Chapter 211: Chapter 211: Siege Mode

’How the hell did it get this close?’

"Shit!" Jaxon immediately raised his voice. "Everyone, get ready!"

Natasha and Na-rin reacted without hesitation, raising their pistols and firing into the sky.

THUP! THUP! THUP!

The bullets struck the creature, but it barely flinched. It continued diving toward them at terrifying speed, its movements resembling a massive hawk hunting its prey.

Jaxon swung his DMR upward and pulled the trigger.

THUP! The round slammed directly into the creature’s chest.

A massive hole was blown through its body, sending blood and chunks of flesh flying out from its back.

Yet its momentum didn’t even slow down.

Instead, the creature folded its body forward and spread its enormous wings. Its hooked claws extended toward them as it accelerated.

It was already too close.

Jaxon’s eyes widened. "GET DOWN!"

He recalled his DMR into his storage space and quickly opened the System Store.

[100 Coins spent. Portable Blast Shield successfully purchased.]

A thick metal shield suddenly materialized in his hands.

Jaxon barely had time to plant his feet before he shoved the shield forward.

BOOOOOOOM! The infected slammed into him with a monstrous impact.

Jaxon’s entire body was driven backward as the shield buckled under the force. His arms shook violently, it felt as if the bones in them were about to snap.

He gritted his teeth and refused to let go.

The shield absorbed most of the first impact, but the Hilux behind him couldn’t withstand the force.

The creature’s momentum traveled through Jaxon’s body and into the vehicle.

CRAAACK! The metal beneath his feet bent and collapsed.

The Hilux’s rear suspension gave out, and one of its tires burst with a deafening bang as the vehicle lurched violently to the side.

"AHHH! FUCK!"

Natasha and Na-rin were ripped from their positions in the truck bed as the vehicle began rolling. Jaxon lost his grip on the shield and was thrown across the road.

CRAAASH! The windshield shattered on impact, while the side windows exploded outward as the Hilux scraped across the pavement, throwing sparks and twisted pieces of metal in every direction.

Jaxon was thrown from the truck bed and hit the ground hard. He rolled several times across the pavement before finally coming to a stop, his body aching from the impact.

"KRAAAAAH!"

The flying infected let out a monstrous roar as it pulled away from the wrecked vehicle, its claws scraping against the pavement. It spread its massive wings and began lifting itself into the air, preparing to take off again.

But before it could take off, the military truck came to a sudden stop behind it. The brakes screeched against the pavement, and before the vehicle had even fully settled, Thomas threw open the door and jumped out, the M249 SAW already in his hands.

"FIRE!"

Thomas planted his feet and activated Siege Mode.

The M249 anchored itself to the ground, transforming into a heavy mounted weapon. He immediately pulled the trigger, unleashing a continuous stream of bullets.

RATATATATAT!

Elena, Cindy, Claire, Hae-in, Hannah, and the twins opened fire as well, filling the road with gunshots.

Bullets tore through its wings and body, ripping away chunks of flesh as it desperately struggled to take off.

"Don’t let it get back into the air!" Elena shouted.

The creature desperately flapped its massive wings, trying to lift itself from the ground, but its movements grew weaker with every passing second. More bullets tore through its body until one of its wings finally gave out.

Its enormous body crashed back onto the road and twitched violently.

Thomas kept firing for several more seconds, making sure it wouldn’t get back up, before finally releasing the trigger. Smoke drifted from the barrel of his M249 as the gunfire died down and everyone lowered their weapons.

The moment the creature stopped moving, everyone rushed toward the wreckage.

"Jaxon! Natasha! Na-rin! Elaine..."

Jaxon groaned as he pushed himself off the pavement. His entire body screamed in pain, and his ears were still ringing from the crash.

’Natasha... Mom... Na-rin... Elaine...’

He staggered to his feet and immediately looked around.

"Where are they?" His eyes landed on the wrecked Hilux, and his stomach tightened.

"Jaxon!" Elena’s voice pulled him back to reality. She and the others were already helping the people who had been inside the vehicle, dragging them away from the wreckage.

"Haris is alive!" Hae-in shouted. "He’s unconscious, but he’s breathing!"

"Isabel and Sumiko are okay too! Bong-gu and Elaine are with them!"

Jaxon barely heard her. His eyes continued scanning the road, desperately searching for the others.

Then he saw them.

Several meters away, Natasha slowly pushed herself up from the pavement. Blood trickled down from a cut on her forehead, while scratches covered her arms and face. She winced as pain shot through her body, but she forced herself to sit up.

"Natasha!" Jaxon immediately ran toward her and dropped to one knee beside her.

"Jaxon..." Natasha looked up at him, her voice weak. "I’m fine. Don’t worry about me."

"Let me see." He carefully checked her arms and shoulders, then ran his hands along her sides to make sure there were no obvious broken bones. Natasha grimaced when his hand reached her ribs.

"That hurts?"

"A little."

"Then you’re not fine."

"I said a little," Natasha muttered, though a faint smile appeared on her face.

Jaxon let out a relieved breath before turning toward Na-rin.

She was lying several meters away, still conscious but barely moving. Blood stained her clothes, while bruises and scratches were already forming across her arms and face.

"Na-rin!" Jaxon rushed over and crouched beside her.

Na-rin slowly opened her eyes. "Jaxon..."

"Can you move?"

She tried to push herself up but immediately winced and stopped.

"My whole body hurts..."

"Don’t move."

Jaxon carefully checked her over. She had several deep scratches on her shoulder and bruises all over her legs, but thankfully, there didn’t seem to be any major bleeding or obvious fractures.

"We’ll get you back to the truck."

With the others’ help, they carefully carried Natasha, Na-rin, and the others toward the military truck. Jaxon immediately opened his Storage Space and pulled out a first-aid kit.

"We need to leave," he said urgently, glancing toward the direction of the city. "If more of those things show up, we won’t survive another attack."

Everyone quickly climbed into the military truck. Thomas took the driver’s seat and started the engine before pulling away from the wreckage.
