My Wife Might Be a Saintess
Chapter 553 - 552: Fortunately, This Stele Isn’t Big
Chapter 553: Chapter 552: Fortunately, This Stele Isn’t Big
On the way to Gu Jiansheng’s house, Jiang Zuo also concealed his presence.
His emotional state was unchangeable, but that didn’t mean he couldn’t hide.
Disturbing ordinary people was too much trouble, and it would cause too great a commotion.
It would disrupt the ordinary life he shared with Su Qi.
Before long, Jiang Zuo appeared at Gu Jiansheng’s doorstep.
He knocked gently on Gu Jiansheng’s door.
The door opened to reveal a weary-looking Gu Jiansheng.
Jiang Zuo was a little confused. Normally, when Gu Jiansheng’s fox went missing, he would just seem exasperated. It was just a game of hide-and-seek, after all—nothing to worry about.
Today, however, seemed different.
’But it’s none of my business, so of course I’m not going to ask.’
But when Gu Jiansheng looked up and saw Jiang Zuo, he froze.
"You... you..." For a moment, Gu Jiansheng was speechless.
Indeed, the person before him was exuding an immense pressure.
If he hadn’t known it was Po Xiao, he would have wondered if he had encountered some powerful senior.
"You... what’s with you...?"
Before Gu Jiansheng could finish, Jiang Zuo said, "Tell me about your fox."
’There’s nothing about me worth studying.’
Gu Jiansheng composed himself and deliberately avoided looking at Po Xiao.
He found that helped a lot. As for why Po Xiao had suddenly become like this, he didn’t know, but he wasn’t surprised.
Why?
Because chaos erupted wherever Po Xiao went, and disaster struck every place he visited. Without some real power, could he have possibly caused so many incidents?
So, he simply accepted this side of Po Xiao.
"Here’s the situation. This time, Xiaoli threw a tantrum and ran away from home, so I’m not sure where she is," Gu Jiansheng said.
Jiang Zuo walked into the courtyard and saw an elegant and dignified woman sitting there.
Jiang Zuo was a bit surprised when he saw her. ’To think Gu Jiansheng is keeping such a dangerous creature in his house.’
’Isn’t he afraid of being eaten?’
This person was none other than An Xi.
As Jiang Zuo entered, An Xi naturally looked over as well.
But the moment she did, her expression changed completely.
The terrifying aura was so oppressive that it made her feel afraid, panicked, and even scared to raise her head.
’Who is this person?’
’No, I’ve seen this person once before, but I didn’t get this feeling last time.’
An Xi was still worried. If this person was here to kill her, she didn’t think she would even dare to resist.
She immediately shot to her feet, all her previous composure and elegance gone.
’This is the person Gu Jiansheng hired to find a fox?’
’A person like *him* came all this way to find a fox?’
’Is he insane?’
’For people of his caliber, wouldn’t this be utterly humiliating?’
Jiang Zuo merely glanced at An Xi, then paid her no further mind.
’We’re strangers, after all.’
Jiang Zuo scanned his surroundings. As a Tier Three, his Perception was already quite formidable.
Ordinary Concealment techniques couldn’t possibly escape his notice.
’But this fox is impressive. Its level of Concealment is truly high.’
Then, Jiang Zuo held out his hand to Gu Jiansheng. "The Moon Tear Beads."
Gu Jiansheng knew this meant Po Xiao was confident he’d found it.
Then again, the man was *always* confident.
He was the most confident person Gu Jiansheng had ever met.
Gu Jiansheng walked over and placed two Moon Tear Beads in Jiang Zuo’s hand.
Jiang Zuo glanced at them. ’Still low-quality.’
After putting away the Moon Tear Beads, Jiang Zuo took out the Shield.
Seeing the Shield, the color drained from Gu Jiansheng’s face. He immediately said, "Fellow Daoist Po Xiao, could we perhaps use something else?"
Jiang Zuo glanced at him, then back at the Shield. ’The fox should be used to being hit with this Shield by now.’
