why would I have come out? Did you really think I’m as stupid as you?”
His words were a wake-up call for many. It wasn’t that Yi Tianyun was the fool; they were the ones whose minds had been clouded by greed, making them think he was. In the end, they realized it wasn’t Yi Tianyun who was the fool—they were the real fools!
“I… I was wrong! I’ll give you all my treasures to spare my life!” a Cultivator cried out, dropping to his knees and pleading for Yi Tianyun’s forgiveness.
“VMM!”
The sword light flashed again, and the man was cut in two.
“If I kill you, won’t all your things be mine anyway?” Yi Tianyun gestured with his hand, and the Storage Rings from the surrounding corpses flew toward him. Instantly, he had a new pile of Treasures.
‘Killing and looting really is the fastest way to get rich.’ He had just emptied his inventory for the Celestial Cloud Empire, and now he already had a new haul. There was very little he found valuable, but more was always better. It couldn’t hurt to keep it all.
Many of the onlookers were speechless. It seemed Yi Tianyun intended to kill every last one of them. Or rather, he planned to kill everyone who had previously shown any killing intent toward him. This was the “price” he had spoken of!
He wasn’t one to repay grievances with virtue; he much preferred this direct method of annihilation. He could show mercy, but there was no guarantee his enemies would be grateful for it.
“I’ll give you plenty of time to call for backup. Go on, take out your Communication Jade Pendants. I welcome any help you can muster.” Yi Tianyun smiled faintly. ‘I was just wondering how to get more Madness Value anyway.’ As long as a Divine King didn’t show up in person, he was confident he could handle anyone they called.
‘This is also a good chance to gauge the strength of the factions in the Celestial Realm and see how it compares to the Netherworld.’
Seeing Yi Tianyun’s fearless attitude left many people speechless. Anyone else would be worried about being hunted down, but he was actually waiting here to be avenged. Was it supreme confidence, or was it just plain arrogance?
Many of those present were Loose Cultivators; what backup could they possibly call? All they could do was tremble in fear, praying that Yi Tianyun wouldn’t kill them.
“It seems you’re not calling for help. In that case, you can all die!” Yi Tianyun pointed a finger, and in an instant, numerous Cultivators within a ten-mile radius were killed. However, the only ones who died were those who had previously radiated killing intent toward him. The others, who had not been blinded by greed, were not attacked.
Yi Tianyun glanced around. The surrounding Cultivators all took several steps back—not because they were pushed by his aura, but because they were terrified.
The representatives from many factions shook their heads. It seemed this prize was not one so easily taken. Even Flowing Light Saint King had been killed with ease. It would take an unbelievably powerful expert to deal with him now.
But such extraordinarily powerful Saint Kings were either in closed-door cultivation or occupied with other matters. Why would they trouble themselves over a junior? More importantly, Yi Tianyun was clearly making an example of these people. Only a blind fool would dare to challenge him now.
Even a Saint King would have to think twice. Whether they could actually suppress Yi Tianyun was a different matter entirely. Who would dare to casually provoke a Saint King Stage expert who possessed the inheritance of the Creation Celestial Divine King?
Who knew if he would unleash a powerful Divine Rune Array or some formidable Martial Arts and suppress them on the spot?
Seeing the terrified expressions on everyone’s faces, Yi Tianyun knew he had achieved his goal. This was exactly the effect he wanted—enough to intimidate everyone and make them realize that obtaining the inheritance was no simple task.
‘Besides, I want to earn a large amount of Madness Value. Since they’re so eager to die, I won’t be polite.’
“No one else? Then I’ll be on my way.” With that, Yi Tianyun took to the air and swiftly departed, leaving a crowd of people staring at one another in stunned silence.
“We must report this to the Sovereign at once…” Zuoqiu Divine Envoy nodded to his companion, and they quickly departed.
He was surrounded by many powerful guards. He was now carrying a precious inheritance, so he certainly needed protection. It wasn’t just Yi Tianyun who had to be cautious; they had to be as well. If someone were to ambush them on their journey, their fate would be grim.
“The heavens are about to shift. The heir of the Creation Celestial Divine King has appeared. I wonder how the other major powers will react?”
“We have to report this immediately. From now on, we must never show him even the slightest disrespect!”
One after another, they all rushed back to report the news. After this incident, Yi Tianyun’s name was bound to resound throughout the Celestial Realm, becoming known to most of the major powers.
This was precisely the effect Yi Tianyun was aiming for. He wanted everyone to know that the heir of the Creation Celestial Divine King had arrived! ‘That way, the heirs of the other Divine Kings should learn of my existence.’
‘Celestial Plum Mountain Range…’
A flicker of light crossed Yi Tianyun’s eyes, and warmth spread through his heart. ‘It’s been over a year since I’ve seen Shi Xueyun. I wonder how she is now. Zuoqiu Divine Envoy offered to take me there, but I refused. I’ll go check on her myself. I don’t need anyone leading the way.’
‘The Divine Runes of the Celestial Plum Mountain Range may be formidable, but can they possibly be stronger than the Divine Runes of the Creation Celestial Divine King?’
