My Evolving Tentacle System: I Steal Talents
Chapter 57: Evolved
The notification hit him like a physical blow. His body locked up, every muscle seizing at once as the system’s magic flooded through him with an intensity that made Storm Manipulation feel like a gentle breeze. He dropped the core and stumbled backward, barely managing to stay on his feet as the world around him began to blur and shift.
[Warning: Evolution in progress. Please remain stationary.]
Oh shit. Oh shit oh shit oh shit—
Pain lanced through him, starting in his chest and radiating outward like cracks spreading through glass. He could feel his cells rearranging themselves, his organs shifting, his very being rewritten by forces that didn’t care about his comfort or consent.
His tentacle, that faithful invisible appendage that had served him so well, suddenly burst into visibility. It writhed and twisted, growing longer and thicker before his eyes, its surface developing ridges and nodes that hadn’t been there before. And it wasn’t alone anymore.
A second tentacle emerged from his back, just below his left shoulder blade. Then a third on the right side. Then a fourth, a fifth, a sixth. They erupted from his body like branches from a tree, each one pulsing with that same dark energy that had defined his first tentacle since the beginning.
[First Tentacle has evolved! → Sovereign Tentacle (Supreme)]
[New Tentacles unlocked: 5 additional tentacles acquired.]
[Total Tentacle Count: 6]
He screamed, but the sound that came out wasn’t human. It was something deeper, something older, a resonance that made the very stone around him vibrate in sympathy. His Siren form rippled and blurred, trying to contain changes that were never meant for humanoid bodies.
His skin turned silver, then black, then silver again. His eyes burned with crimson light bright enough to cast shadows in the dim chamber. His hair lengthened and lifted, flowing around his head like it was underwater despite the dungeon’s stale air.
[Racial Evolution Complete!]
[Race: Evolving Tentacle Monster → Evolving Tentacle Sovereign]
[New Passive Ability Unlocked: Sovereign’s Domain]
[When activated, creates a 50-meter zone where all tentacle effects are amplified by 5x and target resistance is reduced by 50%.]
[New Active Ability Unlocked: Tentacle Manifestation]
[You may now manifest physical tentacles visible to others, or keep them invisible at will. Visible tentacles deal 3x normal damage.]
The pain began to fade, replaced by a warmth that spread through his new body like sunlight through water. He could feel his tentacles now, all six of them, as clearly as he could feel his arms and legs. They responded to his thoughts with perfect synchronization, coiling and uncoiling in patterns that would’ve been impossible for any single limb to achieve.
He looked down at his hands and found them unchanged, still the same Siren hands he’d been wearing since absorbing that first drowned sailor. But something was different about the way they felt. Stronger. More alive.
Is this what evolution feels like? Like being reborn without dying first?
He pulled up his status screen, and what he saw made him laugh out loud.

Holy shit.
His stats had nearly doubled across the board. His HP and MP had more than tripled. His tentacles were longer, stronger, and there were six of them now instead of one. And his Talent Stealing ability had evolved too, from stealing one Talent at a time to stealing ALL of them.
I’m a walking army now.
He flexed his new tentacles experimentally, watching them move through the air with serpentine grace. They were beautiful in a terrible sort of way, dark and gleaming and absolutely deadly. When he focused, he could make them invisible again, but even hidden they felt more present than before. More real.
The Sovereign’s Domain ability intrigued him most. A fifty-meter zone where his tentacle effects were amplified and resistance was reduced? That was basically a guaranteed win condition against anything short of a god.
Speaking of gods, I wonder if the next evolution requires me to fight one.
The thought should’ve been frightening. Instead, it just made him smile.
He collected the Excavator’s core and made his way toward the exit, his new tentacles trailing behind him like a cape made of darkness. The dungeon’s green gate appeared at the far end of the boss chamber, pulsing with that familiar emerald light that meant victory.
He stepped through and emerged into the afternoon sun, blinking against the sudden brightness. The world looked different now, sharper and more vivid, like he’d been viewing it through smudged glass his entire life and someone had finally wiped it clean.
His Apex Senses, enhanced by the evolution, picked up sounds and smells from miles away. He could hear the distant rumble of cart wheels on cobblestone, the murmur of voices in Valdris’s market district, the heartbeat of a rabbit hiding in the underbrush thirty feet to his left.
