Chapter 1014 - 1017: They Must Apologize to Me

"You..." A soldier behind the councilman glared at her.

"Alright, if Miss Thorne isn’t lying, I’ll agree to apologize to you. Let’s start now." The councilman gestured invitingly.

Melody Thorne placed her hand on the device, internally reciting the Heart Clarity Spell.

She must stay calm, she absolutely must remain calm.

"Miss Thorne, I’ll ask you one more time, have you actually seen this item?" The councilman raised the painting again, prompting her to look at it and answer.

"No," Melody Thorne replied crisply, "I haven’t seen it."

Several soldiers eyed the lie detector; if someone lied, the device would certainly react, but after Melody Thorne spoke, it remained motionless.

"Really haven’t seen it?" The councilman squinted.

"No!"

Melody Thorne withdrew her hand, calmly stating, "Now, can my name be cleared? Councilman, you and your people must apologize to me."

The councilman’s eyes shifted to the soldier beside him, his face ashen.

How could it be that there was nothing?

Melody Thorne was the most suspicious person, how could there be nothing?

"Knock knock," a sound came from outside the door.

A soldier opened the door, and little Timmy immediately ran towards the tall figure entering, complaining as he ran, "Dad, you’re finally here. Earlier, Melody and I were almost falsely accused to death. "The way Councilman invited her over truly is unique; didn’t even notify me, and even used the lie detector." Jared Quinn’s handsome features tensed, "So, did you find out anything?"

"Nothing, Miss Thorne is innocent. We absolutely won’t doubt her again in the future. She truly hasn’t seen the item we’re looking for. I was just about to have someone return her and the young master home."

The councilman’s rank was high, but he was wary of the Quinn and Seymour families’ influence, so he spoke very politely.

"I hope there won’t be a next time." Jared Quinn pulled Melody Thorne, "Let’s go."

"Wait," Melody Thorne was still seething with anger, not so easily appeased.

Pointing at the lie detector, she spoke, "I just said I’m innocent, yet they suspected I was lying and used this on me. I said earlier, if I’m not lying, they need to apologize to me."

"Miss Thorne, my apologies for the disturbance this incident caused you. I apologize on behalf of everyone here," a soldier spoke up.

The apology was insincere, but she was satisfied; after all, she was the one lying, and the machine was indeed useless.
