Chapter 509: Chapter 509: Come and Learn a Little

Evan Keller stood up from his seat and motioned for a few people, including Sean Hughes, to go with him.

After a moment of thought, Evan Keller looked at Zoe Sawyer and asked, "Zoe, do you want to come with us and check it out?"

Wren Rowan’s situation was unique. She had just been through a murder case, had severe social anxiety, and had trouble communicating with others.

The group heading over would be mostly men, which might add to her psychological stress. It would be good to bring Zoe along; maybe seeing more female officers would help her relax.

Zoe Sawyer considered it for a moment, then nodded and agreed to go.

Just as she stood up, she seemed to think of something and turned to look at Heath Hale, only to find him already watching her.

"Do you want to come with us?" Zoe asked, meeting Heath Hale’s gaze as she extended the invitation.

Almost instantly, a smile touched Heath Hale’s lips. He nodded without hesitation and joined the group.

Sean Hughes knew the location of Wren Rowan’s new residence. The group drove over as quickly as possible and arrived downstairs.

Sitting in the car, Sean Hughes called Wren Rowan to let her know they had arrived and asked her to come down with her ID.

It seemed Wren Rowan was already prepared. Less than a minute after the call ended, she came running downstairs, out of breath.

Upon seeing Evan Keller and the others, Wren Rowan instinctively flinched.

Then, at Sean Hughes’s prompting, she got into the police car where Zoe was.

When she saw Zoe Sawyer inside, Wren Rowan let out a sigh of relief. ’Thank goodness, there’s another female officer.’

Evan Keller saw Wren Rowan’s expression in the rearview mirror and knew he had made the right move.

Wren Rowan quietly told Evan Keller her aunt’s address.

"It’s not far, we can be there in an hour. Sean, contact the local police department," Evan Keller said after checking the address.

"Alright, I’ll contact them now." Sean Hughes immediately took out his phone, got in touch with the local police, and explained the situation.

Watching Evan Keller and Sean Hughes discussing the matter in the front seats, Wren Rowan’s heart finally settled a little.

’They’ll definitely be able to solve my aunt’s family’s problem!’

Zoe Sawyer noticed Wren Rowan’s anxiety and patted her on the arm. "Don’t worry," she said reassuringly. "Evan and the others are very capable. They’ll definitely figure out who tricked your cousin into signing that contract.

"You can trust us police to handle it. And try not to be so nervous. Your aunt and your cousin are counting on you to solve this."

Hearing this, Wren Rowan took a deep breath and suppressed the anxiety that had been building up.

Soon, the police car arrived at its destination.

As soon as she got out of the car, Wren Rowan saw several men in black suits standing on the ground floor of the residential building.

The government had been concerned that the aunt’s intellectually disabled son might accidentally fall from an upper floor, so they had specially arranged for the family to be assigned a ground-floor apartment.

And right now, two men were standing at her aunt’s door, knocking relentlessly.

The door remained closed, and it was silent inside, with not a single sound, as if no one was home.

However, Zoe Sawyer’s sharp eyes caught a sliver of light coming from beneath the curtains of the balcony window.

’The aunt’s home. She’s following our instructions not to answer the door, no matter how much they knock.’

Several residents from the complex were gathered nearby, watching. They whispered among themselves from time to time, pointing at the scene.

"What’s going on with the Rowan family? Did they really mortgage their apartment?" Auntie A frowned as she stared at the men in black suits, her voice full of confusion.

"No way, that’s impossible. The Rowan family’s boy is a fool. I just saw him the other day playing in the sand with the neighborhood kids.

"How could a fool like that sign for a loan?" Auntie B shook her head, her tone certain. "Someone must have tricked them. Just wait, the Rowan family’s girl will be back soon."

"So what if she knows? Is she going to argue with the bank?" Unlike the other two, Auntie C crossed her arms, a hint of disdain in her eyes. "You mean that Rowan girl who’s afraid to even see people? With this many people around, she’ll be the first one to be tongue-tied!

"Besides, it doesn’t matter how that fool borrowed the money. The fact is, he borrowed it. The thumbprint on that contract is no joke. A debt must be paid—that’s just how it is!

"And anyway, that Rowan girl isn’t even on their household register. What right does she have to meddle in this?"

Wren Rowan, who had just gotten out of the car, heard all of this. The last sentence was too much for her. She walked over, her tone unusually harsh. "The police will determine the facts!

"If the police say our family has to accept this, then we’ll do so without complaint.

"As for whether I’m on my aunt’s household register or have the right to get involved, you don’t need to worry about that!" Wren Rowan stared intently at Auntie C, enunciating every word.

Auntie C was startled by Wren Rowan’s sudden appearance. Realizing the person she’d been talking about had overheard her and was now confronting her, she patted her chest awkwardly. "We were just worried about you. Young lady, why do you have to be so aggressive?"

The other two women didn’t say anything. Instead, they turned and saw Zoe Sawyer and the others getting out of the car.

Their faces filled with astonishment. ’She really called the police and brought them here!’

Wren Rowan ignored Auntie C and walked back to Sean Hughes’s side. "Officer Hughes," she asked in a low voice, "what do you need me to do now?"

"Call your aunt and tell her to open the door. The police are here. You don’t have to worry about the rest," Sean Hughes said, patting Wren Rowan’s shoulder reassuringly.

The commotion quickly attracted the attention of the men in black suits, both those standing guard on the ground floor and the ones who had been knocking on the door.

Wren Rowan paid them no mind. Following Sean Hughes’s instructions, she called her aunt and told her that she was at the door with the police and that it was safe to open up.

Just then, one of the men in black suits approached with a smile. He stopped a short distance from Evan Keller and extended his hand. "Hello, Officer. We’re from the bank. You can just call me Cameron. This household mortgaged their property to our bank and took out a large loan of five million.

"They’ve now passed the repayment deadline stipulated in the contract, so we’re just here to repossess the property as per procedure.

"May I ask why you’re all here?"

Evan Keller showed him his badge, then gestured to Wren Rowan beside him. "Our department received a report that an intellectually disabled member of her family suddenly borrowed money from your company and mortgaged their home.

"We’d also like to see how this intellectually disabled individual, who has spent decades learning basic life skills, managed to mortgage a property and take out a loan."

The man in the black suit, Cameron, froze. For a moment, he didn’t know how to respond to what Evan Keller had just said.

"Wren! You’re finally back!"
