My Taming System Makes Me Overpowered
Chapter 291: Strategic Alignments
Leaving the ethereal quiet of the Starlight Observatory behind, Vince descended toward the western residential wing of the citadel. The scent of rich, dark coffee beans and warm, baked pastries drifted through the air, mingling with the faint mineral tang of steam rising from the heated marble. Unlike the wild, overgrown nature of the Garden Realm or the cosmic scale of the viewing domes, the Western Terrace was designed for casual luxury. Built over a natural steam vent that warmed the white-marble floorboards from below, the terrace overlooked a quiet, reflective sea of liquid twilight. Soft plumes of vapor curled along the edges of the balustrade. Plush leather loungers, polished mahogany tables, and silk parasols were arranged neatly along the rail, offering an ideal spot for a late-morning leisure break.
Vetra sat sprawled across a wide, charcoal-leather lounge chair, her long, muscular legs stretched out over the cushions. She wore a loose, open-fronted silk tunic that gaped enough to show the toned midriff and the golden dragon scales along her ribs. A heavy silver mug of dark, bitter roasted spirit-beans rested in her hand. Her crimson-gold eyes were fixed lazily on the horizon, though the slow flick of her heavy dragon tail against the leather betrayed a restlessness that the peaceful morning could not fully soothe.
Sitting across from her at a low mahogany table was Elena. The former chief administrator was impeccably groomed, her silver hair pinned up into a casual, elegant twist secured by a single obsidian hairpin. She wore a high-collared, sleeveless dress of slate-gray silk that draped comfortably over her soft curves, the fabric whispering against her skin with every small movement. A neat stack of leather-bound journals lay on the table beside her, though instead of writing complex spatial equations she was casually sketching a layout for a new orchard extension, the tip of her pen moving with unhurried precision.
"You’re slacking, Administrator," Vetra purred huskily, taking a slow sip from her mug and flashing a sharp-fanged grin. Steam curled from the dark liquid and rose past her lips. "A hundred years ago, you’d have logged three thousand logistical reports by now."
Elena didn’t even look up from her sketch, a soft, amused smile playing on her lips. "A hundred years ago, Vetra, we were funding a galaxy-spanning war against ancient parasites. Currently, our only ongoing campaign is deciding which tropical fruit to cultivate next week. I find the current workload far more intellectually stimulating."
"Can’t argue with that," Vetra chuckled, leaning back into the leather cushions with a deep, satisfied purr that vibrated in her throat. The motion made the open front of her tunic shift, revealing more of the soft undersides of her breasts. "Though I admit, my claws are getting a little restless. I might need Vince to take me down to the training grounds later just so I can remember what it feels like to stretch my wings."
"If you are looking for exercise, enforcer," a deep, velvet baritone cut through the quiet air, "I can think of several far more productive uses for your energy."
Both women turned instantly.
Vince stepped out onto the marble terrace, his broad, powerful frame cutting an imposing figure against the morning light. He wore a heavy, dark velvet robe left comfortably unfastened at his chest, exposing the broad planes of his shoulders and the steady, dark-purple pulse of his origin matrix. The warm steam rising from the floorboards curled around his bare feet and the hem of the robe. His dark amethyst eyes held a calm, heavy intensity as he approached them, long strides effortless and smooth.
Vetra’s smirk widened into a predatory, hungry line. Her dragon tail flicked with immediate delight against the leather lounge, then stilled as she focused entirely on him. "Now that sounds like an official command, Vince."
Elena immediately rose from her chair. Her golden eyes lit with uninhibited warmth and devotion as she stepped forward to meet him, the slate-gray silk of her dress shifting softly over her body. "Good morning, my Vince. Did the observatory meet your expectations?"
"Solaria and Lyrielle are currently resting," Vince replied smoothly. He reached out with a broad hand and cupped the back of Elena’s neck, thumb stroking the soft skin just behind her ear before pulling her into a slow, possessive kiss. The contact was unhurried yet absolute—his mouth claiming hers until she melted against him, breathless and blushing within seconds. When he finally released her, a faint flush colored her cheeks and the upper curves of her breasts where the high collar of her dress framed them. "And they will likely remain asleep until evening."
Vetra swung her legs off the lounger, sliding off the cushions and prowling over to Vince’s right side with fluid, dangerous grace. She pressed her supple, warm body flush against his hip, the open front of her silk tunic allowing the soft heat of her breasts and the hard points of her nipples to drag lightly across his bare chest. Her hands slid up the broad planes of his torso as her crimson-gold eyes looked up at him with unmasked hunger. The faint scent of spirit-beans and warm dragon-kin skin rose between them.
"Which means," Vetra whispered against his collarbone, her hot breath sending a slow shiver across his skin, "that you have the entire afternoon completely free for us."
Vince’s hand shifted down to grip Vetra’s hip with unyielding force, fingers sinking into the firm muscle beneath the thin silk. He pulled her tighter against him until the soft give of her body molded to his side, while his dark gaze remained locked on Elena’s flushed face. The absolute authority humming beneath his skin rippled outward in a warm, magnetic wave. It wrapped the entire terrace in a blanket of heavy, delicious anticipation—thick enough that Elena’s breath caught and Vetra’s tail coiled once, tightly, around his calf.
"Indeed," Vince spoke, a dark, commanding smirk touching his lips. His free hand rose to stroke the elegant line of Elena’s throat, feeling the rapid pulse beneath his fingers. "Let us see if your endurance matches your enthusiasm today, Vetra."
Elena let out a soft, breathless laugh, her hands resting flat over Vince’s chest as she yielded completely to his presence. The warmth of the steam-vented marble rose around their bare feet, and the reflective sea of liquid twilight beyond the balustrade shimmered in quiet sympathy with the power rolling off him. "I will prepare the private suites on the lower terrace immediately, Vince."
There were no threats left in the sky, no empires left to crush, and no boundaries left to break. In the quiet warmth of the Western Terrace, surrounded by the absolute devotion of his enforcer and his administrator, Vince prepared to indulge in another afternoon of unbroken, glorious peace—while the soft steam, the scent of coffee, and the heavy promise of his touch hung thick in the air between them.
