My God-Level System Can Rebuild Civilization in the Apocalypse!
Chapter 366: Price of Basic Wood
They would nurture these plants so that they could become part of their family’s legacy. Under normal circumstances, they might only break off a single branch to use in crafting certain items.
As a result, the market price of basic wood was naturally much lower than that of materials such as ores. One unit of wood could be purchased for just one copper coin, and cutting down a tree would yield no more than a dozen or so copper coins at most.
Furthermore, although Joo Joowon had cut down the trees in less than a minute, that was only possible because his own basic attributes gave him such a huge advantage.
With those same attributes, he could perform other tasks just as quickly.
In the game, the people who usually did this kind of work were Level 1 or Level 2 players. They could not cut down trees nearly as quickly as he could. Normally, by the time they finished chopping down a single large tree, ten or twenty minutes would already have passed.
Yet even that was considered a fairly fast pace.
After all, the work depended entirely on physical strength. Without the help of a common-quality lumberjacking axe, the process would be even slower.
If they used tools such as chainsaws instead, the time required would naturally be reduced considerably.
However, such tools had a risk of breaking down, and they were also much more expensive than lumberjacking axes.
Therefore, rather than spend money upgrading their lumberjacking tools, lords would rather buy a few more slaves and make them do the work until they were exhausted to death.
It was easy to imagine how difficult life could be for a player who possessed only the lumberjacking secondary profession and wanted to make a living from it.
For Kang Taewoo, an opportunity to earn some extra money was certainly a good thing. Naturally, it had no reason to refuse.
None of its secondary professions could be considered popular, so its usual earnings were not particularly high.
The only downside was that it would have to work a little harder for a while. However, doing strenuous manual labor and hauling materials around was something it was particularly good at.
More importantly, since this was not an order placed through the recruitment interface, the game would not charge a transaction fee either.
For low-level NPCs, any opportunity to earn some extra money was something they would never turn down.
Joo Joowon had already figured this out while browsing various forums, which was why he had chosen Kang Taewoo in the first place.
There were people struggling to make ends meet everywhere.
However, although the market price of wood was one copper coin per unit, basic wood was actually a material that had a listed price but very little real demand, especially compared with other basic materials.
Unlike ores and other resources, wood was something that could be obtained freely in almost any world. Only when lords were in urgent need of it would they choose to purchase it this way. Most of the time, they would simply find people to cut down trees for them.
As a result, the listed market price was one thing, but the actual transaction price rarely reached that level. If sellers refused to offer a discount and insisted on selling at the fixed price of one copper coin per unit, their wood would probably sit around until it grew moldy without anyone coming to buy it.
Therefore, although Joo Joowon had said that he would pay the market price, he still haggled with Kang Taewoo for a while.
In the end, he smoothly managed to change the price from one copper coin per unit to one copper coin for two units.
Even though the price had been cut in half, Kang Taewoo was still quite satisfied.
It even thought that Joo Joowon was a really good person. He had been so tactful when bargaining that he had barely seemed to be haggling at all.
After all, competition over the price of basic wood on the market was fierce. Some sellers were offering five units for one copper coin, and even at that price, they could not necessarily sell their stock immediately.
Therefore, Kang Taewoo had already prepared itself for the possibility that the price would be pushed down. As long as it was not reduced to something too outrageous, it would accept the deal. It had genuinely not expected Joo Joowon, who had seemed so miserly earlier, to suddenly become so generous.
In fact, if the teleportation fees had not been ridiculously expensive, Joo Joowon would definitely have skipped the bargaining and purchased the wood directly through the forum.
However, until a teleportation array had been established in his territory, purchasing these basic materials from other game worlds was practically out of the question. The teleportation fees alone would cost more than the goods themselves.
The main reason he had not pushed the price down to the lowest possible level was that he had taken Kang Taewoo’s feelings into consideration. He did not want to make the whole matter unnecessarily complicated.
Kang Taewoo itself was not particularly important, but the benefits that might be hidden behind it were.
As for whether anything would ultimately come of this, he would simply leave it to fate. He could treat it as an opportunity to build a good relationship.
Once the price had been settled, Kang Taewoo immediately became much more motivated to work seriously.
Unlike Joo Joowon, it could only cut down one tree at a time. However, it was much faster than him, usually needing only one or two swings of its axe to fell a tree.
Therefore, in terms of efficiency, it was not much slower than Joo Joowon after all.
Joo Joowon observed it for a while and discovered that Kang Taewoo’s lumberjacking secondary profession did not seem to be limited to the beginner level.
Unlike primary professions, secondary professions could be taken up without any restrictions, regardless of who the person was.
