"What business do you two have here?"

As soon as Yi Tianyun and Shi Xueyun approached, a guard fixed his gaze on them, his eyes filled with vigilance.

"We’ve come to visit Yi Xingchen. Is he here?" Shi Xueyun stepped forward to ask.

Yi Xingchen was Yi Tianyun’s biological father.

"Yi Xingchen? Never heard of him!" the guard said, shaking his head.

"Never heard of him?" Shi Xueyun was stunned. She quickly asked, "What about Jiao Linghe, then?"

Jiao Linghe was Yi Tianyun’s mother. Since they didn’t know his father’s name, what about his mother’s?

"Jiao Linghe? Never heard of her! Go on, get out of here. If you don’t have a written order or a token, don’t come loitering around here!" the guard said, waving his hand impatiently and gesturing for them to leave at once.

After being asked about two people they’d never heard of, how could the guards not be on high alert? It felt like these two were either here to cause trouble or had come to the wrong place entirely.

As guards, they couldn’t afford to relax their vigilance. When someone came asking about a couple of unknown names, they had to start shooing them away.
