My Enemy Became My Cultivation Companion

Chapter 1453 - 787: Childlike Face, Voluptuous Figure (Double Length)

After who knew how long, the carriage slowly emerged from that stretch of mountain forest shrouded in dense mist. Beneath the wheels, the slick moss and scattered rocks gradually gave way, and the scenery outside the window grew clearer bit by bit.

The fog from before trailed away in wisps, retreating and thinning, until at last only a few light veils of haze clung to the distant mountain waist.

The long-missed daylight spilled down without hindrance, lighting up the verdant pines and cypresses by the roadside. Far off, the bluish-green ridges rolled and rose, their outlines sharp against the sky.

Inside the carriage, Miss Donggong lay on the window ledge, watching the scenery slide backward, and now and then turned to look at those mountains.

"It's all foggy in there. A lot of people died."

Her thoughts were simple; this remark was a sort of half-bewildered, half-earnest sigh.

Yin Weiyin sat further in, not meditating, but watching Chen Yi, on the verge of speaking yet holding back.

People who hover on the edge of speaking always seem to need a little noise to break the silence. Just then the carriage jolted, swaying a bit; Yin Weiyin braced a hand on the carriage wall and said:

"You… didn't strike at all, in the end?"

She had thought that, with Chen Yi's temperament—far keener on action than argument—he would at least draw his sword once. She hadn't expected him to leave everything for her to handle.

Chen Yi leaned against the carriage and glanced back at Yin Weiyin. Even with the carriage bumping, the female crown's posture remained composed.

"Why would I strike? I was just quietly watching you show off." Chen Yi smiled. "Didn't I say, once we're out and about, I'm supposed to give you face?"

Yin Weiyin was taken aback.

She truly hadn't expected that he'd keep that promise so clearly in mind. Indeed, he did count as a man who honors his word.

"I only fear it's because Min Ning wasn't there. If she had been, you would definitely have acted." Yin Weiyin spoke thus, yet even so, she couldn't keep a slight smile from her face.

Her words were modest, a step offered for him to come down on.

Even if Min Ning had been there, he still wouldn't have taken action. After all, how could Min Yuechi even be mentioned in the same breath as Yin Luanhuang?

Chen Yi only chuckled, neither confirming nor denying his Great Yin's remark.

If Min Ning had been present, it would indeed be hard to say—simply because the female knight's temperament was the one that most detested this sort of so-called immortal handiwork.

He himself disliked it too, but he wasn't the sort to leap in every time he saw injustice.

He thought for a moment, then, reflexively tailoring his words to his listener, said, "With you here, why talk about Min Yuechi? Could it be that Illuminant Sage thinks she's inferior to Min Yuechi?"

His tone held obvious teasing. Yin Weiyin's ears warmed, but a trace of light flickered through her eyes.

It seemed that, after these days of teaching by word and example, he was gradually learning what it meant to live above the mountain versus below it, and was coming to understand what an immortal's perspective truly was.

Min Ning and Min Yuechi might have once left some notation in his heart back then, but it was only for a time. In the end, this Golden Boy was meant to ascend alongside her and gain the Dao.

Thinking of this, Yin Weiyin took two steps forward, moving closer. Chen Yi was wondering what his Great Yin was up to, when he saw the Goddess raise her forefinger, touch his brow, and inscribe a "Still" seal upon him.

When she was done, she slowly printed a kiss upon his cheek.

Chen Yi froze for a moment under the spell, then arched a brow at his Great Yin. He'd long since grown used to women taking the initiative with him, ever since Qin Qingluo and Zhu E, so he didn't feel the least flustered—he just let out a soft snort of laughter.

Yin Weiyin knit her brows slightly. She couldn't help wondering why his ears weren't turning red, why he wasn't the least bit embarrassed. Truly infuriating…

Chen Yi watched her slightly lowered profile, her long lashes casting faint shadows on her cheeks. He suddenly reached out, gently closed his fingers around the hand that was unconsciously pinching her sleeve, and patted it, saying:

"You're being greedy for fun."

Yin Weiyin's brows furrowed deeper. She gave a soft humph and silently recited the Supreme Forget Emotion, lest he anger her too much.

