My Dream Connects to 3000 Years in the Future
Chapter 467: Guan Qianyu, the Genetic Revolution
The sun was gradually setting.
It was now the fifth hour since Z’s update.
「Inside a coffee shop.」
Chu Bamboo, having disguised himself, pushed open the door. After scanning his surroundings, he locked onto a table in the corner and walked over.
“Excuse me, this seat is taken…”
“By me,” Chu Bamboo said calmly.
The woman, who had been scrolling on her phone, froze. She looked up, studying Chu Bamboo repeatedly, her face a mixture of shock and uncertainty. “…A Disguise Skill?”
“You could say that,” Chu Bamboo said noncommittally. He looked at the woman opposite him—she wore no makeup, her hair was simply combed, and she was still in a white lab coat. His tone was difficult to read. “Miss Guan.”
This was, of course, Guan Qianyu.
After Elder Qian contacted her, Guan Qianyu had naturally agreed to meet. At the end of the day, she was a fan of Chu Bamboo, even if only of his music. Not to mention, just a few hours ago, Chu Bamboo had held a press conference and pulled off such a massive stunt.
At this point in time, far too many people were interested in Chu Bamboo himself.
Of course, it was only because Guan Qianyu had listened to Chu Bamboo’s songs countless times and was so familiar with his voice that she could recognize him now.
“Ah! Your timing is perfect,” Guan Qianyu said sincerely. She hesitated for a moment, then took a music cassette from her backpack and pushed it toward Chu Bamboo. “So, could you sign this for me…? Also, a lot of my colleagues are fans of yours, too. Could you maybe sign a few more? It’s fine if you can’t…”
“No problem,” Chu Bamboo said succinctly.
Guan Qianyu blinked, racking her brain for what to say next. She was a homebody with little contact with strangers. Finally, she could only force a smile and pull a topic out of thin air. “Oh, by the way, what a coincidence! I just saw a very interesting news story… I wonder if you’ve seen it?”
As he signed, Chu Bamboo gave Guan Qianyu a strange look.
“The Golden Lion King from across the ocean posted on X… saying he wants to sanction Z Company and C Company! He also made the wild claim that you stole… Celestial Net’s research results and brought them back to the country! He even published a bunch of data to make it look legitimate… ahem!”
As Guan Qianyu spoke, her expression was hard to describe. One could only say that the antics of the man across the sea were just too bizarre… and he had a countless history of bizarre antics, to the point that it was impossible to tell if he was serious or just throwing a tantrum.
Yesterday, he said Star Sea and Star Sea Detailed Explanation were plagiarized. Today, he’s saying Z is a copycat.
Anyway, in the comments section of the news article Guan Qianyu was scrolling through, the top-voted reply put it this way:
“Can Trumpy first get his story straight? Tell us, just how much stuff did Chu the Great God—the strongest spy in East Asian history, a god-tier concept who can even steal things that don’t exist—actually steal? What’s next? Chu the Great God announces another achievement tomorrow, and you, old man, announce another sanction and another theft?”
There was also a series of other highly-voted replies below that.
“I used to think Chu the Great God was just a grandstander, but now I have no choice but to believe!”
“Trumpy, why don’t you go be Z Company’s spokesperson! Compete with Chu the Great God for business! That’s probably the biggest threat you could pose to him.”
“I didn’t care at all before… but now I have to download it!”
“Good news! After Trumpy’s statement, Z is dominating the download charts on all the major overseas app stores!”
“What Chu God? When it comes to being a spokesperson, you’ve still gotta look to my man Trumpy!”
In any case, Guan Qianyu found the whole thing hilarious.
“…Oh.” Chu Bamboo replied with only a single word.
Guan Qianyu felt the atmosphere become incredibly awkward. ‘Was agreeing to come here a mistake?’ she even began to wonder.
Then…
Chu Bamboo just flicked his wrist, and a thick, bound manuscript appeared in his palm.
“You know magic tricks, too?” Guan Qianyu asked, somewhat surprised.
Chu Bamboo pushed it directly over to her. “Take a look.”
Guan Qianyu was a little confused. She opened the manuscript, and her expression instantly froze. The title was staring her in the face—
[On the True Cause of Leukemia and Conjectures on Low-Cost Treatment Methods]
Cold sweat beaded on Guan Qianyu’s forehead. This was the very paper she had been writing recently. The problem was, she had only just started it… ‘Wait, this manuscript!’
A storm raged in Guan Qianyu’s heart. She flipped through the pages continuously. The beginning was… not quite the same as what she had written, but this version was better than hers. The phrasing and terminology also felt incredibly familiar to her…
After a brief silence, she began flipping through again. The next section was already a completed study… [A Low-Cost Treatment Method for Leukemia]. And it was based on the previous conjectures. In other words…
Guan Qianyu gave a bitter smile. ‘My hypothesis was correct… but I was one step too late?’
Taking a deep breath, Guan Qianyu quickly came to terms with it. ‘After all, that’s just how scientific research works. A step behind is a step behind!’ She continued flipping, and a moment later, her hands froze. She stared intently at a brand-new paper title.
[Genetically Modifying Pig Embryos to Customize Porcine Organs for Human Use—The Heart, Liver, and Kidney]
Her mind went blank.
Guan Qianyu felt her hands and feet turn cold. Her research group was indeed working on this… but they were nowhere near a breakthrough! Currently, they had only managed to modify a pig’s heart to be barely usable for short-term human transplantation… and it still required massive doses of medication to suppress rejection.
She read with rapt attention, completely immersed, even ignoring Chu Bamboo’s presence… The manuscript actually contained detailed clinical trial results and specific data—this proved that the paper had genuinely solved this terrifying problem!
If all the data in here was correct… then this paper was tantamount to an official declaration that the problem of human organ transplantation would be a thing of the past. Even if anti-rejection drugs were still needed, it was no different! This could be called a revolution.
Most importantly, it was mass-producible… According to the report in the manuscript, under mass production conditions, the cost of a single organ transplant could be lowered to under thirty thousand! What did that even mean?!
Guan Qianyu gauged the thickness of the remaining pages—about ninety-five percent was left… If the beginning was already this momentous, she couldn’t imagine what was to come.
“…What… is all this!”
“Come and help me,” Chu Bamboo said, extending a frank invitation. “Isn’t your dream to free humanity from the suffering of disease?”
“?” Guan Qianyu’s page-turning came to a halt.
Chu Bamboo spoke in a slow, deliberate voice. “In your childhood, you watched your mother pass away, and that’s when this idea formed… As you grew up, you proved to be exceptionally intelligent. The more you saw, the more you couldn’t understand. You felt that humanity had clearly created such a brilliant industrial civilization, but in the field of genetics, why was progress so slow?”
“You believe that the greatest obstacle to human civilization is the lack of a genetic revolution to parallel the Industrial Revolution!”
