Chapter 641: Worship and Boundaries
Chapter 641: Worship and Boundaries
The car carried us through the sleeping city. Past darkened storefronts and empty sidewalks. Past the Academy where our strange story had begun. Past the corner where two gangsters had shot me in the chest and inadvertently triggered the awakening of a consciousness that should have stayed buried forever.
Natalia’s head rested on my shoulder. Her breathing had slowed. Steadied. The rage had burned itself out, leaving behind something softer. Something that felt dangerously close to vulnerability.
"What did she tell you?" Natalia asked quietly. "About your father?"
"That he found something. Something connected to whatever caused the Rupture." I stared out the window at the passing streets. "Something that scared the VHC enough to erase him from existence. And something that’s attracted the attention of forces that make Seraphina Vance look like a minor inconvenience."
"That’s terrifying."
"Yeah."
"What are you going to do about it?"
I laughed. A short, humorless sound that echoed in the confined space of the car.
"What I always do. Survive. Adapt. Find a way to turn someone else’s game into my own. And hope that I’m smart enough and strong enough and lucky enough to keep the people I love safe while I figure out what the hell is actually going on."
Natalia lifted her head. Her violet eyes met mine.
"You said people you love."
"I did."
"Plural."
"Yeah."
She was quiet for a long moment. Then she leaned in and kissed me again. Softer this time. Gentler. A kiss that spoke of acceptance rather than possession.
"We’re going to have a long conversation about boundaries when we get home," she murmured against my lips. "And expectations. And exactly how this whole situation is going to work going forward."
"I know."
"But first, I’m going to drag you into my bedroom and remind you exactly who your Queen is. Because three days of feeling you with another woman has left me with some very specific needs that require immediate attention."
My body responded to her words before my brain could catch up. The heat of her against me. The promise in her voice. The dark, hungry look in her eyes.
"Your parents?"
"At a conference in the Capital District. Won’t be back until tomorrow evening." Her hand slid down my chest, over my stomach, lower. "We have approximately eighteen hours of privacy. I intend to use every single one of them."
The car pulled to a stop outside the Nakano-Kuzmina residence. The familiar two-story house looked the same as always. Neat lawn. Trimmed hedges. The kind of suburban perfection that concealed the absolute chaos happening behind closed doors.
Natalia stepped out of the car first, her dress riding up just enough to flash a glimpse of black lace beneath. She looked back over her shoulder at me.
"Coming?"
I scrambled after her like my life depended on it.
The front door barely closed before she had me pinned against it. Her mouth found mine with the accuracy of someone who had spent months learning exactly how I liked to be kissed. Her fingers worked at my jacket, my tie, my shirt buttons, stripping away layers with a focus that bordered on manic.
"I could feel everything," she breathed between kisses. "Every time she touched you. Every time you made her scream. Every time she whispered that she loved you."
"Natalia—"
"Shut up." She bit my lower lip hard enough to sting. "I’m not finished."
My shirt hit the floor. Her dress followed a moment later, pooling at her feet in a puddle of black fabric. She stood before me in nothing but matching lace underwear, her body a study in contradictions: soft curves and hard muscle, feminine grace and barely contained violence.
The Cryo-Lich Ring glittered on her finger. The evidence of my enhancement. The proof that she was mine in ways that went far beyond the physical.
"Three days," she repeated. Her hands found my belt buckle. "Three days of torture. Three days of watching you fall in love with someone else while I sat here alone."
"I didn’t fall in love with her."
"Liar." The belt came free. Her fingers hooked into my waistband. "I felt it, Satori. When you held her while she cried about losing her powers. When you told her she was worth more than her abilities. When you promised her that you would fix everything." She shoved my pants down with more force than strictly necessary. "You meant every word. And I felt every single one of them."
I grabbed her wrists. Stopped her hands from going any further.
"Look at me."
Her violet eyes blazed with anger and hurt and something that looked dangerously close to tears.
"I do love her," I said quietly. "The same way I love Emi. The same way I love Skylar. The same way I’m learning to love all of them. But none of that changes what you are to me, Natalia. None of that diminishes what we have. You were the first. You will always be the first. And when this is all over, when I’ve built my kingdom and secured our future and dealt with whatever cosmic horror is lurking in the shadows, you will be sitting beside me on that throne. Not behind me. Beside me. As my Queen."
A single tear escaped down her cheek. She wiped it away with the back of her hand, looking annoyed at herself for showing weakness.
"You’re so full of shit."
"Probably."
"And you’re going to break my heart someday."
"Definitely not."
"And I hate that I believe you." She grabbed my face with both hands and kissed me hard enough to bruise. "Now shut up and take me to bed before I lose what’s left of my self-control."
I picked her up. Her legs wrapped around my waist instinctively, and she made a small sound of surprise that transformed into a moan when I pressed her against the wall. The cold surface against her back. The heat of my body against her front. The perfect contradiction that was Natalia Kuzmina.
"Bedroom," she gasped. "My bedroom. Not the hallway."
"I thought you wanted me to take you to bed."
"I did. Not against the wall like some kind of animal."
"You sure? Because the wall seemed pretty interested."
She bit my shoulder in retaliation. Hard enough to leave marks.
I carried her up the stairs, kicking open the door to her room and depositing her onto the bed with significantly less grace than I’d intended. She bounced once, her purple hair spreading across the pillows like a violet halo, and then she was pulling me down on top of her.
Her underwear disappeared somewhere between the door and the bed. Mine followed suit. And then there was nothing between us but heat and need and months of built-up tension finally finding release.
"I love you," she whispered against my throat. "I love you so much it terrifies me."
"I know."
"And if you ever make me feel like that again, I will literally freeze your balls off."
"Also noted."
I entered her slowly. Deliberately. Watching her face as her eyes fluttered closed and her back arched off the mattress. The Nectar pulsed between us, amplifying every sensation until the boundary between where I ended and she began became impossible to distinguish.
This was different from Reyna. Different from anyone else. This was home. This was the woman who had seen me at my worst and chosen to stay anyway. Who had watched me manipulate and scheme and seduce and had decided that she wanted to be part of it rather than a victim of it.
This was my Queen. And I intended to worship her accordingly.
