There was an almost ridiculous chasm between the woman Phei had spent no less than a week making love to and the stern Nether Goddess now standing several meters away from him, calmly watching the space between Phei and the sword-wielding beauty facing him.
Surely Sienna was not serious... right?
Phei himself barely knew who the girl was.
Surely he’d had seen her with Old Man Hayashi before, usually accompanied by another young man who looked perhaps four or five years older than Phei and handsome; Phei had easily simply assumed the two were Hayashi’s children.
But he had never bothered asking for names because every time he wanted to, something considerably more important had been happening around him, and although the girl was beautiful enough to cause a war between two kingdoms had not exactly helped her stand out when Phei’s daily life already surrounded him with women who would have caused entire ancient dynasties to collapse from poor decision-making.
’She is undeniably beautiful.’
Her long dark hair framed an elegant face carrying far more confidence than warmth, while the sword resting at her side looked less like decoration and more like something she had spent years learning to turn into an extension of her body.
Her figure was athletic without losing any feminine softness, and the short skirt she wore certainly did not make Phei’s attempt at respectable observation any easier.
He simply had no deep desire to pursue her right now since all Phei wanted was to go home to meet his family; Melissa and husband child especially.
His perception had already spread far beyond the island beneath his feet, crossing the expansive lake and settling over Paradise Island where one familiar presence after another appeared within his senses. He could feel his women there, the people he had left behind only two weeks ago according to their time, even though it had been an entire year that had passed for him.
Then his perception found Melissa.
Phei’s expression changed immediately.
The urge to simply disappear from this place and appear beside her was almost painful:
All he wanted right now was to wrap his arms around her, bury his face against her hair and inhale her scent he missed so much, hold her close and put his hand around that little berry again just to feel his child beneath his palm.
He had spent nearly a year missing that sensation, and now she was close enough that one Void Step could erase the distance between them.
Unfortunately, Sienna existed.
Phei sighed and looked toward the girl again.
Her mouth had begun twitching faintly because he had spent the better part of the last minute treating the coming spar as though it were an inconvenience someone had placed between him and dinner.
He glanced toward Sienna. "You’re actually serious about this?"
Sienna gave a small nod. "Fight her, and I’ll let you go."
Phei stared at her for a moment before looking toward Paradise Island again. "You do realize I can teleport from here faster than you can react, right?"
Sienna’s expression remained almost painfully calm. "Do you want to test that, Husband?"
The question came so casually that Phei immediately decided this was one of those situations where intelligence meant knowing when not to prove a point, while the sword beauty’s eyes were wide hearing Sienna call Phei husband.
Sienna continued before he could answer. "Besides, you promised you would do one thing for me when we get back here."
Phei exhaled through his nose because that part was annoyingly true.
Before leaving the frozen home, Sienna had asked whether he would do something for her, and after spending an entire week together with him in an extremely agreeable mood, Phei had said yes without bothering to ask what the favor actually was.
"That I did," he admitted before looking toward the girl opposite him again. "I just didn’t know the favor involved fighting a girl."
The girl’s lips twitched harder.
Phei noticed the shift immediately and lifted one hand in surrender, though the grin already spreading across his face ruined any chance of him looking particularly innocent.
"Okay, that came out badly. You see, when women are involved, I generally prefer a much softer kind of fighting."
His gaze slid toward Sienna with absolutely shameless intent before he pointed at her like she had just become supporting evidence in a trial he had every intention of losing.
"She knows exactly what I mean."
Sienna’s violet eyes narrowed.
Phei’s grin widened.
The problem, naturally, was that his eyes had already betrayed him by drifting over her in a way that made it very clear he was thinking about anything except combat. His attention lingered on her waist for half a second too long, then her lips, then returned to her eyes with the expression of a man who had just discovered a highly educational battlefield.
"Much better kind of sparring," he added. "Closer range. Less clothing... and significantly more enjoyable body-to-body recovery period."
Sienna stared at him with the cold dignity like she was deciding whether homicide would damage the mood.
Phei looked delighted: "What? I’m complimenting your fighting style... goddess."
Yuzuki knew exactly what the perverted young master meant without needing any further explanation.
She also did not need to look toward the Nether Goddess, because directly staring at that woman for too long was one of those things cultivators learned not to do without a very good reason. Had Yuzuki possessed enough audacity to glance sideways, however, she would have seen Sienna subtly shift one hand lower over her nether region while retreating half a step, a faint redness already beginning to spread across her cheeks.
Phei noticed that too: ’Yeah, I went hard on you, didn’t I?’
It had taken Healing Touch and almost an entire day of proper rest before Sienna recovered enough to bring them back despite how powerful she was now.
Phei had expected to return straight to his family afterward, but the moment they arrived, Yuzuki was already waiting and Sienna immediately told him they were going to spar.
Now that he could properly sense her cultivation, Phei understood at least part of the reason.
Yuzuki was a Sky Sovereign; the same cultivation Realm as him.
That was probably why Sienna wanted them to fight. She wanted to see what a year inside the Primordial Frozen Zone had actually done to Phei when measured against someone standing at the same cultivation realm as him and someone who had been trained properly instead of learning through the educational method of almost dying every day and being hunted by an army of beasts.
The only problem was that Phei was beginning to wonder whether Sienna secretly disliked the girl.
He would not kill Yuzuki, obviously, but the Frozen Zone had done unfortunate things to his understanding of restraint. The Dragon Lady and a year of battles where everything stronger than him attacked with the intention of tearing him apart had taught Phei to fight toward with the intent of murder rather than points and he did not know how to fight without an aim to kill.
If something raised a weapon, he disabled it.
If something created distance, he closed it.
If something left an opening, he attacked through it hard enough that the opening never mattered again and kill it.
There had been no referees inside the Primordial Frozen Zone and certainly no one telling him to remember elegant swordsmanship and elegant combat while a World Transcendent tried driving him through six kilometers of ancient ice.
How was he supposed to suddenly become gentle?
