Chapter 1145: Vlad Dracul Tepes’s Dilemma.
As soon as the planning began, the Empire started working on genetics from the 30th millennium onward. In less than 20 thousand years, everyone began to develop even further.
An ordinary citizen of the Empire could easily lift a building in the old world, becoming truly superior beings, with lifespans increasing to 300 years. Current expectations are to increase to 400 years by the end of the 100,000th year of the imperial calendar.
But that was not the Empire’s only focus. Victor wanted to make his galaxy as impenetrable as possible, wanting the entire galaxy to be a deadly trap for anyone who did not know how to navigate these areas and to have very tragic deaths. Therefore, two superprojects began in the 70th millennium and onward: one project was placed in the hands of the dragon goddesses, who were very good at shaping reality.
With Victor sustaining the galaxy itself and keeping existence functioning, they began to ’modify’ everything, from asteroids, black holes, stars, and cosmic clouds to entire moons. Using the influence of Victor’s and Hela’s enthusiastic friends, the Eldritch creatures that Hela summoned in the war against Asgard were spread across strategic points throughout the galaxy.
With a ’small’ boost from Victor and Azathoth, these creatures became even more deadly, nothing too exaggerated like their daughter, as they did not want to draw more attention to themselves than they already did. The Empire already had its own quota of Eldritchbeings, most of them being Victor’s subordinates.
But in the grand scheme of things, the number was not as massive as expected, considering that each of these beings could easily patrol a solar system. Upon completing this project, nothing in Victor’s galaxy was safe for enemies: in every asteroid, in every star, in every black hole, there was an Eldritch creature lurking.
He made all of space as hostile as possible, taking care that the Eldritch creatures themselves did not distort everything. Fortunately, since Victor and Azathoth were like creator gods to them, these creatures obeyed easily. Thankfully, they did not need to worry about food since Victor improved their existence so that they could exist without eating now, but could still choose to eat, having full permission to annihilate enemies, even making them their personal snacks.
Eventually, 100,000 years passed, a milestone for the Empire. An event happened on that day as Victor and Violet’s avatars descended, and they held a parade with the Empire’s forces throughout the Imperial capital. This parade was seen on every planet connected to the Empire.
...
Nightingale, Royal Capital.
"Heh, and to think that this was my planned successor, huh. How he surpassed me." In the privacy of his castle in Nightingale, Vlad Dracul Tepes watched the parade with a neutral and amused look.
Only in his personal quarters could he be true to himself, as outside this place, everything was monitored. Not that Victor could not see this place if he wanted to, his gaze unobstructed by anything, but he deliberately did not look this way.
Both out of respect for Ophis and out of respect for Vlad himself, Victor left Vlad alone.
"And to think that only six months have passed." Vlad was one of the few who remained outside the 200-thousand-year development project. He had the opportunity to go, but Vlad decided not to. After all, when the 200 thousand years passed, he would have several things to explore again, as everything would be new to him, and honestly, he could barely wait for that day to come.
The greatest disease of a long-lived being was boredom, and Vlad understood this very well.
"He went much further than you did, my King."
Vlad looked at Alexios Alioth, his great friend, who was now rejuvenated and at his peak. Due to his connection as one of the Emperor’s father-in-law, he practically had VIP access to the Empire’s resources, so it was easy for him to evolve into a primordial human and regain his youth. Even his power became stronger.
Vlad pursed his lips at this subordinate of his who seemed bathed in the air of life. He really did not know what to say about his servant’s shameless attitude of taking advantage of the rival Empire’s benefits while calling him my king.
"You really have changed, Alexios," Vlad said in a neutral tone, but as a good servant, Alexios could sense the disdain in his tone.
"My King, everything is for my daughter," Alexios spoke with a forced English accent. "And you cannot say that you did not take advantage of it as well."
Alexios looked at Vlad’s body, which was visibly stronger than before. He himself had ’evolved’ to the ancestral state of his race. Although he was already only one step away from this evolution before, thanks to the Empire, he reached it much more easily. He was now like the ancient vampires who first came from another planet to evolve beyond this state. It depended entirely on Vlad, and thanks to the Empire’s technology, Vlad could now eat food normally. After all, a racial trait that was tied to only one food was a great weakness. Something the Empire considered very undignified, and therefore, they fixed most of the basic weaknesses of a Noble Vampire.
