My SSS-Rank Grim Reaper System
Chapter 282: THE HUMILIATION
The angel kept calculating.
Ten meters. Wings at the reduced angle — the left now matching the right, two degrees less than full opening before the fifteenth cut. The angel’s eyes without legible expression, but the body showing what the eyes didn’t: the posture of something that had lost the equation’s main variable.
No constructs in the space between them.
The angel wasn’t materializing.
---
F7 delivered the reading without Alex asking.
Angel’s channel: recovering capacity, but slowly. The cost of the direct authorization column plus the cost of the seventy?one constructs destroyed in ninety seconds had emptied the channel completely. Now, with the channel recovering, the angel was processing two simultaneous variables: channel recovery and evaluation of what had just occurred.
Divided.
F7 identified it clearly — the Gods’?plane equivalent of an overloaded system trying to execute two processes in parallel without sufficient capacity for both.
**"The channel will recover the minimum in six seconds,"** said Grim.
**"I know."**
**"If you wait for it to materialize—"**
**"I’m not going to wait."**
---
Alex advanced the ten meters in four steps.
The angel didn’t materialize constructs — the channel without capacity yet. The wings opened toward the full?authorization position: the defensive reflex, the territory responding to the Gods’ plane.
The crimson scythe to the left wing — not the root, the wing’s center. Not to cut structural tissue but for F1’s black edge entering the wing’s surface where the Gods’ plane’s white?light feathers formed the main curvature.
The black edge wasn’t a conventional blade. It was the plane between life and death.
The light feathers didn’t deflect. They separated — permanently. No regeneration in process, no wound the Gods’ plane was going to heal with authorization. Each feather the black edge touched left the angel’s cycle forever.
Twelve feathers. Fifteen. Twenty?two.
The angel emitted the Gods’?plane equivalent of an involuntary sound — the third in the fight, the longest.
---
The angel’s wings closed.
Not into speed position — into protection position. The angel closing its wings against its body, the posture no previous combat pattern had produced.
Alex saw the closure.
The violet scythe of F4 to the angel’s body — to the left torso, the zone where the impossible?colored blood still showed the edges of previous cuts not fully closed. F4 didn’t cut with F1’s black edge — it cut with the edge of the plane between corruption and integrity, the material the angel couldn’t classify in its response system because it hadn’t been in the Gods’ record for this cycle.
The sixteenth cut.
The impossible?colored blood at four points on the angel’s torso now — the pattern of previous cuts visible as a map on the body of the Gods’ envoy.
The angel separated — not ten meters, not eight. Three. Only three.
The channel had recovered the minimum.
---
Sixteen constructs in the space between them in 1.8 seconds — not the fight’s opening 1.2, the channel still with accumulated friction. White?light spears in the angel’s standard formation.
Alex cut them without changing his advance speed.
The black edge sweeping the left arc — eight destroyed. The violet edge in diagonal — five more. Three grazed his right side.
HP: 0. The number didn’t change.
Alex kept advancing.
---
**"It’s materializing less,"** said Grim. **"Sixteen. The maximum was forty?eight."**
**"The channel didn’t fully recover."**
**"No. And the feathers F1 cut—"**
**"They don’t come back."**
**"No. The Gods’?plane authorization keeps the wings functional even without the feathers — but the left wing’s movement range is reduced. It won’t be able to do the five?trunk simultaneous coverage with the compromised angle."**
Alex didn’t respond.
He advanced two more steps.
---
The angel tried full authorization.
The wings opening to maximum — or trying to. The left wing opened ninety?five percent of full wingspan. The right eighty?seven. The two degrees of structural damage from the twelfth cut plus F1’s feathers producing an asymmetric opening — the Gods’ plane responding to the Silent Threshold but with uneven distribution.
The ground began to harden beneath Alex’s feet.
Not completely. Partially — the zone in front of the angel responding, the zone behind and right?lateral without response yet.
The angel noticed the asymmetric distribution at the same moment as Alex.
---
The crimson scythe to the right wing — to the root, the same point as the twelfth cut.
The angel closed the wing in the last second. The right wing folding before impact — the crimson scythe cutting the outer edge instead of the root, twelve more right?wing feathers leaving the cycle permanently.
The angel opened the left wing to maximum trying to compensate.
The violet scythe was waiting for that.
The seventeenth cut — to the open left wing, to the curvature’s center. Not the root this time. The center — the point of maximum exposed surface. F4’s edge entering the left wing’s membrane four centimeters.
The angel closed both wings simultaneously.
The territory’s full authorization collapsed.
The trees that had begun to rise fell back to the Threshold’s ground. The earth that had started to harden yielded again.
---
Three meters between them.
