Chapter 388: Chapter 28: Supreme Sword Heart, One Man Suppresses an Army

"Not many?!"

"Heh..." Liang Kun scoffed, incensed. "You’re only at the Cultivating Evil stage. What right do you have to say three thousand Foundation Establishment cultivators aren’t many?!"

"No, forget the three thousand Foundation Establishment cultivators! Just three thousand of those million Qi Cultivation-level Barbarian Ghosts would be more than enough to crush you!"

Zhong Ming had made him lose a great deal of face and recklessly sabotaged the peace talks. Liang Kun was furious with him for being so ’oblivious to the bigger picture’.

As such, his attitude was now incredibly hostile. "If the fine young men of our Frost Moon Immortal Dynasty die in this foreign land, their blood will be on your hands!"

Faced with his furious accusation, many people inside the vast command tent remained silent.

They agreed with Liang Kun’s words and had no desire to fight for the Celestial Cloud Kingdom in this foreign land.

As for the argument that this would be letting a threat fester—people with foresight and courage are rare in any era. If it were otherwise, great men would not be so easily idolized.

Fortunately, while some were reluctant, others supported Zhong Ming—and the Silver Moon King was the most delighted of all to see this unfold.

"AHEM, Inspector Liang, you’re taking this a bit too far. Divine General Zhong Ming was correct. We did not provoke this war, and cowardice will only make the Barbarian Ghosts more brazen."

"Even if we want to negotiate, we must first fight. Only then can we secure favorable terms."

"Besides, this war is not without its potential profits. The Celestial Cloud Kingdom still has so many Spirit Fields and Spiritual Ores..."

Since remnants of the Celestial Cloud Kingdom—and even its princess—were present, the Silver Moon King didn’t speak too overtly. But everyone understood his underlying meaning and was quite tempted by the prospect.

A capitalist will sell the very rope to hang himself for 300% profit, and the lords of a feudal era were no different.

They had no interest in a profitless war, but the chance to acquire Spirit Fields and Spiritual Ores was another matter entirely.

"Inspector Liang, the Silver Moon King is right. We’ll have to clash with the Barbarian Ghosts eventually..."

DOOM! DOOM! DOOM!

The others’ arguments caused Liang Kun’s attitude to soften somewhat, and dangling the prospect of profit sent the morale of many of the assembled families soaring.

But just as things seemed to be heading in a better direction, the deep, desolate sound of war drums suddenly boomed from the distance.

It was followed by the sound of men and beasts stampeding, a rumble that shook the very earth.

"WHOOO..."

"The barbarians are attacking!"

The sudden noise made the faces of the Silver Moon King, the Celestial Sea King, and the others pale. They instinctively rushed out of the tent to get a clear view of the horizon.

There, they saw a black curtain, like a tidal wave, rolling in from the distant horizon.

"ROAR..."

His extraordinary vision and Pupil Technique allowed Zhong Ming to discern that the curtain was formed from a Magic Technique and innumerable Gu Insects.

Within that black curtain, the shadows of countless vicious demons roared and shrieked toward the human army’s formation.

Within the black curtain, thousands of Barbarian Ghosts—with menacing horns and livid, iron-hued skin, looking more like demons than men—were driving Barbaric Beasts in a charge toward the human army’s formation.

The war had begun.

Evidently, the Quanrong Barbarian Ghost tribe that came to negotiate had been prepared for either outcome, readying for war even as they talked of peace.

Zhong Ming’s earlier outburst had torn away all pretense, signaling to the enemy that negotiations had failed. And so, the war began instantly.

It had to be said, they had chosen their moment well. The newly arrived Celestial Patrol was exhausted in both body and mind—after all, not everyone got to travel aboard a luxury Flying Ship like Zhong Ming.

Furthermore, the Celestial Patrol had not yet established a proper encampment or even finished organizing their squadrons. The defensive line was at its most vulnerable.

’So they know how to seize an opportunity. Guess they’re not all brawn and no brains after all.’

Despite some initial chaos, the Silver Moon King’s legion remained unaffected.

"Silver Moon Legion, to battle!"

CLANK! CLATTER!

At the Silver Moon King’s command, thousands of Silver Moon Warriors took a single, unified step forward.

BOOM!

The unified step of tens of thousands of fully-equipped, elite soldiers made the very earth tremble again.

Following them were the remnants of the Celestial Cloud Kingdom’s army.

However, compared to the elite Silver Moon Legion, their ranks were ragged and filled with many wounded soldiers.

Nevertheless, their hearts were filled with hatred, and they did not shrink back from the charging Barbarian Ghosts.

"Damn it!"

The impending war made Liang Kun’s expression turn grim.

But, to Zhong Ming’s surprise, Liang Kun didn’t flee or have his guards escort him away, which earned him a small measure of respect.

Instead, he sent his own bodyguards to join the fight.

Of course, he wasn’t about to let Zhong Ming, the man who had caused him such humiliation, off the hook.

"Didn’t you say the Barbarian Ghosts were nothing special?!"

"Well, they’re here now! Go on, go fight them!"

In the face of Liang Kun’s taunt, Zhong Ming simply gave a casual shrug.

"You don’t have to tell me. Of course I’m going to fight. In fact, I’ll be leading the charge!"

As he spoke, Zhong Ming shot into the air and flew toward the front lines.

As he flew, his figure continued to climb steadily higher.

This sight made the Silver Moon King’s eyebrows jump, and he instinctively shouted a warning to Zhong Ming.

"Don’t fly so high! This is war, not a performance! If you’re too high, you’ll be too conspicuous! You’ll draw all their fire!"

"Get down here and blend in with the others!"

Although Zhong Ming’s earlier actions had enraged Liang Kun, they had been extremely advantageous for the Silver Moon King.

For that reason, he held Zhong Ming in high regard and genuinely wanted him to survive.
