My Weekly Refreshing Mentor Spirit
Chapter 781 - 447: The Seventh Beast of Human Evils—Lilith of Desire
Once, Mimic Venerable King asked Xue Dili, if at some point you need to kill someone in order to save more people, would you do it?
This isn’t really a cleverly thought question, it’s even quite a stupid one.
The first time Mimic Venerable King asked, it was about under what circumstances you would kill someone?
"I suppose I’d kill someone who really crosses the line." Xue Dili said.
"And what is your line?"
Xue Dili scratched his head. It’s actually quite abstract, but in the end, he gave a vague answer: "I don’t consider myself a good person. I kill, set fires, modify bodies, play with souls, I use any means necessary to achieve my goals. In necessary situations, I might even resort to actions that could destroy the world..."
"But if faced with someone who makes even me physically sick, or someone whose survival would lead to the world’s decay, perhaps they are my line."
Although he didn’t give any decisive answer, he basically answered Mimic Venerable King’s question, albeit with an abstract answer.
Yet that still didn’t answer another question.
If at certain times only a few innocent people needed to be sacrificed to save more, or even the entire world, would you kill that innocent person?
Xue Dili scratched his head again. He wouldn’t choose those options, the question seemed outright dumb.
He simply wouldn’t let such a situation occur. If it required sacrificing innocents to achieve the goal, Xue Dili wouldn’t let it happen.
If such a situation arose, it would only prove his power was insufficient, due to his own failings, leading to no one winning.
"This trolley problem is honestly idiotic, but should I face such a situation where my power is lacking and innocent sacrifices are necessary, I’ll be the one to offer myself." Xue Dili said, "I have no qualifications to let others die, but I’m qualified to let myself die."
"That’s completely cheating," Mimic Venerable King could only ridicule, "Let me change the premise: what if you aren’t qualified? What if you don’t even have the qualification to die?"
"I think it’s you who’s cheating now. If sacrificing innocents is truly necessary... I’m an Apostle, why would I consider these dumb questions? I’d use immortal power to link my brain, perform a Rebirth of the Filth, and pull out a red sphere..."
"And say directly ’Cosmic Superman, open your eyes, I bring a new life!’ Even if it’s an aunt whose soul has reached the end, I could use immortality to convert them into eternally indestructible lives like a Witch Demon, wouldn’t that be solved?" Xue Dili expressed his stance.
"Then why don’t you directly use immortal power to save your relatives?" Mimic Venerable King retorted.
"Because I don’t know what the side effects might be..." Xue Dili replied.
...
Although the previous conversation ended in disagreement, Xue Dili felt that Mimic Venerable King just asked quirky questions.
Mimic Venerable King felt that Xue Dili was always avoiding the difficult point.
But today, the same trolley problem seemed to have appeared right in front of them.
"With only four sacrifices needed, the Seventh Apostle could appear, leading to the rescue of untold numbers of people under the Seventh Apostle’s control in Subspace. Isn’t this a good ending?" Mimic Venerable King’s voice came, with a hint of incitement.
"Stop talking. If it weren’t for your lack of capability, your insufficient calculation, I wouldn’t be facing this dumb choice," Xue Dili grumbled directly.
After all, it’s just a fragment. If Mimic Venerable King is compared to Sun Wukong, what Xue Dili has is merely a transformed hair from his fur.
If faced with anything below Apostle Level, or other Tier Five entities, this hair could perform remarkably. But against beings like the Green Bull Demon, Lion and Camel Ridge, or Yellow Eyebrows, it would only serve as support.
Right now, Xue Dili felt like a pig carrying a single monkey hair trying to steal the gold and silver horns utensil.
Very difficult...
Besides, the path of sacrificing the few to save the many won’t work. It’s not a matter of numbers; it’s a crisis of thinking. When considering sacrificing the few for the many, you fall into a Nihilism trap, turning your humanity completely alien.
This actually becomes a breeding ground for the Void, and the Void monster having just fed isn’t long from beginning its rampage again.
When you want to sacrifice the few for the many, which of the few could be someone capable of creating technology to save billions? Their value would outweigh many; how would you choose?
But if the minority were ordinary, and the majority were gang members and prostitutes controlled by the gangs, then what about their negative value? How would you choose then?
So upon considering the choice, you’ve already lost, becoming an entirely corrupted entity by the Nihilism.
This stuff, in his place, deserves to be stripped naked and forced to run at the Masked Ball.
Perhaps most people at the Masked Ball have been thus affected by the Void.
Moreover, Xue Dili doesn’t think there’s a need to choose.
"She’s not a prostitute, she told me, despite living at the bottom, life being extremely difficult, she isn’t a prostitute." Xue Dili said, "Instead, she has a very Ranger-like Half-Elf character; if not for her awkward identity issue, she could blend in well anywhere."