The angel without full territory authorization. Constructs materializing in the space — twelve this time, eight — Alex destroying each group before the next began. F1’s black edge doing the permanent work, each destroyed construct adding friction to the already saturated channel.
The angel stepped back.
Alex advanced.
The angel materialized six constructs — the lowest count of the fight since the initial exchange.
Alex cut them in one arc.
Kept advancing.
---
**"The channel is at its limit,"** said Grim. **"Six constructs in 2.4 seconds when the start maximum was 1.2. The channel has less than thirty percent transmission capacity."**
**"What happens when it reaches zero?"**
**"The angel loses the connection to the Gods’ plane temporarily. Not permanently — the Gods will reestablish it. But in the time it takes to reestablish—"**
**"The angel can’t materialize anything."**
**"It can’t do anything an angel does."**
Alex looked at the angel’s two wings — partially folded, the asymmetry between left and right visible in the fold angle. The black?edge feathers absent at twelve points on the left wing and seventeen on the right.
It wasn’t a body in combat. It was a body in damage management.
---
The angel didn’t materialize more constructs.
The channel at its limit — F7 read it in real time. The angel choosing not to spend remaining capacity on constructs Alex would destroy before impact. Saving what was left of the channel for something else.
Alex saw it and went toward the angel.
Not in diagonal. Directly.
The angel tried to close the distance to strike — the body movement, the same force that in the first fight had launched Alex thirty meters. The last direct tactic available.
F7 read the wing adjustment 1.3 seconds before.
F4 positioned one step to the lateral.
The crimson scythe entered through the angel’s left side as the angel passed — the eighteenth cut, deep, into tissue none of the previous cuts had reached. The impossible?colored blood fell to the ground in a volume different from previous cuts — more, the deepest cut of the fight.
The angel stumbled.
It didn’t fall. But the angel’s foot dragged the Silent Threshold’s ground — the first time in the fight the angel lost balance.
---
It stopped at five meters.
It didn’t step back. Didn’t advance.
Wings folded completely against the body — not in speed position, not in authorization position. Folded. The posture of something containing what it can to avoid losing more.
The angel’s eyes on Alex.
Eighteen cuts. Both wings with structural damage and Gods’?plane feathers permanently absent. The channel at transmission capacity’s limit. Balance compromised.
The angel didn’t attack.
---
Alex stopped at two meters.
He didn’t advance further.
Both scythes in his hands — the crimson, the violet. HP at zero and F7 sustaining and the angel two meters away without constructs, without territory authorization, without full balance.
**"What are you doing?"** said Grim.
**"Letting it see."**
Silence.
**"That it got here,"** said Alex. **"That it got here and can’t pass."**
---
The angel two meters away.
The angel’s eyes processing what the eyes couldn’t process — the bearer with HP at zero, two active scythes, F7 reading the angel’s channel in real time. The Gods’ envoy built for this cycle specifically, with the complete record of every previous bearer, with the Gods’ plane direct authorization sustaining its existence.
Two meters away.
Unable to advance.
---
The crimson scythe moved.
Not toward the body. To the ground — F1’s black edge tracing a line in the Silent Threshold’s earth directly in front of the angel. Not a cut to the angel. A mark on the territory.
A line.
The Threshold’s territory responded to the black edge — the line remained marked in the ground permanently, the plane between life and death engraved in the seventh space’s earth.
The angel looked at the line.
Then looked at Alex.
**"This far,"** said Alex.
---
The angel didn’t respond.
Not in the Gods’?plane language. Not with constructs. Not with movement.
The eyes processing.
The line in the Threshold’s ground between them — F1’s black edge marking the limit the angel built by the Gods for this cycle hadn’t been able to cross.
Eighteen cuts on the envoy’s body. Wings compromised. Channel at its limit. And the bearer standing with HP at zero on the other side of a line in the ground telling it *this far*.
It wasn’t tactical victory.
It was something else.
---
F7 delivered the information without Alex asking.
In cycle 42. The original Harvester. There hadn’t been a line in the ground — it had been different in form. But in structure it was the same: the moment when the Gods’ envoy stopped calculating how to win and started calculating what it meant to have gotten here and not been able to pass.
The Gods had built cycle 42’s angel for a specific bearer with a specific pattern.
The original Harvester had been something else.
Cycle 42’s angel had processed that.
Now the current cycle’s angel was processing the same thing — the bearer in front of it wasn’t the bearer the Gods had modeled. It didn’t have the answers for the bearer in front of it.
---
F7 delivered a second reading.
Not of cycle 42. Of the current angel. Of the angel’s channel.
The channel wasn’t completely at its limit.
There was enough capacity for one more action. One. The angel had saved that capacity during the last four exchanges — hadn’t spent it on constructs when Alex destroyed them because it was saving that last reserve for a specific moment.
