Chapter 395: Chapter 233: International Security Company (3)

Wang Yan opened the door for him and let him in.

Zhao Hui quickly stood up. "Then eat your fill tonight, Uncle. We can have a few drinks!"

Mrs. Zhao called out from the kitchen, "When you head home tonight, take some of the wild soft-shelled turtle with you!"

His older sister had always taken good care of him, so the uncle didn’t stand on ceremony. Wild soft-shelled turtles were hard to come by these days.

The uncle sat down, glanced at the liquor on the table, and said, "Maotai again? We’re all family here. There’s no need to be so extravagant!"

Mr. Zhao said, "It’s fine, let’s just drink this. We drink it so often that we’re used to it. I can hardly drink anything else now!"

The uncle said sheepishly, "I’ve gotten used to this stuff too. I just can’t bring myself to drink it!"

Zhao Hui had given his uncle two cases of Maotai last time, but he still hadn’t brought himself to open them. He’d heard that a full, sealed case was worth more money.

"Uncle, if you ever want a drink, just come on up and have a few glasses with my dad. It’ll keep him from drinking alone!"

He poured his uncle a drink.

"It’s mostly that our schedules don’t line up."

Zhao Hui didn’t quite understand. Mr. Zhao was home every day now, and his uncle lived just downstairs. How could their schedules not line up?

He only understood after his uncle explained.

It turned out his uncle and aunt had recently found jobs helping with the cleaning at a subway station.

Their shift ran from noon until the subway closed for the night, which was around 10:00 PM.

No wonder he’d rarely seen his uncle, who usually loved to drop by for a chat, lately.

Mr. Zhao asked, "What’s the monthly pay?"

"Take-home is 3,000 a month. At our age, this is all we can do. Other jobs are hard to find. They won’t even hire us as security guards!"

Mr. Zhao shot a look at Zhao Hui but said nothing.

Zhao Hui instantly understood his father’s meaning, and he felt a pang of guilt.

His parents had never mentioned this to him, probably because they were afraid of bothering him or Chen Xiao.

He had been so busy with work lately that he’d completely overlooked his uncle’s situation. If his other uncles hadn’t brought it up during the family banquet, it wouldn’t have even crossed his mind.

He never imagined his uncle was working so hard. The only reason his uncle was here was that Zhao Hui was home and had invited him for dinner; he’d had to take time off work just to come.

Finding his uncle an easier job... He wouldn’t even need to bother Chen Xiao. It would be no trouble at all for him to arrange—a simple, effortless task.

"Uncle, you’ve had it rough."

"Rough? What’s rough about it? The job is a breeze. The subway station is hardly dirty, and I just clean up the occasional mess. Plus, there’s air conditioning inside, so it’s never too hot or too cold!"

Zhao Hui fell silent. ’This is what life is like for people at the bottom,’ he thought. ’If it weren’t for my sister and Chen Xiao, maybe twenty years from now, I’d be just like my uncle—landing a job like this and thinking myself lucky.’

Chen Xiao had essentially given him a second chance at life.

From the day he joined the Yinuo Jiangzhou Branch—or rather, from the day he met Chen Xiao—the old Zhao Hui was gone, replaced by someone reborn.

He silently vowed to throw himself into his career and achieve success. Chen Xiao had already changed his destiny.

Now, through his own efforts, he could realize his own potential and, in turn, change the fates of many others.

"Uncle, if you and Auntie don’t mind the commute, why don’t you come work at Junxiao Square? You can join the logistics and maintenance department. The starting salary is over 10,000 a month for everyone, plus a full benefits package with insurance and a housing fund."

’Over 10,000 a month? With full benefits? What more could I possibly ask for?’

The uncle was so excited he was at a loss for words. This was like money falling from the sky!

With Zhao Hui’s help, the brothers of the Zhao Family were all doing quite well for themselves. In their neighborhood, each of them was now respectfully addressed as "President Zhao."

Take Third Uncle Zhao, for example—the one who’d been a good-for-nothing. Now, even the renowned President Wang from the area would often personally drive over to take him out to try new restaurants or go for tea. It was impossible for his uncle not to feel a twinge of envy.

Otherwise, why would he have complained to Mrs. Zhao behind his back, saying that Zhao Hui didn’t treat his mother’s side of the family well and was playing favorites?

"Ah Hui, thank you... I... I..."

Zhao Hui raised his glass. "Uncle, let’s have a drink!"

"I’ll call President Lin at the Junxiao Square Second Store tomorrow and ask her to arrange everything."

The Junxiao Square Second Store was slightly closer to his uncle’s home. Besides, the rest of the Zhao Family was already working at the first Junxiao Square store, so it made sense to place his uncle at the second one.

The uncle knew Zhao Hui was a vice president at the first Junxiao Square store. Hearing that he was going to call President Lin at the second store, he couldn’t help but ask worriedly, "This President Lin... she won’t refuse, will she?"

Zhao Hui smiled. The company’s internal appointments had already been announced. Zhao Hui had been promoted to Vice President of Junxiao Business Management Company, and Lin Ya had been promoted to Vice President of Junxiao Business Management Company and General Manager of the Hanjiang Region.

At their level, Xu Jun would have naturally clued Lin Ya into the way things worked. Once Lin Ya knew that Zhao Hui was a relative of President Chen, how could she possibly refuse such a small request?

Even without the connection to Chen Xiao, if a vice president of the business management company couldn’t even arrange a simple staff position for someone in a store’s maintenance department, they would be utterly pathetic.

And Zhao Hui was clearly not pathetic. Even Xu Jun had to show him some deference. But Zhao Hui never threw his weight around because of his connection to Chen Xiao. On the contrary, he always treated Xu Jun and his other colleagues with the utmost respect. In return, he had earned Xu Jun’s deep admiration and unwavering support.

"Uncle, you can just wait to start work on Monday. The HR manager from the first Junxiao Square store will contact you tomorrow. Just make sure you get everything settled with your current job."

The uncle happily drained his glass in one gulp. Zhao Hui offered a cigarette to him and to Mr. Zhao, but then he suddenly noticed the look in his father’s eyes.

Zhao Hui looked at him, confused, but then he understood. ’You’ve got everyone else settled, so is your own father just supposed to sit around idle at home?’

He said to Mr. Zhao, "Dad, don’t worry. Once we move to the new place, I’ll get something arranged for you."
