My Taming System Makes Me Overpowered
Chapter 213: The celestial executioner
Far above the lower atmosphere, beyond the veil of storm-clouds and shifting spatial rifts that bound the Uncharted Lands, hung the Obelisk of Absolute Law.
It was a structure forged not from stone or steel, but from condensed, solid white celestial aura. It floated silently in the void of the upper realm, surrounded by motionless constellations. Here, there was no wind, no passage of time, and no mortal breath. There was only the heavy, suffocating weight of absolute divine order.
At the center of the Obelisk sat the Six Sovereigns.
Their thrones were carved from high-tier cosmic crystal, arranged in an elevated semicircle overlooking a circular dais of pure light. They did not slouch; they did not fidget. Each Sovereign radiated an aura so immense that a lower mortal looking upon them would have been instantly reduced to cinder and dust.
A lesser celestial herald, clad in silver robes with six wings folded tight against its back, knelt prostrate on the cold light of the dais. Its head was pressed flat against the floor, trembling not from fear of an enemy, but from the sheer, crushing pressure of the presence above.
"Speak," commanded the Sovereign of Order, sitting upon the central First Seat. His voice did not reverberate off walls; it reverberated directly through the fabric of space itself. "The signal from the lower subterranean Sanctum has ceased. Report the state of the Archon array."
"O Supreme Ones," the herald quivered, its voice echoing thin and fragile. "The Archon Overseers in the subterranean cradle of the Uncharted Lands... have been terminated. The containment array has collapsed entirely."
The Sovereign of Light & Flame, sitting upon the Second Seat wrapped in a mantle of blinding, white-hot plasma, let out a soft, dismissive exhale. A stray ember fell from his sleeve, incinerating a patch of space before winking out.
"Incompetent constructs," the Sovereign of Light sneered, his voice smooth, arrogant, and devoid of warmth. "The Archon Overseers were built to herd mortals and suppress weak mana cores. That they failed to contain a localized anomaly is a testament to the flaws of lower-realm engineering, nothing more."
"It is not merely a failure of machinery, Brother," spoke the Sovereign of Spatial Threads from the Third Seat, her fingers casually weaving thin, silver strands of reality in the air before her. She did not look at the herald; her glowing, pupilless eyes stared through the floor, viewing the world below. "The Primordial Lotus... the physical anchor of the ancient primeval deity... has been removed from its altar. The cradle is empty."
A subtle shift occurred in the chamber. The temperature did not drop, but the ambient pressure tightened by a fraction—enough to make the kneeling herald choke on his own breath.
"Stolen?" asked the Sovereign of the Crucible, a colossal figure encrusted in golden runes from the Fourth Seat. "A lower entity dared lay hands upon a sealed divine vessel?"
"Not merely a lower entity," the Spatial Sovereign corrected, her tone laced with cool, refined disdain. "The spatial logs indicate a transcendent anomaly. A mortal soul who broke through his natural ceiling, bypassed the logic matrix of four Overseers using needle-thin threads of authority, and pocketed the Lotus."
Silence reigned in the Obelisk.
There was no panic. There were no hushed, frantic whispers or alarmed glances exchanged among the thrones. To the Six Sovereigns, the concept of a mortal ascending to godhood was not a terrifying mystery—it was a vulgarity. An illegitimate thief stealing a crown he was never born to wear.
"A mortal claiming transcendence," the Sovereign of Verdicts murmured from the Fifth Seat, resting his chin on his gauntleted hand. He looked down at the void below as if inspecting a speck of dirt on an otherwise pristine carpet. "How thoroughly arrogant. They stumble upon a grain of cosmic authority and mistake themselves for architects of the cosmos."
"He believes he has achieved freedom," the Sovereign of Order stated calmly, his words carrying the weight of an unyielding mountain. "He believes that by defeating mere metal wardens, he has earned the right to walk the earth as a god. He does not realize that authority without celestial sanction is merely blasphemy."
The Sovereign of Light gestured lazily with one finger. "Shall I burn the Uncharted Lands? I can collapse the continent into molten glass within three cycles. It will eradicate the thief, the Lotus, and the surrounding vermin in a single sweep."
"No," the Sovereign of Order replied smoothly. "The Primordial Lotus is property of the Upper Realm’s balance. It must be recovered intact, and the usurper’s soul must be unspooled, thread by thread, to serve as a reminder to the lower realms of their proper place."
The Sovereign of Order raised his right hand. The golden ring on his forefinger glowed with a harsh, uncompromising light.
At the edge of the semicircle, shrouded in deep, absolute darkness, sat the Eighth Seat. Bound to the high crystal throne were thick, heavy chains of celestial iron, pulsing with suppressive runes. Sitting motionless within those chains was a solitary figure—the Celestial Executioner.
Clang.
With a single gesture from the Sovereign of Order, one of the massive celestial chains binding the Eighth Seat shattered into harmless white dust.
The figure in the shadows slowly lifted its head. Two thin, vertical slits of crimson light flared to life beneath a plain, featureless porcelain mask.
"Go to the border of the Uncharted Lands," the Sovereign of Order commanded, tossing a pale, glowing parchment into the air. The parchment dissolved into a golden seal that floated directly into the Executioner’s chest. "Enact the First Sanction. Reclaim the Lotus. Strip the usurper of his stolen authority, break his limbs, and drag his soul back to the Obelisk for judgment."
The Celestial Executioner stood up. The remaining chains dragging along the floor made a slow, rhythmic, terrifying sound against the white stone. He did not speak. He did not bow.
In a single, silent instant, space folded around the Executioner, and he vanished from the Obelisk, leaving behind only the lingering scent of ozone and absolute, unyielding death.
The Sovereign of Light leaned back on his throne, closing his eyes in disinterest. "A minor chore settled. Let us return to the alignment of the outer stars."
"Indeed," the Sovereign of Order agreed softly. "The lower world shall remain orderly."
Thousands of miles below, at the sunny, peaceful edge of the cliffside alcove, Vince let out a massive yawn as he stretched his arms toward the sky.
Beside him, the invisible Princess Barnaby was floating upside down, holding a spectral piece of straw in her mouth and kicking her legs in the air, complaining loudly into his ear about how the morning breeze was blowing her hair the wrong way.
Across the tiny campfire, Vetra was carefully handing Vince a cup of warm water using the absolute tip of her claws, keeping her body a full six feet back while Elena frantically drew a protective circle around her own sleeping bag.
Vince took a sip of the water, completely unaware that an absolute force of cosmic execution was currently descending from the heavens to erase him from existence.