Chen Yi turned his gaze back to the window.

The mountain road was smooth, the light just right,

the distant hills like strokes of blackish-green.

Donggong Ruoshu, who had been leaning at the carriage window, had at some unknown point turned back around. Watching this scene, she felt a little sweetness rise in her chest and realized that Yin Weiyin and Chen Yi together were actually quite delightful to behold.

It was just that Miss Yin didn't call her over when absorbing yang energy.

Donggong Ruoshu wrinkled her brows and suddenly found it not so sweet anymore.

The carriage and horses rolled on at a slow pace, jolting again.

Yin Weiyin lifted her eyes and swept a glance at Chen Yi, then asked in a testing tone:

"Do you know how I saw through it?"

"Don't want to know."

Yin Weiyin frowned again when she heard this. He clearly had noticed, yet still wore that utterly unconcerned look.

All because he felt nothing at all for attaining the Dao and becoming an Immortal.

Chen Yi didn't want to delve deeper into this with Yin Weiyin; talk a bit more, and his Great Yin would start bringing up becoming an Immortal again.

So he closed his eyes, leaned his head against the carriage wall, and said, "I'm a bit bored. I'm going to sleep for a while."

Seeing him like this, Yin Weiyin could only feel helpless, watching as he slowly drifted off, his breathing evening out.

The female crown truly could not understand: what was wrong with attaining the Dao and Changsheng, what harm in ascending to Immortalhood? Even if you only looked at the bond he cherished most—why wouldn't he wish to stay with her, long and lasting, as an Immortal Couple? He should want that. So where lay the crux of it?

Thinking a little, and recollecting further back, Yin Weiyin was startled to discover that the reason he felt so indifferent, even repulsed, perhaps did not lie with anyone else at all.

And as for herself!

Perhaps it was precisely because back then she'd shown up before him with her nose in the air, ordering him around, scheming behind his back, leaning on her sect to look down on him and set herself against him as an enemy, that he ended up rejecting her so fiercely…

He's the type to hold grudges the most; after all these years, it was only recently that he agreed to Dual Cultivation, and now, today, it seems that under her words and example he's slowly beginning to get enlightened, starting to grow an immortal heart, yet still not enlightened enough…

Yin Weiyin pondered to herself that now, shaping a true immortal heart for Chen Yi had reached a critical juncture, and she'd need to use some immortal tricks.

It's just… what kind of immortal tricks would be best? Yin Weiyin thought for a moment. The usual cloud-riding, mist-walking, sword-flying didn't count as much. After being together all this time, Chen Yi actually knew quite a few Taoist rules and taboos, and even knew secrets she herself had never learned. He wasn't one of those completely ignorant mortals who'd never seen the world. Strangely enough, he clearly knew the wonderful vistas of becoming an Immortal, yet still stubbornly clung to his own views, with not the slightest trace of immortal aura on him.

The female crown sighed, feeling a little desolate inside. If only she hadn't gone against him like that back then, how good that would have been. Having an Immortal stroke my head, tying up my hair and granting me Changsheng is certainly wonderful; but if he's unwilling to receive it, she really should not force it. Meeting is fate; sending him a few bottles of elixir, gifting a few classics—with her looks, wouldn't she long since have had him hanging on her, utterly hooked?

Yin Weiyin felt a measure of regret, the kind of "if I'd known this, why act like that back then"; as if one wrong step really did lead to every step after going wrong.

Just as she was turning this over in her mind, a faint prickling rose at her neck. The female crown felt a shiver in her heart and slowly raised her head, only to see a pair of eyes staring at her from the depths of the carriage.

It didn't look like a person staring at a person, but more like a beast.

Donggong Ruoshu's pair of big eyes, usually clear and dazed, were at this moment wide open, unblinking, fixed straight on Yin Weiyin's face.

Under that gaze, Yin Weiyin's heart inexplicably tightened; she actually felt a bit creeped out.

This stupid girl is normally either giggling foolishly, or dozing off, or asking questions that leave people utterly speechless—when has she ever given this kind of unnervingly quiet, almost eerie stare?

Like a fierce tiger emerging from the thicket, twin pupils locked right onto her.

