My milf rebate system: starting with my best friends mother
Chapter 74: House maker seed
Logan caught her. The officer finally arrived, talking fast, asking who struck first. Stephanie handed him the phone clip before anyone could invent a crop.
Upstairs, the riverside floor did not feel empty anymore. It felt like a place a man had found by following money.
Stephanie sat on the rug where they had just been and laughed in a way that worried Logan more than crying would have.
"He will send the dome cut to every member who voted against him," she said. "I will send the phone cut to Mara. We will spend the weekend in a war of angles."
Logan’s system pulsed.
[Paul Hale physical contact with bound target recorded]
[Host strike recorded]
[Public packet risk: split narrative]
[Opportunity: House Maker rank available if host spends $80,000 more on a non-liquid asset in Stephanie’s name before midnight]
[House Maker perk: first owned property becomes a system sanctuary. Consumer cameras fail inside. Pins fail inside.]
A sanctuary.
A place Paul could not follow with a garage trick.
Logan looked at the clock. 10:41.
He had the money. He did not have time for a pretty purchase.
Stephanie watched his face change.
"What is the app saying?"
"That I can buy a door Paul cannot see through if I put a property in your name before midnight."
She stared at him.
"Do it," she said. "Not a palace. A ugly legal box. I will not be a kept woman in marble. I will be a woman with a lock that works."
Logan called the only broker Alfred had said moved at night. A foreclosure two-flat near the river, ugly, dry, already cleared. Seventy-two thousand. Fees pushed it over eighty.
Payment left at 11:27.
Title instruction: Stephanie Hale, personal, not Hydra.
[Rank up: House Maker]
[Sanctuary seeding: 2 hours]
[Until seed completes, current floor remains visible]
Two hours.
Paul already knew this floor.
Logan looked at Stephanie.
"We leave in ten minutes. The new place will not wake up until after one. We need a hole in the map until then."
Stephanie picked up her bag.
"Caroline’s house is off limits. Brandon will break if we land there."
"Then we drive until the seed completes. No more buildings with ramps."
They took the stair again.
In the street a car that was not Night Watch and not Paul’s sedan idled with its lights off.
Evelyn sat in the back passenger window like a woman who could not stay out of fires.
"Get in," she said. "Andrew is on the dome feed already. He thinks his father looks like a victim. I have a driver who is not yours. You have ninety minutes of people who hate me more than they hate you. Use them or stand on a curb and wait for climate."
Stephanie’s hand found Logan’s.
The idling car waited.
Getting in with Evelyn Rose was how the book had started in another shape.
Staying on the curb was how Paul finished it
They got in.
Not because Evelyn was safe. Because ninety minutes of moving metal beat two hours of a floor Paul could still see.
Evelyn’s driver did not introduce himself. The car slid into night traffic like it had practiced disappearing.
Stephanie sat rigid on one side of Logan. Evelyn sat on the other with her knee not quite touching his. The geometry was obscene. The city outside did not care.
"Talk," Stephanie said.
Evelyn kept her eyes on the divider glass.
"Andrew cut the garage dome. He cropped Paul’s hand off Stephanie and left Logan’s shoulder in frame. He sent it to twelve members and a veterans’ group that still thinks Paul walks on water. Mara has my lawyer’s denial on the wrist clip. She does not have a counter to a bleeding general yet."
"And you?" Logan asked.
"I am here because if Paul wins the crop war he owns the grant he offered me and then he owns a piece of my uncle. I told you I would think about his offer. I thought. The answer is I would rather sit in a car with a man I humiliated than sign that."
Stephanie laughed once, sharp.
"Do not rewrite yourself into a sister. You sent my son’s friend a sex tape to break him."
"I did," Evelyn said. "I am not asking to sleep in your new ugly house. I am asking to live through the next two hours without becoming Paul’s grant."
The car took a bridge. Water ran black underneath.
Logan’s phone showed the sanctuary seed like a loading bar from a game he still could not quite believe.
47%
Andrew texted a still of the cropped garage. Paul against the sedan. Blood. Logan’s blur of a shoulder. Caption already written.
This is what happens when a student is allowed to touch a veteran’s family.
Stephanie forwarded it to Mara with her own uncut clip attached and no comment. The journalist replied in seconds.
Running both. Do not die before the package airs.
Caroline called. Logan put her on speaker because secrets in this car were already a joke.
"Brandon saw a garage still," Caroline said. "He thinks you murdered a general. I told him to look at Stephanie’s wrist in the other clip. He is coming to me anyway. Logan. If you are in a car with people who ruined him, I need to hear your voice stay level."
"I am level," Logan said. "We have a house that will close at one. After that I can go dark without looking like a body in a river."
"Is she with you? Andrew’s girl?"
Evelyn spoke, dry.
"I am not his girl."
Caroline went quiet.
