Chapter 42: Knowing and Seeing

Where should he run to?

Gu Yuan asked himself that question as he flew through the sky.

He didn’t know what was happening outside the secret realm.

Should he really go there?

But staying here wasn’t exactly safe either. The demonic beasts in the Demonic Beast Garden had already gone berserk, and he could already feel several of them locking onto his aura and chasing after him.

So, where should he run?

Actually, what about the twins?

Had they really lost?

Yet, despite that conclusion, his gaze kept drifting toward the teleportation array.

After several minutes of flying like this without knowing what to make of the situation, Gu Yuan finally made up his mind.

He would deal with the group chasing him first.

Everything else could wait.

Gu Yuan descended to the ground and quickly killed the demonic beasts in the area. They were only Second Grade, so dealing with them wasn’t difficult.

Once he was done, he restrained his aura with the Thousand Forms Ring and carefully monitored his surroundings.

It didn’t take long.

A group of five cultivators stopped not far away from him.

Not because they had noticed him.

Rather, the last traces of his aura had simply disappeared at this location.

Gu Yuan quietly observed them.

Their numbers had already been reduced, and aside from the man in the lead, all of them had suffered injuries.

It seemed manageable.

He had only barely reached the level where he could use the technique.

Even so, it was still his strongest attack.

So this time, he decided to go all out.

Thanks to the Thousand Forms Ring, Gu Yuan quietly gathered his strength without revealing his presence.

Yu Cheng didn’t notice anything until a gigantic palm suddenly appeared above him.

The palm was enormous... large enough that it seemed capable of covering a small hill, its shadow alone enough to blot out a portion of the sky.

Yu Cheng’s expression changed drastically.

He immediately took out his defensive treasure and unleashed every trump card he possessed, desperately trying to withstand the incoming attack.

It made no difference.

Everything crumbled beneath the palm.

In the end, he barely managed to preserve his life, while the disciples beside him were reduced to corpses.

He didn’t even have time to feel grateful for surviving when he suddenly realized that Gu Yuan had already appeared in front of him.

Although exhausted after forcing out the Heaven Shattering Palm, Gu Yuan still had enough strength to finish the job. He raised the saber in his hand and calmly swung it downward.

Breaking the Mountain.

The saber descended, and Yu Cheng was cut cleanly in two.

Gu Yuan took a deep breath before turning toward the battlefield. Of the storage treasures that had survived the Heaven-Shattering Palm, only two remained, and he collected both before making his way toward the teleportation array.

He was still dissatisfied with the twins. He didn’t love them, and whatever relationship they had between them was still something Gu Yuan himself hadn’t fully figured out.

Even so, they were his Dao Companions.

He wanted to know whether they were safe.

With that thought, Gu Yuan stepped into the teleportation array and left the secret realm.

However, the moment he appeared outside, the scene in the sky made him stop in his tracks.

For a moment, Gu Yuan was stunned.

He had expected the worst, and a battle really had taken place, but the result was completely different from what he had imagined.

In the sky, a group of elders stood around the twins, but they were clearly standing on their side. The only enemy left was the sect master, Han Wuchang, and even he had been completely restrained by Ji Yue’s ice.

"Han Wuchang, do you know why we sisters never accepted you as our master?"

Ji Yue looked down at him coldly.

"Was it because you were scheming to refine us into a pill? No. That part alone was never enough to concern us. You would never have been able to accomplish it anyway."

"But you were never worthy."

Her voice remained calm, yet every word carried weight.

"I waited until this moment not because I was gathering the support of those around us. I waited until I was certain that even if the entire Black Desolation Sect stood against us, we sisters alone would still be able to face it head-on."

"But it seems I overestimated you."

"There was no need to wait this long after all."

Those arrogant words would have sounded more natural coming from Ji Yan, but Ji Yue said them without the slightest hesitation.

"Now, it’s time to end your pathetic life."

With that, Ji Yue casually waved her hand... and the ice surrounding Han Wuchang shattered completely, taking his life with it.

Just like that, the Sect Master of the Black Desolation Sect, the man who had never actually been the twins’ master in the first place, died.

Gu Yuan stood there silently, feeling as though his brain had stopped functioning for a moment.

He had already thought that the twins would probably win. His earlier concern had not been based on reason, after all. It had simply been the natural worry of someone who had suddenly found himself connected to two troublesome women who seemed capable of getting themselves involved in anything.

But knowing something and seeing it with his own eyes were two completely different things.

That was why, when Ji Yue seemed to notice him and began descending in his direction...

Gu Yuan immediately turned around and fled back into the Demonic Beast Garden.