Yin Weiyin's face remained composed, maintaining her usual cool and aloof bearing. So as not to disturb Chen Yi's sleep, she transmitted with Divine Sense:

"Miss Donggong, why are you looking at me like that?"

Donggong Ruoshu's lips pursed slightly, but she still stared straight at her.

She'd just had a nightmare and felt a kind of indescribable bad mood. When people are in a bad mood, they'll think of things that make them feel even worse; Miss Donggong was like that. Watching the two of them being a little sweet had suddenly made her think of how Yin Weiyin hadn't called her over when she was抽肉香 before.

The stupid girl didn't know she was an auspicious beast; dreaming of the Spirit Deer in disaster naturally gave her that instinctive sorrow-for-one's-own-kind feeling. She only knew she was really not very happy.

Honestly, Miss Yin had clearly said she'd teach her, but before teaching had even started, she'd already begun secretly eating.

"You're really no fun at all!" Donggong Ruoshu sent by secret transmission.

Yin Weiyin was completely baffled and asked back, "What?"

"I already found out! You抽肉香 without calling me." Donggong Ruoshu said angrily, cheeks puffed.

The gracefully cold Yin Weiyin almost broke character.

What the hell do you mean,抽肉香—how did that even come out of that brain of yours—and what do you mean, not calling you?

Is there even anything for you to抽?! You little horny hoof!

With Donggong Ruoshu staring straight at her like that, she'd thought it was something serious; she'd never expected it to be this. Yin Weiyin was so furious her chest rose and fell, and she silently recited the Supreme Forget Emotion to calm herself.

Then, just as she was about to speak words of comfort, a thread of suspicion flashed through her mind. She continued, "When you say…抽肉香…what do you mean by that?"

"What else could it mean? You're absorbing his yang energy and you're not telling me."

Those words shocked Yin Weiyin. Wait—how could this stupid girl think it was absorbing yang energy?

Could it be that back then… she and Chen Yi had already gone that far?!

Wouldn't that mean… they were just one step from the finish line!

At this thought, the female crown was struck as if by lightning.

Yin Weiyin felt a surge of murky air, mixed with shock, sour jealousy, and even a hint of inarticulate panic, shoot straight into her chest, making her vision blur for a moment.

She snapped her gaze up, looking at Donggong Ruoshu again, eyes like lightning, as if wanting to pierce through that seemingly harmless, pure face and see into the depths of a soul that might not be as simple as it looked.

Yet what met her eyes were still those aggrieved, big eyes, clear to the bottom. Aside from being particularly bright at the moment due to her emotions, there wasn't the slightest hint of coquetry in them; all over, she radiated a kind of childlike stubbornness.

Yin Weiyin's gaze kept subtly drifting downward.

She'd praised this stupid girl's body in her heart more than once. Right now, Donggong Ruoshu was sitting sideways to the carriage window; having just turned to confront her, she was now facing her. The outer robe she wore had loosened a bit at the collar due to the carriage's jolting, revealing a small patch of delicate collarbone, and below that, an abruptly full swell that simply couldn't be hidden—an astonishing volume that rose and fell with each bump…

Such volume could only be matched, and barely, by Min Ning's elder sister, Min Ming.

The female crown swallowed a mouthful of saliva, and suddenly recalled a vulgar, strange term Chen Yi had once used: "baby-face big boobs."

Yin Weiyin suddenly felt a little wary. A term like that wouldn't be a tree with no roots. Quite possibly, Chen Yi had coined it after seeing this stupid girl. Back then, although Chen Yi had constantly claimed there was nothing between them, was there really nothing? Men's mouths are born to lie; besides, he was lecherous down to his fate… most likely he couldn't escape such instincts.

Either way, with a figure like that… those romantic ties must be severed…

With her, the First Lady, personally taking the field, how could she possibly allow this stupid girl any chance to succeed?

One must know that back then, at Dragon and Tiger Mountain's Demon Refining Abyss, it was precisely because she, the First Lady, possessed him that Chen Yi's covetous thoughts were dispelled.

Yin Weiyin had just settled that thought when she was suddenly reminded of all the past instances where she'd misplayed her moves by a hair.

But… if she were found out, what should she do then?