**"Grim,"** said Alex quietly.
**"I see it,"** said Grim. **"One action. The angel chose which."**
**"Which?"**
Grim took a second.
**"I don’t know. It isn’t in cycle 42’s record."**
---
The angel used the remaining capacity.
Not materialization. Not authorization column. Not the territory.
The angel extended its right hand — not toward Alex. Toward its flank. And in the space beside the angel, something from the Gods’ plane materialized that had no form in the Silent Threshold’s language.
Not a construct. Not a spear. Not a combat form.
Something different.
F7 read it for 1.2 seconds before delivering the reading — longer than it had taken to read anything else in the fight.
**"It’s a record,"** said Grim. **"The angel is opening the channel to the Gods’ plane. Not to receive authorization. To transmit."**
**"Transmit what?"**
**"What it saw. What it’s seeing. The whole fight — the eighteen cuts, F1’s feathers, the line in the ground."**
Pause.
**"The Gods are watching it in real time."**
---
Alex didn’t move.
The angel transmitting. The angel’s channel using its last reserve not to attack — so the Gods saw exactly this. The bearer with HP at zero on the other side of the line. The two scythes. F7 active. Eighteen cuts on the envoy.
The line in the Silent Threshold’s ground engraved with the black edge of the plane between life and death.
**"And what does that mean?"** said Alex.
Grim took longer than before.
**"That the angel isn’t calculating how to win anymore,"** said Grim. **"It’s reporting that it can’t."**
---
The Gods’?plane object beside the angel dissolved.
The angel’s channel closed — transmission capacity at zero. Wings still folded. The eighteen cuts still present on the envoy’s body. The impossible?colored blood on the Threshold’s ground at eighteen points.
The angel two meters from the line Alex had marked in the earth.
Without action.
Without preparation for the next action.
---
From the ground, Raven saw it.
The 521 units and 12 golems of F3 motionless in the perimeter. Her left hand still on her abdomen. HP at zero but conscious — she had been conscious since the fight’s start, counting the cuts, watching Alex advance with HP at zero while F7 sustained what the body couldn’t.
The angel couldn’t cross the line.
Raven said nothing.
It wasn’t the moment for words.
---
From the flank, Seraph watched.
HP at zero, conscious, her eyes on the angel two meters from the line. The ex?Paladin who had faced the angel with F2 active and had applied the first seven cuts. The first real damage to the Gods’ envoy in this cycle.
Seraph knew the difference between a fight that ends because the opponent falls and a fight that ends because the opponent can’t continue.
This was the second.
The angel hadn’t fallen.
It wasn’t going to fall.
But it couldn’t continue either — not while the bearer with HP at zero was on the other side of the line with both scythes active and F7 reading every channel variable in real time.
---
The angel didn’t move for seventeen seconds.
F7 counting. The angel’s channel at zero. Wings folded. Eyes processing.
And then the angel did something it hadn’t done at any moment in the fight.
It lowered its gaze.
Not to the ground. Not to the line. To the eighteen points where the impossible?colored blood marked the body of the envoy built for this cycle.
It wasn’t a long gesture. Two seconds, perhaps three.
But F7 registered it and delivered it without delay.
In cycle 42, the angel had never lowered its gaze.
---
Alex lowered the scythes.
He didn’t withdraw them. He lowered them — the black edge and the violet edge pointing to the Threshold’s ground instead of at the angel.
The angel raised its gaze.
The two motionless two meters from the line — the bearer with HP at zero who shouldn’t be standing and the Gods’ envoy with eighteen cuts and an empty channel that hadn’t been able to cross a line in the ground.
**"F7 has something else,"** said Grim quietly.
**"What?"**
**"The original Harvester in cycle 42. What it said when it reached this point."**
Alex waited.
**"Nothing,"** said Grim. **"The original Harvester said nothing. It didn’t lower the scythes either."**
Pause.
**"You’re different."**
---
The angel looked at the line in the ground.
Then looked at Alex.
The angel’s channel at zero — without capacity to materialize, without capacity to transmit, without capacity to connect to the Gods’ plane. The Gods’ envoy completely alone in the Silent Threshold for the first time since its arrival on the Eastern Island.
Without constructs.
Without territory authorization.
Without the column.
Without the record of how to respond to this.
Just — in the Silent Threshold, two meters from a line it hadn’t been able to cross, facing a bearer who had lowered the scythes.
---
The Gods were watching.
The angel knew it — it had transmitted the full fight before the channel reached zero. The Gods had the record: eighteen cuts, the permanently absent feathers, the line in the ground, the emptied channel.
The envoy built for this cycle.
The first real defeat of something the Gods had built specifically.
---
The angel didn’t cross the line.
