"You’re Ye Xing, is it? How did you and my junior sister meet?" Huangfu Jianchen asked, his face cold and arrogant as he fixed Ye Xing with a scrutinizing gaze.

"We just met by chance. Mengxue is a wonderful person. Brother Jian Chen, since Mengxue has returned to her sect, how long will it be until she can come out again?" Ye Xing asked, looking perplexed.

"What? You still wish to see my junior sister?" A cold glint flashed through Huangfu Jianchen’s eyes, and the temperature seemed to drop abruptly.

Ye Xing’s heart skipped a beat as a chill washed over him. ’This Huangfu Jianchen wants to kill me!’

A terrifying killing intent descended upon him. Ye Xing’s forehead beaded with cold sweat. The air grew as frigid as the dead of winter, a bone-piercing chill that made him feel as if he had been plunged into an ice cellar.

"You seem frightened," Huangfu Jianchen said with a faint smile. The overwhelming killing intent vanished as quickly as it had appeared, and the chill in the air rapidly dissipated.

Ye Xing’s forehead was drenched in cold sweat. He gasped for air, his eyes fixed on Huangfu Jianchen in utter terror.

"Heh, don’t be afraid. You’re my junior sister’s friend. If I were to kill you, she would surely be upset with me. So, I won’t kill you. However—" Huangfu Jianchen’s expression turned cold as he finished, "—from now on, you are not to contact my junior sister again."

Ye Xing seethed with rage. It was obvious Huangfu Jianchen was just trying to intimidate him, but he could only endure it. He neither agreed nor objected, simply remaining silent.

"What? Unconvinced?" Huangfu Jianchen shot Ye Xing a glance, a mocking sneer on his face. "A piece of trash at the Martial Arts Third Realm who somehow managed to meet my junior sister. You should be proud of the last few days. But... from today onward, I suggest you learn your place!"

"You and my junior sister are from two different worlds. She is a genius of the Martial Dao with astonishing aptitude, destined to inherit the mantle of Celestial Snow Mountain. You’re just an insignificant... ahem, why am I even telling you this? You’re just ordinary friends who met a few days ago. There’s no way she’d ever be interested in you. It seems I’ve been worrying for nothing." Huangfu Jianchen shook his head and chuckled mockingly. "Kid, do you know the difference between an Innate Realm Martial Artist and a Postnatal Realm Martial Artist?"

"You probably don’t even realize how insignificant you are. How about this? I’ll give you a lesson and let you experience a taste of my power." Huangfu Jianchen pointed to a stone pavilion in the distance and grinned. "See that pavilion? I don’t even have to move. With a mere wave of my hand, I can obliterate it."

The words had barely left his lips when Huangfu Jianchen waved his hand. In that instant—

WHOOSH! WHOOSH! WHOOSH!

Streaks of Innate Sword Qi screamed through the air, hurtling toward the stone pavilion.

"Qiao’Er!"

Ye Xing’s expression changed drastically. He immediately executed his Wind Shadow Step, rushing toward the stone pavilion.

Hiding beside the pavilion was the little girl, Qiao’Er, who had been silently watching them. It all happened so fast that she was frozen in shock.

"Qiao’Er, quick! Get down!"

Ye Xing roared, his voice filled with frantic desperation.

BOOM! RUMBLE!

RUMBLE!

The streams of Innate Sword Qi slammed into the pavilion’s pillars and roof. In an instant, the sturdy structure was blown apart. Amidst the deafening roar, rubble flew and tiles shot out in every direction.

CRASH! BANG! BANG! BANG!

The shrapnel flew with terrifying force. A piece of stone pierced straight through the little girl’s arm, sending blood spraying into the air.

Several more large chunks of rock hurtled toward her.

Fortunately, Ye Xing wasn’t far away. He finally reached her, tackling the little girl to the ground and shielding her tightly with his own body.

BOOM! THUD! THUD! THUD!

Instantly, heavy chunks of stone slammed into Ye Xing’s back, one after another, each blow like a sledgehammer.

SPURT!

He coughed up a mouthful of blood, feeling as if his insides were on fire. His organs had been severely damaged, and a searing pain consumed him.

’I didn’t even use a tenth of my strength, and he’s already injured? How boring. Forget it, I can’t be bothered with this waste of space. I have business to attend to.’ A trace of disdain flashed in Huangfu Jianchen’s eyes. He leaped into the air, leaving a trail of afterimages, and landed gracefully on the back of the Black Feathered Eagle.

The Black Feathered Eagle beat its wings, kicking up a gale, and swiftly vanished over the horizon.

’You son of a bitch... you’ve gone too far! Just you wait!’

Staring at Huangfu Jianchen’s departing figure, Ye Xing gritted his teeth, his eyes burning with fury. The overwhelming rage aggravated his internal injuries, and he coughed up another mouthful of dark blood.

...

Back in the mansion’s rear courtyard, the stone pavilion lay in pieces, the ground littered with rubble.

The little girl, Qiao’Er, lay on the ground, her right arm pierced by a shard of stone. Blood had soaked her entire sleeve. She was biting down hard, refusing to let out a single cry of pain.

"Qiao’Er, if it hurts, it’s okay to cry. Let your big brother patch you up."

His heart ached for her. Ye Xing quickly took out a vial of Golden Wound Medicine, uncorked it, and poured the powder directly onto the wound on her arm.

"Big brother, you’re hurt too! I’m okay, it doesn’t hurt!" Qiao’Er said, though her face was pale and weak.

That Huangfu Jianchen was an Innate Realm expert, his power likely surpassing even that of the Thousand-faced Man, Hu Yinjiu. The shrapnel from his casual strike had injured Ye Xing severely, to say nothing of a little girl like Qiao’Er.

Ye Xing’s heart burned with rage. He hated his own weakness. At the same time, he came to a stark realization: on the Martial Arts Continent, it was simply the law of the jungle—the weak were meat for the strong. If Huangfu Jianchen hadn’t completely disdained him for his paltry Martial Arts Third Realm and Qi Cultivation Stage cultivation, and if Mengxue hadn’t done her best to protect and conceal their relationship, Ye Xing felt certain that Huangfu Jianchen would have killed him with a flick of his finger.