"Everything is for my daughter, Ophis," Vlad replied in the same forced British English tone Alexios had used earlier when questioned.
Alexios rolled his eyes, then returned to looking at the parade. With only a superficial glance at the beings near the Emperor, he knew that if Victor sent only them, they could easily destroy Nightingale. Vlad was strong and had become even stronger thanks to the upgrades he underwent, but in the end, it did not matter when the power gap was simply too great.
Especially when most of his imperial guard entourage could easily invade a high-level pantheon and destroy them.
"The strength my son-in-law has is impressive."
’Impressive is an understatement. If I had only his imperial guards, I could conquer the world 777 times, and not once would I lose.’ Vlad thought, but did not say it. He needed to maintain his dignity as a king, but he could not deny that he felt a little envious of Victor’s military might. It was simply too incredible. Everyone in the imperial guard protecting the royal family could fight against a first-generation primordial god like Nyx in the past. Which is ridiculous if you think about it.
’The enemy must truly be very strong if he needs this kind of strength in the future.’ Vlad thought. He did not want to admit it, but he was getting excited. It had been a long time since he had encountered such a great unknown, and even stronger enemies, and if he fought under the Empire’s banner, he could fight without worrying and simply have fun.
The old monster wanted to have fun too. What was the point of ruling if the owner of the entire planet, and the world’s tree of the planet, was another empire? He had simply not been stripped of his power out of respect.
"The objective, as expected, is to show strength?" Alexios spoke.
"Yes. Some beings have been acting very arrogantly lately, and this is a way to put them in their place." Vlad knew very well that the lives of these unstable seeds were already approaching their end. When the war happened, they would be the first to be sacrificed. How did he know this? It was simple; if he were in Victor’s place, he would do the same, as no ruler liked rebellious thoughts among their people.
Vlad could have done the same in the past, but Victor’s connections were simply too troublesome, and in a way, he was glad he had not done so. Despite everything that had happened between him and Victor, their relationship was cordial nowadays, even respectful. The bridge between them remained Ophis.
’I think it is already time for Ophis to marry him.’ Vlad thought. This thought initially caused great and deep displeasure in his heart. He felt as if his carefully tended cabbage had been stolen in the middle of the night by some pig.
But after thinking objectively with his kingly side, he realized that there were countless advantages, so great that they outweighed the rebellion in his heart. Not to mention that this was a reality that Ophis herself also wanted.
And Vlad could not go against Ophis’s wishes, even if he wanted to. If he forced the situation too much, she would beat him up. The sad fact was that she really could do that now.
’She grew up and became very filial to her old man... I guess that is the fate of all daughters. Except for that madman’s daughters. Why are his daughters so obsessed with him? What envy, I need to know his ways.’ Vlad thought enviously.
"Time really makes people forget," Alexios spoke while shaking his head in disdain. These people were simply crazy if they saw this parade and thought they could deal with the Empire.
"It is inevitable. There will always be ambitious beings. People who grew up in the Imperial era are loyal to the Empire, but there will always be those who think, if I were in his place, couldn’t I do better? I want this power too, I am envious, I want more, etc." Vlad spoke. As a ruler, he knew this very well.
This was one of the reasons true peace could not exist: sentient beings themselves. Even if there were only two people on the planet, there would inevitably be conflicts between them.
"An idiotic thought considering their reality," Alexios spoke.
"Well, I never said it wasn’t. Fools prosper if left unchecked." Vlad looked at Ophis, who was watching the parade as one of the legion commanders in her divine armor with pride. ’She has become an extraordinarily powerful goddess.’
Ophis already had an absurd amount of potential considering her lineage, and thanks to Victor, she became even stronger, and her potential rose even further.
"Fortunately, Victor knows this, and keeps the reins tight."
Alexios nodded. Victor’s presence in that parade was the perfect proof of his previous considerations. ’I said he would become a great king.’ He laughed internally.
For Alexios, this entire situation was a great victory. His bloodline was safe, and his daughter had become strong, much stronger than him, and his granddaughter was following her mother’s path. He felt that several responsibilities he had before no longer existed. He was feeling very free at that moment.
"I hope the others watching this parade think the same."
"I doubt it. After all, I do not doubt the delusions of fools." Vlad spoke with absolute certainty. Even though it was a small number of fools, they still existed. It would be strange if they did not.
