My Pet Slime Gives Me 10x Rewards
Chapter 93: Returning to Seattle
The massacre was finally happening. I pounced on the person closest to me, not caring whether it was someone I had talked to before. To me, everyone in that room was a bastard who deserved to die.
As soon as I got close, the masked man tried to attack me, physically. That was funny, or rather, comical. Someone trying to fight me head-on? Impossible.
I grabbed that guy’s arm and ripped it off with ease. Blood sprayed in every direction, splattering my face and clothes and pooling on the floor.
The man screamed in pain, trying to cover the hole with his other hand.
"Please, stop. I don’t want to die."
With a single slap, quick and lethal, to the side of his head, I tore it clean off. More blood gushed out, creating a grotesque scene.
I heard more screams. Gary had already claimed other victims, draining their blood, being the vampire he was after so long. Everyone was desperate, trying to run away from there. Of course, I didn’t let that happen.
I used my cube to build walls over every exit, forcing everyone to stay in that room, a room that had now become my slaughterhouse.
I moved on to the next one, and the next... In no time, dismembered bodies were scattered everywhere. Only four people were still alive, and one of them was about to die.
It was Joyce, a bitch who thought she was smarter than me. I walked up to her, kneeling there, and ripped her head off.
The others, Robert, Christina, and that bastard Kevin, were in front of the altar, also on their knees, begging for their lives and acting completely different from how they had been minutes earlier. Funny how people could change so completely in such a short time.
Even after seeing Joyce die right beside them, none of them flinched or looked over.
In a trembling voice, Kevin pleaded.
"I’ll do anything you want, just please, don’t kill me. I didn’t have a choice. Either I did what the demon said, or I died. What would you have done in my situation? TELL ME!"
You could tell Kevin was completely lost, hysterical, shouting even in a situation where he should have been careful. At least he was smart enough to realize that, and apologized right after.
"Sorry. I yelled on impulse. Please, ask whatever you want to know."
I stood there, watching them, my gaze falling on each one of them, switching targets every few seconds. Gary stood beside me, slightly behind, as if showing respect and letting me stand in front.
What should I ask him? The monster invasion, for sure.
"What do you know about the invasion?"
Kevin gave me a strange look. I think he expected me to ask something else.
"A demon was released by some idiot, and that’s when all of this started happening. This demon put some vampires to work collecting keys to free what they believe are the ancestral vampires, but they’re actually more demons! And from what people are saying, a lot of important information is on that other continent everyone keeps talking about."
Everything was connected! Gary was just as surprised as I was. After all, he had firmly believed the vampires wanted to free the ancestral vampires, maybe to regain the glory their race once had with their help.
But it was all a lie. They were being tricked by that demon.
And of course, the idiot who released that demon was me... I didn’t know quite what to think about that, but it wasn’t like I did it on purpose. It was just a mistake, obviously.
However, something didn’t add up. The demon I released was recent, and these murders committed by Kevin and the rest of his employees seemed like something older.
"We made that up to fool you," Kevin answered my doubt, "the murders are recent, but we wanted to make it look like they weren’t. And all these bodies in here, we didn’t even kill them, the demon did. He killed so many people that I was so scared of him coming back that I went and hired more security. Please, believe me."
What he said made sense, but I had no way of knowing if it was really true. Because of that doubt, I decided to lock him inside my pocket dimension, for now. Not just him. I did the same with the other two, and I took the grimoire they had been given by the demon.
None of them resisted. It was better than dying, and death was what awaited them if they went against my commands.
Gary and I left the mansion, both of us soaked in blood. Each of us used a shower to clean up, and we met outside the mansion.
There were some employees who didn’t really know what was going on, mostly guards, and a few maids who weren’t involved. We decided not to draw attention and slip away from the mansion without anyone seeing us.
Outside, Gary asked what we were going to do now. Apparently he believed he would be working by my side.
"You know we can’t be seen together, right?" I said. "If you really want to help, for the time being, you’ll have to stay inside my pocket dimension. Maybe it’s not the kind of life you want, but it’s what I can offer."
Gary lowered his head.
"No problem, master. I prefer living like this beside someone strong like you over going back to the vampires to be treated like trash, and wasting my time freeing more demons. Maybe it would be interesting to try contacting them? Warn them that they’re being tricked?"
His idea was good. Who knew, maybe I could gather some vampires to work with us. But for the moment, it wasn’t the priority. The priority was to return to the United States and start planning the visit to the new continent with the others. Finding Ethan and Tom would be a good idea.
"When the time is right, we’ll do it," I replied. "Let’s focus on getting to the continent Kevin talked about. I was already going there anyway, so nothing has changed."
"Understood, master."
Gary and I entered the pocket dimension. Christina, Robert, and Kevin were inside, locked in a new cabin I had built near the lake. The cabin had a window, and they were looking through it.
I went over there to have a chat.
As soon as I opened the door, Christina said, amazed at what she was seeing.
"Where are we? What a beautiful place."
I pushed her back inside before she could try to step out. I wasn’t planning on being very friendly with them. Sure, they had helped me by giving me some information, but they had still tried to sacrifice me in that fucking macabre ritual, and I wouldn’t forget that so easily.
Robert and Kevin were silent, sitting on a chair in the corner of the cabin, looking at the nature outside the window.
"Will we be able to leave this cabin?"
It was Robert who asked me that. Of everyone there, he was the one who had deceived me the most, but at the same time, the most remorseful. He was being forced to take part in all of this.
"If you earn my trust, yes. You might even be able to have a routine similar to what you had at the mansion, actually, even better. A place to live, food, you can grow crops and even fish in the lake. I can’t have the Internet or anything digital in here, but books and other things, yes."
One of my plans was to expand my pocket dimension even further and turn it into a small world with people living inside. Of course, preferably people who actually wanted to live there, and not kidnapped people like I was doing.
"Understood. We’ll do our best to earn your trust."
I called Gary outside to talk. Him I already trusted enough to walk around freely, since he had heard about Bob and knew a lot of my secrets.
"Little by little, I want to start letting them out of the cabin. Maybe not in the first 2 days, but after that, who knows, let them start a farm or fish in the lake, all under your supervision. Let’s say you’re getting a promotion now, and you’ll be in charge of the people living in here. I hope I can trust you not to suck their blood."
"Never, master. And I feel honored to become someone you trust. Do you plan to turn this into a small village?"
"At first, yes. But think big, Gary. This place will grow as large as a rift, maybe a city with its own economy, a whole new world. What do you think? Ambitious?"
Just like me, Gary seemed excited about the idea.
"A great idea. With all this shit going on outside, I wouldn’t risk living on Earth most of the time. This way, you’ll have a private world, and in here, you’re practically a god."
A god... The idea didn’t sound bad to me. Was the thirst for power corrupting me?
Anyway, I left Gary in charge of them and exited the pocket dimension, leaving Canada by plane, since services were running again. I flew straight to Seattle.
Seattle wasn’t nearly as destroyed anymore! Most cities had recovered, and that invasion had become nothing more than a scare. But it raised a red flag for every country.
Everyone started adopting stricter security measures, trying to prevent something like that from happening again.
And with the invasion over, some academies resumed classes. I, however, was too strong to become a mere student like before.
I went straight to the Hunter’s Society building to take a test and become an A-rank hunter right away.