’Using a new one would just feel awkward for everyone involved.’
’But switching isn’t a big deal, I suppose.’
Then, Jiang Zuo took out the Battle Spirit Stele. ’This Battle Spirit Stele is actually pretty handy.’
The moment the Battle Spirit Stele appeared, An Xi froze.
Her mind was flooded with so much information that it almost shut down.
She quietly lowered her head, terrified that someone might see the look on her face.
Jiang Zuo placed a coin against the Battle Spirit Stele, tossed it into the sky, and then turned to leave.
There was no need to stay any longer.
Gu Jiansheng naturally didn’t say anything. Fortunately, the stele was rather small, and he had given Xiaoli some defensive Magical Treasures.
’It should be fine.’
Just as Gu Jiansheng had that thought, the Battle Spirit Stele abruptly enlarged, its suppressive power on full display.
Gu Jiansheng froze on the spot.
Even An Xi was trembling from head to toe.
’There’s no mistaking it. This was the same feeling from when the stele was forged by the Human Race all those years ago.’
’This really is the stele of the Human Race.’
BOOM! The Battle Spirit Stele crashed down.
Afterward, the Battle Spirit Stele shrank and flew back to Jiang Zuo’s side.
Jiang Zuo, who was already outside by now, didn’t hear the fox’s pained shriek.
’Hmm, it must have fainted instantly. It shouldn’t be dead.’
Gu Jiansheng’s shout, on the other hand, was quite loud.
Jiang Zuo didn’t need to guess to know that Gu Jiansheng probably had the urge to chase after him and kill him.
’Too bad for him. Even if he did, he wouldn’t be able to find me.’
————
Gu Jiansheng was consoling Xiaoli. Fortunately, her injuries weren’t too serious; otherwise, he really would have fought Po Xiao to the death.
’But Po Xiao was so strange today. If he’s this bizarre next time, I absolutely can’t let him be the one to take action.’
’And this was even worse than him using that Shield.’
’Po Xiao definitely did that on purpose.’
Just then, An Xi walked over to Gu Jiansheng’s side.
Gu Jiansheng sighed. "Senior, Xiaoli is still young. Can’t you just let it go?"
An Xi, having now recovered her composure, looked at Gu Jiansheng and said, "I want all the information you have on that man."
Gu Jiansheng’s brow furrowed. His expression immediately hardened as he looked at An Xi with a solemn face.
Finally, he shook his head. "I’m sorry, but I can’t help you with that."
An Xi frowned, and a powerful aura immediately began to radiate from her.
It had to be known that even in her weakened state, she was on a completely different level than Gu Jiansheng. Never mind one of him—an entire city full of Gu Jianshengs would not be her match.
For someone like him to defy her was to court death.
"Aren’t you afraid of death?" As soon as the words left her lips, An Xi felt she had asked the wrong question.
So she asked another: "Aren’t you afraid I’ll kill that fox?"
Gu Jiansheng stroked the unconscious Xiaoli and finally nodded. "I am."
"Then how dare you refuse me?" An Xi said.
Gu Jiansheng looked at An Xi. "Senior, you’re very concerned about that stele, aren’t you? It even has a significant connection to your era, I presume?"
"You don’t need to deny it; I saw your reaction just now."
"That means Po Xiao might be playing a unique role in all this."
"A role that you find very concerning, right?"
An Xi frowned. "And so what if I am?"
"If that’s the case, then this is a serious matter. Based on what you’ve told me before, Senior, almost everything concerns the entire Human Race."
"If I were to sell out Po Xiao, it’s highly likely I would become a traitor to the Human Race." Gu Jiansheng looked at An Xi and said, "And you of all people should know the fate of those who betray the Human Race, shouldn’t you, Senior?"
"For me, it would just mean dying a few days later, that’s all."
"And it would probably lead to an even more miserable death for Xiaoli."
"And what if I say nothing? What if I even let you both leave afterward? You have to understand, doing as I say gives you a sliver of hope. Refusing means you die right now," said An Xi.
