Chapter 165: Chapter 116: The Director is in Trouble

What Commander Bai needed to do was shut these people up.

After all, the Lu Family had always cooperated with the Bai Family’s operations, showing no signs of opposition or resistance.

Furthermore, both Lu Huaiqian and Lu Jing’an were people of status.

’If I really were to eliminate them for no reason, it would ultimately cause some trouble.’

’Forget it. I’ll let you live a little longer.’

’Once the Hu Family is dealt with for good, the Lu Family will have no choice but to fall.’

’The Lu Family didn’t make a move this time either. The Hu Family is probably disappointed again.’

’However, this might also force the Hu Family to make their move against me sooner.’

’Only then can this matter be resolved as quickly as possible.’

’I can’t let this drag on for too long. The disturbances up north are getting more and more significant.’

’If I can’t secure my own territory soon, I’m afraid there won’t be a seat for the Bai Family at the table.’

...

The BEEP-BEEP-BEEP of a disconnected line came from the other end of the phone.

Bai Lang remained standing where he was, still clutching the receiver.

A patch of his uniform on his back was soaked through with cold sweat.

Bai Lang slowly lowered the receiver, his eyes once again turning fierce.

"The Lu Family..."

The name escaped Bai Lang’s lips in a murmur. He then shook his head, pushing the sliver of doubt aside for now.

The pressing matter was that damned Snake Demon!

Three days. He only had three days.

For the next three days, Bai Lang all but lived on the Ironclad Ship.

Bai Lang mobilized all available ships and personnel, casting a wide net as he repeatedly scoured the Yin Mountain section of the Canglan River and its adjacent waters.

The searchlights blazed through the night, leaving the river’s fish and shrimp no peace.

Bai Lang even resorted to using some of the military’s tracking Secret Techniques, consuming a considerable amount of Spirit Talisman materials.

But the Snake Demon seemed to have vanished completely, leaving not a single trace behind.

After three sleepless days, Bai Lang’s eyes were completely bloodshot.

His temper had also frayed to its limit; he would lash out with fists and feet at the slightest provocation.

His men avoided him like the plague.

「The deadline arrived. Dawn, the fourth day.」

The sky was a hazy gray, and a thin mist drifted over the river.

The Ironclad Ship dragged its weary hull back to the docks.

Bai Lang stood at the bow, watching the docks draw ever closer, his heart turning to ice.

He knew that this time, he would truly be unable to answer to the Commander.

The ship had just pulled alongside the pier, its mooring lines not yet secured.

A Water Patrol Officer on duty at the Government Office came scrambling up the gangplank.

He was running in such a hurry that he nearly plunged headfirst into the river.

"Ch-Chief! It’s bad! S-something terrible has happened!"

The Water Patrol Officer’s face was ashen, his voice sharp and distorted with absolute terror.

’Those words again!’

For days on end, he’d been toyed with, humiliated, and reprimanded by his superior.

The rage, fear, and brutality, all fueled by public pressure.

In that instant, it all shattered Bai Lang’s last shred of sanity.

"Bad news! Bad news! I’ll give you bad news!"

Bai Lang let out a low roar, his eyes blood-red, as his right hand shot out and clenched at the empty air!

An invisible yet irresistible suction force erupted.

The reporting Water Patrol Officer cried out in alarm as his feet left the ground.

As if seized by a great, unseen hand, he flew uncontrollably toward Bai Lang.

Bai Lang’s fingers, like iron hooks, precisely clamped around the man’s neck.

"It’s always ’bad news’! You must be tired of living, wanting to see just how bad *my* news can be!"

CRACK!

A sickeningly crisp snap echoed.

The Water Patrol Officer’s eyes bulged, his face frozen in a mask of ultimate terror and confusion.

His limbs twitched twice, then went completely limp.

Bai Lang released his grip, and the corpse dropped like a sack of grain onto the cold stone slabs of the dock.

The surroundings fell deathly silent. Only the LAPPING of the river against the shore and the faint hum of the Ironclad Ship’s dying steam engine could be heard.

All the Soldiers and sailors present were terrified into lowering their heads.

They trembled, not daring to make a single sound.

Without a glance at the corpse on the ground, Bai Lang stood with his chest heaving violently.

Each breath he exhaled condensed in the cold morning air, forming frantic arrows of mist.

Bai Lang stared fixedly at the mist-shrouded surface of the Canglan River, which seemed to hide an endless, mocking sneer.

He ground out, word by word, from between his teeth:

"Vile creature... Lu Family... Good. Very good..."
